Miss Heather was the teacher at the time and she was knowledgeable about dance, fully engaging with all of the children (every age group) and also put all the parents at ease. It was a small studio but it was packed with goodness. That was 3 years ago. Miss Heather passed on and the business was taken over by her sister. We stayed on w the studio and we quickly found that the new teacher, Haley, was not a trained dance teacher! We had signed a contract so therefore we were obligated to finish out the year (we will not be returning now that the year is finished). What I found in the last year with the studio was very unprofessional leadership, neither of my daughters were challenged or learned any new dance moves, the children were not put in classes based on ability but rather, to make it easier for scheduling on their part. Example, my 16 year old daughter (third year acro) was in a class with 5 year olds that were first year and still learning very basic moves. In my opinion, it became more about fundraisers, after hours wine parties, a place to hold a birthday party and such. It became time for us to move on when I realized that my daughters (who LOVE to dance) would moan and groan about going to class because they felt they weren't being challenged. Because of the lack of learning and being challenged, my daughter (younger daughter) would occasionally daydream and rather than pulling her back into the dance routine, the teacher called her "annoying" in front of the whole class. Sad to say that the quality of this studio has gone down, the teacher is not qualified and the ability to engage the students is also totally absent. I would not recommend this studio. I have read the response and I stand by my review 100%. I highly recommend visiting and seeing for yourself and asking for dance teacher credentials. Also speak to families that have gone before you, as I can guarantee there is not a 97% return rate. I know of more than 5 families not returning next year.

Very unprofessional. Manager/Owner tends to talk about everyone and share private information (who…read morehasn't paid tuition). Plays parents against each other. No mirrors in the studio. Studio is set up like a living space without any private rooms for the dancers. Dance teacher is an art major, did not go to school for dance (she did grow up dancing) but she took over the business her sister started. Three dogs and a rabbit live at the studio in a back room on a full-time basis.

I found a Groupon for Arthur Murray Dance Studio and decided to give it a shot. I thought it was strange that they didn't care to see the Groupon (which cost me actual money) when I showed up for my scheduled appointment. We discussed what I was looking for and got a tour of the facility. All the while my feeling of unease was steadily increasing. This didn't feel like a fun date... if felt like buying a used car. Finally we came to the lesson itself and my opinion was sealed. Despite my practically pleading that we do some actual introductory dance (both I and my girlfriend had some experience), we were forced to go through this canned line-dancing-slash-walking procedure that was so bland and unhelpful as to be insulting. This lasted for what felt like an eternity and finally, once we were both thoroughly mortified, we were allowed to do a bit of dance. A tiny bit. Almost as quickly as we had begun, I was then whisked away to a mandatory sit down session with another of their salesmen, where they tried to pressure me into buying a huge, expensive learning package. If she could read minds, she would know how hilariously wrong she had been to try. This was a few months ago and - needless to say - I never returned for my second lesson. So essentially I paid full price for a single session and what I got was little more than a sales pitch. The silver lining is that my girlfriend and I still make jokes about that awful experience months after the class. A very memorable second date. I've only had the one experience, so maybe this is the school for you... but I've had great luck in this area, so I encourage you to look around.

When I first started, I filled out a form to indicate my expectations. They were and still are. 1) exercise. 2) have fun. 3) learn to dance. Todd has been great to ensure that all 3 are met. At first there was some pressure to learn many dances. This was to introduce me to each. However, I got confused and requested to concentrate on a couple at a time. Todd has been very accommodating and listens to my wishes. I am now testing out of the Waltz Silver 2 level. I've worked on Swing, Fox Trot, and Samba, but still at Bronze 1 level. I also take lessons from the other instructors, and they are all very good. During the week are group lesson that I enjoy. The instructor tried to make sure everyone is engaged and gives individual help when needed. There are also practice party sessions on Fridays, that are fun and a chance to try different dances The lessons are expensive, but I feel that I'm getting good value. We don't bother with the sales conversation. I just pick what I want to do for the year. It's a great place to learn to dance, get a work out , have fun, and meet others that share the love of ballroom dancing.

They didn't even give fathers an alternative place to wait, they were basically like, "Get out". They also made this announcement at the end of the recital. They did not even give fathers a designated place to wait for their children or a meeting place when they were done changing. These policies do not appear to account for single caregivers who are male. Very sexist and thoughtless. I know it is not just me that feels this way about the policy as I have known other father's of students there who said they felt alienated about the policy and also from the school in general as well. Instructor Nicole Rizzo appeared to be cold whenever I encountered her. She never smiled at me other other parents and seems short, condescending and rude. The whole atmosphere around the school seemed cliquey. Also, their business initials are a joke, MDA. Don't they know that when people hear those initials they immediately think Muscular Dystrophy Association?

She withdrew soon after and the company did nothing to help recoup any of the $650 that they took from us. Did not return follow up emails and avoided answering very direct and specific questions. Would not consider this to be a reputable company.
