However, their goal is to make sure the kids have fun as well. I've never heard the dancers in my family say "I have to go to dance." It's always "let's go to dance." The focus is on the experience the kids are having and not on winning trophies for 'Madame.' Don't get we wrong, they sign up for competitions and do very well. But it's about the kids competing for themselves. The parents of dancers all seem to feel the same way and have the same laid back, supportive vibe that lets the kids decide the level of hype they want to work at. Which makes it great fun for us parents. There are no divas here. So if you want to dance, regardless of your age, give Jazziacks a call.

I also wanted a studio that emphasized that dance is fun, that it's joyful, and that it wouldn't be so intense that it wouldn't be fun. I was looking for "rec league" dance. I found a highly professional studio run by experts that are well versed in the mechanics, discipline, and techniques of dance, that had high expectations of their dancers, but who had also created a fun, exciting, dynamic, family-style, loving, joyful environment. It feels like their students are their joy, and dance is their medium. I absolutely love that my daughter attends Greendale Dance Academy. She is hooked for the long haul- and is giddy with excitement when it's a dance day. She's normally very impulsive and a little feral, but in dance class, she is focused, attentive, and a hard worker who is proud of her control over her movements and her body, and is looking forward to learning french :) Enroll your kid. They will love it. Melissa and Pete and their team run an incredible academy. My only regret is we enrolled her at age 7, and not earlier! Her confidence has blossomed, and she adores her teachers and classmates, and takes great pride in her work both in class, and in demonstrating what she learned each night at home after class. However. Tonight during dress rehearsals a father of one students thought it ok to walk through the dressing area where 13-14-15 yr old girls were changing costumes. His child is 8-9 but he felt it ok apparently to walk into a room of exposed young teen girls. This is not appropriate and when I addressed it with the father his response was "so what." When I brought it up to the director of the studio I was told it was a harmless mistake and she'd take care of it. Then, during the trophy ceremony my child was left in the down stairs waiting area where the younger children are supervised and no one went to get her so she could receive her trophy. So my child missed out on the recognition of a trophy that took her yrs to earn. She was very upset. She's only 9. This is not in any way- shape or form acceptable. I will no longer allow my child to attend this school. They do NOT take proper precautions to protect the rights and privacy of their under aged dancers. It very disappointed and quite frankly- disgusted. I'll be finding a more suitable and safe studio for my child to train in. I'll never use or recommend this business again.

Even though I fumbled a ton, the people there were friendly and encouraging. It has an upbeat and no-pressure environment. I would say the bachata class was much easier than the salsa class, but both were equally enjoyable. I ended up joining the beginners program, and I am very much looking forward to my second class. Unfortunately in order to compete in ballroom it cost money so of course the cost has to be paid by student otherwise studios would not be able to survive. He was always very courteous and kind during our lessons and I was thrilled that my long time dream of learning ballroom was coming true. Initially he was very understanding about money and payment for lessons, he allowed me to buy 10 lessons at a time which was much more feasible for my budget then purchasing an entire program. However as time progressed he continued to press me for money and more lessons and finally convinced me to participate in a dancing competition that was to be held in Boston on June 16-18, 2015. I was extremely hesitant to do this, as I have a tendency to feel anxiety in front of crowds. Due to the persistent pressure he put on me to make a decision quickly, and under the guise of looking out for me and telling me it would be a confidence builder and once in a lifetime experience, I finally caved and agreed to participate. From the beginning I was uneasy about the cost. It seemed an exorbitant amount of money to participate in a amateur beginning level completion, but again he acted as though he was doing me a favor and cutting me a deal, because his normal fees were much higher. By May I was riddled with anxiety about the upcoming competition and told him about my fears often, and on May 1st he texted me and promised to refund my competition fees in full ($3,275). We scheduled two meetings to refund the charges, of which he cancelled both. He has since stopped returning phone calls, texts, emails, and un friended me on Facebook. I have made numerous efforts to try and resolve this with Carlos in an amicable way, but after waiting for 60 days for a refund of my hard earned money for services not rendered, I am done being cordial. As far as I am concerned Carlos Manuel Gutierrez jr. outright lied to me about returning my money, and has stolen what adds up to be nearly a months pay for me. I am sick to my stomach over what happened and disgusted that he has chosen to sully what I thought was a completely lovely teacher/student/friend relationship. I am determined to warn others about his behavior and keep fighting until I get my money back in full as promised in writing by him. PLEASE BE AWARE OF FALSE FLATTERY AND AVOID BUSINESS DEALINGS WITH HIM.
