My 1st question was "has this surgery changed in 30 plus years? AND told him my story", his reply was "no, but you will not be in that kind of pain, if much at all"! Max 2 weeks in a boot and then back into shoes. Well, I wanted to believe him but really didn't. I have had a number of surgeries in my 70 years, and this is the only one I remember like it was yesterday. I knew I had to proceed, low and behold I don't even think I took 1 pain pill. In a week I told him I was ready to get back to my life and he said, "not so fast, you need to wear the boot at least another week, so you don't mess up what I did". Oh darn! I did and have never had a problem since. He also saw my left foot, as it too had a big bunion, but said, "until you are in pain", let's leave it alone. 3 years later, I am now in pain (it's not a pain you forget). I went to see Dr. Berenter and said it's time. He x-rays my foot and says, let's book it. I am going in next week for my surgery and not concerned a bit because I know he is the best and have referred many people to him in my senior community. The only thing that would be better is if his office was up in our neck of the woods. LOL

After 2 visits Dr. Cullen performed the surgery. 2 months later I AM BACK to ALL of the activities I performed before the injury. Now I do it ALL: *lift weights *hike in the mountains * ride bicycle *ride my street and dirt motorcycles NO RESTRICTIONS! Prior to my appointment, I completed all of the requested online paperwork, including uploading my insurance card. When I arrived, I was told that neither my paperwork nor insurance information had been received, so I completed everything again by hand. I only had a photo of the front of my insurance card and was told they needed both sides. After spending approximately 15 minutes trying unsuccessfully to get a photo of the back, another receptionist told me I could simply send it later. I then waited another 20 minutes. When I finally asked when I would be seen, the receptionist seemed surprised that I was still there. Apparently, I had been forgotten. She then asked for my copayment. When I handed her my American Express card, I was told they don't accept Amex and that I could drive approximately 15 minutes to an ATM. Her other suggestion was that I reschedule. When I later pointed out to the office manager that there was nothing on their website indicating they don't accept Amex, she told me it was posted on their front door. I couldn't help but laugh--by the time a patient sees the front door, they're already there. At that point, I asked to speak with the office manager. Big mistake. When I explained that I had already submitted my paperwork online, she interrupted me to say that their office has nothing to do with the online service. There was no concern about what had happened to the personal information I had submitted through a system their office had directed me to use. Instead, she was rude and dismissive and, when I became frustrated with how I was being treated, accused me of being rude. Benjamin may be an excellent doctor, but the front office is a patient's first experience with a practice. Based on mine, I'll never know. I won't be returning.
