We submitted our application mid-week, provided documentation, were told we were approved, and agreed to terms -- all while clearly communicating that we were relocating with a young child and on a tight timeline. After approval, the process stalled. A lease was not drafted, communication slowed, and new requirements were introduced late in the process, including a mandatory in-person meeting with the landlord before a lease would even be prepared. This requirement was never disclosed when we applied or when we were approved, despite the agent having ample time to set expectations given how long the property had been on the market. For an agent representing a home listed for months, we expected basic readiness: clarity on landlord requirements, responsiveness once approved applicants were in place, and an understanding of how relocation timelines work. Instead, the process felt disorganized and reactive, with shifting expectations that ultimately made it impossible for us to proceed. The home itself was lovely, but the experience was mismanaged and unnecessarily stressful. Future applicants would be wise to confirm all landlord requirements upfront and not assume that approval or agreed terms mean a lease will follow promptly.
