After 6 months of worsening back/neck pain despite tx. from multiple specialists, I was REFERRED here while suffering from now chronic pain (I was dx. w some of the most painful conditions such as, Parsonage Turner, Thoracic Outlet, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome aka "the suicide disease", nerve impingement, to to name a few). I am an RN, future FNP and mom of a 2 year-old and was reluctant to start going to "pain management" but I didn't have any other options. My 1st visit w the NP was great, she was one of the few w any sort of compassion. I tried EVERY conventional method available--PT, TPI's, acupuncture, massage, TENS unit, self-tx, topicals, steroids, muscle relaxers, NSAIDS, all with no relief. I never experienced pain like this, had massive swelling & compression like nerve pain around my entire R shoulder & back. I begged for an epidural just to get some relief. Today I had the unpleasant experience of seeing Dr. Battaglia. From the min I entered the room, he had it out for me. The NP pointed out right away the increased swelling & a painful mass forming on my back that felt like it was pressing on my spine. The 1st thing I told him was the my BP/HR had been elevated bc I check it daily. He was argumentative about minor things, such as how I described the kind of tests I've already had (like I was making it up), there was no way I had TOS & why did I have an EMG done? He didn't listen to a THING I tried telling him about my history (4 MRI's, CTA's, 2 EMG) & was judgmental that I've seen 12 specialists (neuro, PCP, ortho, sx, physiatry, spine). He changed the focus of the appt on my "pupils being dilated" & began accusing me of "using". After this interrogation, I went into the room with the NP who was going to adjust my meds since I wasn't getting adequate relief w the mild pain reliever I was on. He called from 10 ft outside the office (I could hear him on the phone) & told her to run a drug screen (fine!) & started making assumptions that I ran out of my meds early & probably "forgot" to bring the remaining pills w me. When she got off the phone, I showed her that I did have them with me & counted the remaining pills (he was wrong). I happily agreed to a drug screen. 10 mins after I left, the desk called me bc they "forgot" to take my vitals & demanded I come back bc I was a "complicated" patient?? Or else they couldn't prescribe me anything (which is a LIE bc no one took my vitals at my 1st appt). I was going to be late for my Ortho appt but agreed to come back to make things easier. The girl that took my BP manually claimed it was 170, which is another LIE bc I took it earlier & sent it to the NP. Dr. Battaglia began lecturing & accusing me of abusing my own prescriptions & from going to a diet clinic I went to months ago. He claimed the reason I am in pain is "self-inflicted cardiac chest pain." I was in such disbelief, nothing I was going to say could defend myself from these ridiculous accusations, he already had his ind made up. He HUMILIATED me in the middle of the LOBBY in FRONT of the office staff! He made accusations that could not be farther from the truth, told me to come back when I get my "health in check" (I saw my PCP 1 wk ago; labs, BP, HR, all normal!). I told him my BP has been directly r/t to my pain & he pretty much called me a liar. I know my body, I know something is wrong. I was sent here to manage the pain until I can find an answer (Mayo Clinic is taking my case.) I've NEVER been treated so horribly in my life. No human being deserves to be treated this inhumanely, especially someone that has been thru what I've been thru. He had the nerve to ask me why I was crying when I could barely speak. I've spent $4,000+ in 6 wks at this facility alone (MRI's, co-pays, meds) & put myself thru some extremely unpleasant/endless diagnostics for many months. I wouldn't treat a piece of dog sh*t on the side of the road as poorly as he treated me. I'm in pain just trying to type this review, but it's totally worth it. As a healthcare worker, I can't let this kind of treatment go unheard... read more
