This is one of the best nurseries in Oregon. Huge selection of interesting plants you will not find elsewhere. The staff are always friendly and helpful, so if you can't find something - ask. If Fred is there - pick his brain for plants that will do well for your conditions. Sometimes, their online list is a little off - we usually go there with about 20 plants on the list, get 18 that were there and another 10 based on their recommendations. read more

HERE are the pictures of the ferns I got from the Dancing Oaks Nursery nursery VS from the little price of Oregon, I paid about the same price on each ferns and shipping is the same. You can truly see the difference. I'm not talking about if the ferns is full or big, Just the quality of each leaf, you know if that ferns were happy on previews environment or not. RED box is little Prince of Oregon nursery and BLUE box is from Dancing oaks Nursery. ALL ferns are rooth bounded and I'm pretty few of these ferns have been on this nursery pots for more than a year. One of the ferns (Indian fern) leaf was getting eaten by some kinda insects, you can see on the leaf that it was eaten by bugs, but they still think it's ok to send me this kinda ferns? One fern is infected with some kinda virus just looking at the leaf but very sad to say that they just don't give any *** to any of their plants. I never ask for a refund or new ferns since they already think it was ok for them to send that kinda fern so why would I bother right? I hope this pandemic makes this soulless nursery shut down and they need to find a business that can give them inspiration every day, clearly you can see that one nursery is very passionate and care about their plants while dancing oaks lost the passion and inspiration of having the nursery. Pick a day like we did. Low 70's and clear skies. Drive as many Blue Highways as you can. Oh, go ahead and drive a few gravel roads too. You'll be driving down a 2+ mile gravel road to get to this nursery anyway. It's a one lane gravel road at that, so be prepared to get your right side a bit off the road. Once you arrive at Dancing Oaks take the whole place in by walking the gravel paths and when you're ready to get down to (plant) issues get someone smarter than you (easy for me, less easy, but doable for the master gardener around these parts) to further pin down what makes sense based on your desires, hortensius. We made a special trip to visit Dancing Oaks Nursery based on what they advertised on their website. While there were some unusual plants in a very lovely, casually organized collection, it was hard to find what we were looking for and we left feeling a bit mislead by the website. read more

After spending the morning in Portland shopping the plant sale with abandon we decided to head south to the destination nursery that defines the phrase. A bit of a drive from Portland but obviously not enough to keep us plant geeks from making the trip. We drove down from Seattle for the weekend intent on shopping with abandon at the show and other area nurseries. Dancing Oaks was hands down my favorite of the bunch. The climb up out of the valley to the hill top where the nursery sits is breath taking but once you pull in an see the beds you know right away the trip was well worth it. The staff are very knowledgeable an helpful. The plants are well labeled (very important for a place where most of the plants you will find there are unusual), well organized and of good health. The grounds are spectacular with well maintained beds that are filled to the brim (often spilling over) with thoughtful planting a and unique combinations. We were there in the spring (April) and I would love to come back at others times of the year to see how the garden changes throughout the seasons. Bottom line, if you are a plants person or a beginning gardener that wants to developers your garden with more than what you can find at the box stores than you should check this place out! read more

It's a fantastic fairyland nursery! Such a wonderful surprise in the middle of "nowhere". Unusual plants in wonderful gardens that are not "neat and tidy" but creative collections. Loved it! Go! read more

This is a very special supplier which should be approached with preparation even if it were not remote. The visible retail selection would be unimpressive to the average shopper but the demonstration gardens are something else again. I think this nursery would come into its own only if preceded by 1) a tour of the demonstration gardens with a docent (TAKE NOTES) and 2) careful study of the online catalog. And perhaps call or email ahead if you have specific species already firmly in mind. The website does not describe availability of guided tours other than possibly during the annual visitation of the Hardy Plant Society, which I have not attended. The small pots are adequately labeled, the large specimens like trees not so much, and the demonstration plantings hardly at all. Hence the need for help by staff, which have been courteous and helpful to me. Vines are being planted thereabouts in huge acreages. I do not know if wine tasting is offered nearby but the way things are going this locale may soon be a multi-day, multi-activity destination. read more

Although I'm a relatively new gardener, I am absolutely enchanted with the offerings and people from Dancing Oaks, owners, staff, resident felines, and even other plant perusers seeking both beauty and often something unique to transplant in their home or work setting. Dancing Oaks is an experience, well worth the gorgeous drive. Every season unfurls fabulous and unexpected buds and blossoms. There is always a new color, fragrance or foliage to delight.The display gardens are spell binding. Passionate staff seem to intuitively know how to converse with everyone on the spectrum from "You need a plant for shade" to the latest scientific discovery from South Africa. Pretty sure chlorophyll runs in their veins. Fantastic events. Friendly, mammoth sized garden cats. Whether you are new to gardening or a collector of the rare and unusual, you'll find something here that will both thrive and knocks your socks off!!! read more
