Not to worry though, they were able to get me scheduled to be seen in less than a week. As luck would have it, they had a cancellation and called and got me in the next day. The office is clean and has a great view of the river, and they offer cold beverages while you wait. In addition, they use nitrous on request, which I have been given since childhood. Dr. Suarez was very kind and took time to make sure I was adequately numbed before he removed my molar. I was given verbal and printed after care. They exceeded my expectations in every way.

I ended up with 4 dry sockets before I even left. I woke up in hysterics. Im guessing from the trauma of what I had gone through. I had to come back daily for painful packing procedures. And was down for at least a month if not longer from the repercussions of all that. I have had tmj and headaches since. we actually have quite a few older very mean Drs. in town and it surprises me how they can continue to keep working. More options here would be nice. He did his best to diagnose and provide medication until I could see someone with more appropriate expertise in root canals. The staff there were all very friendly and professional. I appreciated being treated with care and that everyone explained what they were doing and why. Team Perio was out of network for my insurance but their price was reasonable and I was happy to pay it. I hope my insurer gets their head on straight.

Dr. Van der Werff has been extremely helpful diagnosing my problem and devising the appropriate treatment. His staff has, without exception, been extremely friendly and helpful. I, too, had an insurance issue at one point but, as is the case nearly 100% of the time, it was the fault of the insurance company in challenging the treatment and changing their minds about what they would cover. They told the office one thing at one time and another thing at a later date. After reading a couple of the other reviews, it is apparent to me that these reviewers, like nearly all of the public, have no appreciation for the unreliability of insurance companies and the games that insurance companies play with healthcare providers that end up causing deep frustration and anger among providers who have to deal directly with all these slippery and unscrupulous insurance companies. But then the insurance bullet ultimately ricochets into the patients who unstanderably become angry and frustrated insurance companies victims as well. But the patients, who have little or no knowledge of the backroom insurance company shenanigans in their dealings with the providers, too often blame the providers rather than the real culprit in the mess, the insurance company. When it comes to calling and getting information from an insurance company about a contested issue, I will 98+% of the time disbelieve most, or all, of the information given if it disagrees with the provider's story of events. That's just where we are in this country with insurance companies now and has been this way for more than 20 years. I can personally attest to this since I have been a healthcare provider for 40+ years and have watched with incredible dismay at the dismantling of healthcare that used to work 30+ years ago satisfactorily (not perfect but so much better than anything we, doctors and patients, have to put up with now). The 2 biggest players by several magnitudes in this destruction are insurance companies, and big business (that operates nearly all hospitals and an ever-increasing majority of individual doctors and dentists providers' practices). So the dissatisfaction of 2 of the other 2 reviewers is understandable but they came to incorrect conclusions since they fail to understand to insurance backstory (through no fault of their own).

Hands down I can say that Dr. Mike and Chris Nelson are the best dentists in the North State! I have seen first hand how a case can truly bother Dr. Mike to the point of working through lunch and staying up at night. He is truly a perfectionist and doesn't quit until the patient is receiving the best care possible. I have never seen a dentist care as much as they do. I have had several of my family and friends switch from their long time family dentists because they too have seen what a great team they have at Nelson Family Dental Group. Dr. Mike and Chris do not only care about the mouth. They truly strive to care for the whole person. They often like to discuss diet and airway in addition to just the teeth. They both do exceptional work when it comes to all types of dentistry: fillings, crowns/bridges, esthetics, oral surgery, dentures and root canals. It is so nice to see such a family oriented dental team every time I come in for an appointment. All of the staff are excellent and work hard to make sure every patient leaves with a smile. Janet and Kristy always answer the phone with a pleasant greeting and are always so helpful with any questions I have. The hygienists, Carie and Jen, even take the time to get to know you during each visit. Each of the assistants are so knowledgeable in what they do and work so well with the doctors.
