John is an affable competent Real live gun-smith with a complete machine shop of tools for jobs you just can't get anyone else to do. I just had Mr. Danforth customize my XD 45 6 inch barrel by putting in a custom designed thrust port into the barrel. Workmanship was exceptionally detailed and clean. Just fired a little over 150 rounds through the XD 45 tactical with the barrel that John Dansfirth skillfully machined a thrust port into. It tamed the gun dramatically and made target re-acquisition much quicker than before. Very little rise after each shot. It has made the 45 a much more smooth and pleasant gun to shoot. I am very pleased and impressed with the difference. I shot Fiocchi 230 grain round nose, (I regard Fiocchi as garbage, but I still had a box to burn through.) American Eagle 230 grain round nose by Federal and a box of Federal HST+P 230 JHP that I sometimes carry when at work, and even a magazine full of Magtech Bonded 230 grain JHP. Everything had very little rise and was fun to shoot, even the +p loads. Thank you for a job well done. This is the smoothest firing gun ever and your thrust porting really made a difference. I went shooting with a friend from work and let him run a few magazines through it and he was equally impressed. I have been dealing with John Danforth for over ten years. On many occasions he has shared his vast knowledge of all areas of the firearms field to help me make the right choice, not only in the modification of my firearms, but in the selection of new firearms as well. I purchased a used O&U that had a dent in the bottom barrel. When I went to the gunsmith in Redlands, He informed me that it would take up to six months because he was busy and the cost would be $100. A friend suggested Danforth. Upon visiting John Danforth and informing him of the problem, John took the barrels into his back room and within five minutes he was back. The dent was gone, just a slight discoloration was visable. He informed me that the only way to get rid of ths blemish was to reblue the barrels. I did not wish to spend the money to do this and declined the chance to reblue. I asked John what the charge would be and was told that $5 would cover his time. Needless to say I was very happy and as I did not have a $5, I left him a $10. I have sent many friends to Danforth when they needed a gunsmith and the feed back from them was very good. At a later date, John also sent the barrels to have thin wall chokes installed instead of me having to do the mess of contacting Brailey and shipping the barrels to them. As I was new to O&U guns, I did not pull the chokes and clean them. The result was that when I was told what I had to do to clean the gun, I could not remove them. Once again I visited John and after his laughing and informing me of the proper care of my gun, he removed the chokes after 3 hours and $50 I left with my gun and a great repect for Johns ability, knowledge and kindness. read more

I purchased a new HK USP Handgun and wanted myTrijicon Night Sights installed the day I was able to pick it up which was a SUNDAY. Danforth Gunsmithing was actually open and LeAnne was a pleasure to deal with. I called at 11:30am and she told me that as soon as I got the gun to her, she could begin working on it. I was so happy that I could actually have it back that day. I took a new Remington 700 PSS .308 to Danforth so I could have a long range target rifle built. He re-chambered my rifle to 300WSM. His work included resurfacing and re-threading the barrel to the action. The bolt was resurfaced to perfect headspace and a Sako extractor was milled in. The result was a finely blueprinted target rifle in a long range caliber that Remington did not offer, at a very reasonable price for the hours of work entailed. This rifle shoots 1/4 to 3/4 MOA, depending on the bullet used. I highly recommend Danforth Gunsmithing for your long range target rifle needs. read more

We went to Danforth Gunsmithing to be greeted by the nicest and friendliest people. We left a 22 pump rifle for repair and blueing which was returned in fantastic shape. The blueing was done nicely! The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable regarding this old rifle. It looks just like it did in the carnival days. They estimated the date of manufacture, and it's worth today. Took my 1911 38 super in to have them install a 22TCM para/Clark ramped barrel and slide. Gave me a quote which sounded reasonable due to the machine work that had to be done.
