I wanted to thank Dan The Tire Man, for helping me on a new set of Falcon Tires for my truck. I work construction, and I am always picking up nails. My go-to fix has been using a string plug and a small air compressor that I keep under the seat. Dan told me that I needed a thicker ply tire or one with a Kevlar lining. I have used Dan twice now, once for each of my cars. The reason I have gone to Dan is simple, his prices were the lowest I have found for tire install. When buying tires don't get tricked on price, you have to add the total price of the tires, plus install (which includes a bunch of various fees) when comparing prices. You can order your tires through The Tire Rack and he'll install them, or you can call him directly and see if he can beat their price. But for install he is the lowest price I have seen. He's a one man show. He is a nice guy and does a great job, gets the tires on and balanced in a reasonable amount of time. It's a very small place. Basically two parking spots and a small storefront full of tires. Call for an appointment and he'll give you directions so you wont have trouble finding him. When looking for someone to balance and put my tires on I basically just need someone who can: 1) Do it properly 2) Do it for a great price (or the best price around) 3) Do it in a reasonable amount of time so I don't have to wait around forever. The bonus is that he is a great guy as well and it always makes me feel good to support a local business owner when it's well deserved. If you agree with my points, then you should check out Dan. One niggle I have to add is both times I have used him he inflated my new tires to 35PSI even though one car suggests 32PSI and my other suggests 30PSI. No big deal as I just adjusted it the next morning once the tires were cold. Driving with 35PSI in my tires suggested for 30PSI made for a pretty harsh ride and that's why I checked the next morning. Not really a big deal, but maybe ask him what pressure he put in your tires before you leave. read more

I can't comment on if you buy tires from him in person, but DON'T try and get financed with him. I was offered four tires that normally cost maybe $300, plus tax and install for $600 as a 90 days same as cash offer. Not including installation. If I didn't pay it off before 90 days the cost would be $1,200 plus. For tires that aren't worth a quarter of that. People don't waste your time, save up for 3 months and you can get way better tires cheaper. read more

First off, his name is a sign that he means business and is a cut above a normal human being. That being said, Dan the tire man is just what you need to get tires installed. When I got my tires through tirerack.com there were a bunch of installation options, and after calling and getting quotes dan the tire man was either the lowest or very close to the lowest price. When I got to the shop he explained exactly what the fees were and why they were that way and after it was done my bill ended up being slight less than I expected accounting for tax. Dan has been in the industry for a long time and he knows his $h!t. I will definitely go to him the next time I need tires, which is as good an endorsement as I can give to any place that takes my car in. read more

I actually went and got my tires replaced back in February 2010. Dan was genuinely nice. He quoted me the best pricing and was professional throughout. Last week, one of my tire got a flat and I went ahead and called Dan. Unfortunately, the phone number listed had been disconnected. My husband stopped by the store and said that it had been replaced by a different guy at the store. Dan's website listed that he is currently in Julian, CA. So I guess he is no longer has his store in PB.. So sad :'( read more

I was very happy with Dan's service and knowledge of the tires he carried. HOWEVER, I ran over a large piece of metal within the first week of getting my new set of tires. Luckily, the tire manufacturer covered the tire for accidental road damage for a limited amount of time. So I took my tire back over to Dan and he installed a brand new replacement tire. The problem started when Dan said I would have to pay for this replacement tire and then wait for the refund to come from the manufacturer. This all sounded fine by me. He said that the manufacturer would send the refund check to his shop and that he would call me when it was ready to be picked up. (THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RED FLAG, but he seemed like a trustworthy guy). Two months later I tried to follow-up with Dan to find my refund, however he has since closed down shop and disconnected all phone numbers. LOOKS like I am getting screwed. Dan, I do not understand why you would screw up your good reputation in Pacific Beach and the San Diego area for $65. Feel free to contact me if you read this and send me my rightful refund. Dan has put tires on two of my cars. I don't think that you will find a more honest or nice guy. He beat Tire Rack's pricing on some Kumho's and got them within a day. His service was great and I couldn't be happier. He also found me four General Tires for less than the cost of two Michelins (OE on the car) from Costco. Read the tire reviews on Tire Rack and before you buy, go talk to Dan. He'll probably will have a better deal. Keep your business local and keep a guy like Dan in business. read more

His price includes everything; tires, mount and balance. I would send any of my family and friends to Dan and have him take care of them. He is honest and to the point. Don't Be FOOLED. Dan comes across as a really nice guy pushing the small biz angle. But its a scam. Forget about a warranty and even if he did warranty a tire he wants the customer to shell out the money for a new one (PLUS INSTALLATION, which you don't get back) and then he will send you your money for the tire in three months when he supposedly gets reimbursed. I own a small business and understand how difficult it can be however I don't expect my customers to sacrifice service or quality to support a small local business. I should have stuck with a real tire shop like Discount or Evans.Then to top it all off, he moves his shop from Encinitas to Pacific beach and now to JULIAN!
