Back in the day that shirt cost probably $5 when it was new, and then it was warn and warn (god only knows what happened in it) and then someone probably croaked while wearing it and then it found its way across the world to Australia (probably by sea, possibly by air) and now it's in a Paddington shop and costs nearly eighty bones. Interesting indeed. If you're looking for a vintage T they have some good ones here, soft as your first teddy bear and in every one of the rainbow's colors. What about original Levi's or seersucker shorts from back when seersucker was cool? Yep, they've got 'em. Cowboy boots? Uh huh. Vintage tradesman shirts? Oh yeah. You know what I loved the most? The wall of old name badges fit to sew onto your favorite jacket. You just have to be named Mick or Marge... but you are, right?

It's casual wear so if you're after some high fashion then don't come here although if you're after a t-shirt, casual shirt, shorts or jeans, then this is your place. The clothes are imported from America so if you do see something you like, there's a good chance no one else will have it! Prices are fair but if you are after a real bargain head down stairs to the basement where everything is dirt cheap. Apart from clothes there's also accessories like hats, wallets and little name tags which can be sewn on any item of clothing if you're that way inclined. Even if you don't want to sew it on anything, finding something with your name on it always makes you feel special!

There has…read morebeen a Dangerfield in Westfield forever, it may in fact still be there- but the shop in the mall is a fantasy land and besides gorgeous polkadot and floral dresses and an ample men's section, has the best home accessories section I've seen this brand put out to date. Rubix cube cushion seats put fluffy dice to shame! I'm hoping this shop keeps up with the Bondi Junction tradition of "permanent sales", as I found myself purchasing a gorgeous silk dress reduced from $88 to $60, and with another 20% off- bringing me new frockage for a grand total of $48. Oh here's a secret for the girls: Dangerfield has the most awesome knickers ever. Love!

U Turn has a pretty wide selection, mostly colour coded and ranging from cute yellow sundresses to slime green sequined padded bras/tops with nipple tassles. Fact. The rack that hosted the mosted for me was lined with one piece swimsuits of all shapes and colours, from strapless leopard print to '90's padded checks, paisley flowing floral numbers and fluro striped black catsuits that I'm pretty sure I once owned. Most of these were priced around $25, and whilst the smell of chlorine that clung to them deterred me a little (on top of the facts that a) it's almost like buying second hand underwear and b) I daresay years of wear has led to severely see-through swimmers), I feel an imminent purchase in the not so distant future. I've found a few good buys from U Turn in the past and if you've got the time to look hard enough, you can often find something pretty nice for pretty cheap - the last dress I bought from here was only $30. They also have a small selection of slightly (read heavily) worn shoes and some stellar handbags. The staff here are occasionally willing to swing you a deal if you're spending a bit too. NB: Heaps cooler than the Rozelle U-Turn store.

But as I look through the racks in U Turn, I think to myself that I could probably find most of these clothes in St Vinnies for a fraction of the price. However if you don't want to treasure hunt in charity shops, U turn is a good option as you know they have selected pre loved clothes of existing quality so you can fast track your way to a retro look. U Turn obviously carefully select their stock, providing a mixed selection of 70's and 80's fashion. Lots of old jumpers, leather jackets and loud shirts. Their focus seems to be more towards women than men. Although I did find a hat I liked, I don't think I have enough hipster in me for U Turn to entice me to purchase, but based on the crowd in many Sydney clubs, they could be a goldmine for twenty something's in Sydney,

I seem to buy my goods on a Thursday night and the young Sales assistant is always ready to find the right outfit. He will be honest and say "Umm I think you need the bigger size!" He is very diplomatic and has an infectious smile. The prices are not cheap but the item is different and often a talking point at dinner or a party.

Red Chilli also stocks a large range of waist- costs and waist- coat and t-shirts in one, which if you want the smart look.

Not so in Australia - the prices in here are RIDICULOUS, particularly given the cheapness with which they are available overseas. Not happy, Jan! Of course, the clothes are nice - think along the lines of Country Road or Witchery, but a little more on trend; this season, Marcs is stuffed with brightly-coloured blazers and matching dresses. The clothes are also seemingly well made, with an emphasis on functional design. However, none of this takes away from how DAMN EXPENSIVE THEY ARE - $200 for a sundress? Come on, Marc; let's play fair. Despite what I consider to be highway robbery, Marcs is packed with young professionals getting their late-night shopping on when I visit one Thursday night. Youthful people with a high disposable income are most certainly the target market in here. Accordingly, those of us who aren't dressed in corporate gear are not even given a look in by the perfectly-groomed sales people. I think if you wore their entire range you would be accused of being too conservative, but a few pieces can add class to your wardrobe. They do colour blocking well and it is huge this season, and their stripes and sporadic patterns always work. They have a 50's inspired dress and for the less adventurous some conservative, ladylike dresses for the office function. Either way you can always do with some Marcs in your cupboard.

Not me though, all their songs sound like ad jingles to me. I know, sacrilege.
