The cole slaw would have been better if it was in a separate bag or container instead of being with the fish as it was warm. The sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly, too. Very tasty and I at every last one! It did not need any condiment to make them taste better. I would go back - but not sure about eating indoors - it's definitely a bar area and it appears to allow smoking inside, unsure of that though. The bar has two sides and there are plenty of large/long tables spread out and you can dine as a single, couple or larger group. But there is a sign on the door that says 21 and over only. Well, there is much more to Pines Tap than old union workers, my friend. This place has the BEST daily dinner specials. Me, I'm partial to the Friday night fish fry, where you can choose from fresh lake perch, cod, frog legs, shrimp, or walleye for somewhere around $7. It's a steal considering how much food you get. And this fish is GOOD! The lake perch is some of the best I've had around---and I'm saying this after having Phil Smidt's and Teibel's and some of the other infamous perch houses of the region. It almost tastes like they took fresh lake perch--only hours old---and fried it in a Long John Silver's-type batter. The result is a crispy outside and a decadent, tasty cut of fish on the inside. If you order it with fries, you'll find this side to be just as tasty as the fish. And don't expect a hole in the wall, even thought Pines Tap isn't in the greatest location of Hammond. It was very busy and we were seated at the farthest table from the front. We waited around 15 minutes to be noticed and had made up our mind to leave and take our chances at the fest when the manager came over and asked if we had been helped. When we said 'no' he told us he would be right back. He came back with Nicole and told us that the waitress who had our table was busy with huge tables and Nicole would be our server. She apologized for the wait and we ordered a couple of beers and our food. Sharon got Polish sausage and saur kraut and I got Indonesian Noodles and added chicken. The menu said it was sweet and spicy Asian noodles with a fried egg on top plus the chicken. Nicole came out right when our beers needed to be refreshed and we ordered a couple more. The food came out and looked great (my egg had a hot sauce smiley face on it) but we had no silverware. After 3 people trying to find silverware Nicole ran over with plastic forks, real knives and napkins. Then it happened. I took a bite. The Indonesian Noodles with smiley face egg and chicken was the best dinner that I have ever ordered at any restaurant! This was not our first time here but we had gone to the back of the menu for sandwiches and never even noticed the entrees before. The entire time I was eating my Noodles I was floating through the air like a cartoon dog that got a dog treat! Highly recommended!!!
