The mural depicts the Napa Independence Day Parade of 1908 with Miss Mazie Behrens as Miss Liberty. This mural was painted by David Huddleston of Napa. He was assisted by Jaci Brooks, Bill Martindale, Carla Crawford and his three daughters. This mural also had the support of the Napa City Council and the Napa Chamber of Commerce and was dedicated on July 4, 1997. On the opposite side of the street is a flight of external stairs to access the parking garage. Feel free to climb up there to get a better eye-level picture of the mural. I posted a panorama of it. Lacunae is by Windsor California artist Catherine Daley and was made in 2018 from a cobination of aluminum and granite. It is a tall sculpture that, according to the artist, "... speaks of the voids left in our lives, community from tragedies, dislocations and shows the wall that separates our common humanity is less solid than we believe." I got that. From the side, it looks like a solid piece. From the front or back, it is quite hollow and yet, it's a wall. Impressive to see and if you're near the Napa City Hall, stop in. I was pleasantly surprised by my visit to this museum. It's more like a beautiful and magnificent…read morepark decorated with art. For that reason, I'd recommend wearing hiking shoes. There are two main galleries with a quarter mile walk in between, with wonderful views looking out into the lake, families of geese captivating visitors, and lovely artwork along the paved path including a giant gong in the beginning representing the division of war and peace (there's also an option to take a shuttle if you prefer not to walk). Gallery 2 was remarkable starting with the indoor Incorrect Museum exhibition. I can only describe the pieces as weird, comical, unpredictable, and quite intriguing. Some interesting artworks include the Rhino car (covered with random items and made up of two front ends of different cars, plus a rhino head, and actually drivable), the Memory Garden (made up of 4,000 glass bottles, wood, and stone), and the Totem di Rosa, which you can step inside (I even found a bunny in there, lol). Outside, there is a sculpture garden and courtyard with numerous art pieces spaced out really well. Thus, prepare to walk as you explore the various sculptures, including a steel flying dragon, a pile of boats, cute sheep set up on a hill to look real, a quirky looking giant harp, and a very tall chair. There are also picnic tables for guests, in a shady area covered by trees, and picturesque gardens and pathways to stroll through before making your way back to Gallery 1, the gift shop, and parking lot. I had a wonderful time here this past weekend, it was so much more than I expected, and I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for some interesting art or even if you're just into peaceful and scenic outdoor environments.

After My Own Art…read more Located on 217 acres of pristine Napa Valley land, the Di Rosa is a contemporary art museum that's been operating publicly since 1997. This museum is the personal collection of Rene & Veronica di Rosa. The Good: *Temporary exhibits rotate approximately every four months. *Complimentary umbrellas (more on that later) *A good portion of the exhibits are outdoors along their gorgeous property. *Shuttle if you don't want to or need assistance walking from building to building. *You really have to like weird shit because this place is full of it. Personally, I love it, but if you're more "serious" art person, then this probably won't be your jam. *Picnic tables on the grounds, as you're encouraged to bring food and drink to enjoy in their outdoor area. *Friendly staff The Meh: *General admission of $25 might be a touch high for an art museum. The Ugly: *Be wary when visiting during inclement weather,as there's a large part of this museum that's outdoors. So you'll probably miss out on some of it, but the free umbrellas (mentioned above) did come in handy. Conclusion: Fun art museum with some really cool pieces and doesn't take itself too seriously.

Looking at the Google Street View history, there was a much bigger tree in the way back in 2007 that was since replaced and this tree was a tiny sapling back then. So maybe it will take a couple of viewpoints to see the entire mural as the new tree gets bigger. There is a marker posted adjacent to the mural. It reads... Credit the 1908 Napa City & County Portfolio & Directory, published by Mr. H. A. Darms of Napa, and considerable research in the archives of the Napa County Historical Society by Napa artist Miky Kravjansky for the concept behind this montage of early Napa. Important personages represented include, from left, Napa County Sheriff D. A. Dunlap (with hat & moustache), Napa Mayor D. S. Kyser (with moustache & sideburns), Superior Court Judge Henry C. Gesford (with beard & shock of white hair) and Justice of the Peace (future State Senator) Nathan Coombs. The lady depicted on the page of the Napa Daily Journal is Lena A. Jackson, the then Superintendent of Schools. Noteworthy buildings of the time are, from left, the Goodman Library, the Napa County Courthouse, the Migliavacca Mansion (all three are still standing) & the Central School. In the center, behind the courthouse & depicted in the distance, are some of the many spires of the "Insane Asylum", the city's largest employer of the time. The glove and shoe in the Keigs Shoe Store ad are examples of goods manufactured locally and the Horse & Buggy, an example of the major mode of transportation. The "1900" wine cask and fresh fruit denote the large part agriculture played in those days. The lady & two children and the couple in the center are in the dress of the day & the foursome of "dandy" gentlemen are shown sampling wine, a pastime as popular then as it is today. We have attended this festival twice (2024 & 2026) with our local friends and loved it! It's well…read moreorganized and an enjoyable way to walk around downtown Napa. We will continue to attend each year provided the weather cooperates. This year (2026) I loved the gnomes, but I was a bit disappointed with the artist talks on opening night of the festival, as the gallery venue was very noisy and the artists were mingling with guests in the gallery when we arrived. There was a mic set up and I would have preferred that the artists done brief presentations on their exhibits with the mic before they mingled. The event felt a bit chaotic and my group left quickly when we realized that the artists were not doing formal talks. We enjoyed walking along the river to watch the sunset instead near the lighted art exhibits!

The projection captures time-loss through dance and movement from present to past. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, we opted to park a bit away from downtown and that worked great. They reference their European influences but haven't honored their people centric roots. It's two disconnected but richly manicured blocks like a mini-Scottsdale, and I don't mean that as a compliment. The sidewalks are narrow and won't accommodate people walking next to each other. It's designed so that you drive, park, eat, and leave. There's no ambling, meandering, or discovering. It's hard to ignore the sound of the highway.
