Great venue, accessible and easy parking. We attended a show in their theatre and had a great experience.

You can use stairs or an elevator. The entire place is extremely modern. They have touch panels for temperature control and AV control. There many equipment, including several large screen TVs on a movable pedestal. They even have garbage cans that open by waving your hand in front of a sensor! Their website is easy to navigate, and you can register for classes there. On Mon to Sat, they have programs for babies, toddlers, kids, adults, and seniors. For kids, there are classes in science, cooking, art, and music. For adults & seniors, there are classes in art, cooking, fitness, and music. Some of the classes have been adapted for special needs kids and their caregivers. The community centre opens the space for Autism Ontario on a Sun, provides the cookies, coffee, tea, and a receptionist, all for free! My son was here to play chess against other children. Luckily, he found someone who was almost equal to his skill level, so he definitely enjoyed his two hours there. During the summer, they also hold summer camps. There is free WiFi. The place is wheelchair accessible. There are separate male/female washrooms, and they are wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2023-262

Some showers have been broken for years (like the handheld one). I can only talk for the staff in the women's only hours of Sundays. They open late, they claim not having "enough staff" to man the different pool areas, when you can see up to four or five people hanging out at the office area of the pool on their phones or eating. How much of a break they need if they only work for 1 hr 45 mins? None of them look athletic or like they even know how to swim. They are always eating. If it is a long weekend they kick us out early, with the excuse of "it's a long weekend and people need to be with their families", one day they kicked us out with no excuse only vaguely alleging "it's a fire hazard" and they were expecting us to go outside in our bathing suits and "wait there", many women refused and one said "I'm getting my stuff, call the cops if you want". The level of the staff is downright horrible, they are useless and talk down to the people as if they were simple. That is a community center, not jail or the military, they are not "in charge of us", they work there and we pay with our taxes. They should start charging a small fee for people to attend and make these clowns accountable, they are there to work, not to be on the phone and eat and yell at each other and people attending

Just today I discovered some music rooms downstairs!!!! This community center keeps surprising me with new discoveries lol. There's a small but smart weight room, great pool, gym with a new floor and lots of multipurpose and studio space. For new parents, families new to the area, or anyone who wants to get or stay active, it's the perfect place. My only criticism ever was with the kids karate instructor. He seems to like to make kids cry, seems to have a chip on his shoulder and in general isn't that good at karate. That's one minus in 3 years of pluses, so whatever.

But as I reminisce the good…read moreol' days pre-pandemic, Matty Eckler was one of those places that put a great jumpstart to my weekend morning. I come here for their drop-in volleyball at 9:30 am on Saturday, but let's be real, regulars know you should be there much earlier to get a coveted spot. You'll find us volleyballers eagerly lining up outside early morning at the dead of winter before the community centre even opens. I like it in a way because it motivates a night owl like me to get up early, fit in volleyball and still have the rest of my day to make plans/run errands. Skill level is diverse, most people can pass, and a few people can spike for some interesting plays. It's unspoken, but people encourage 3 touches before going over the net -a welcoming bunch of all ages (from Uni students to mature folks 40+). You'll find an occasional noobie and a brilliant player who can really kill the ball. One time I took an L to the face from a spike. So don't say I didn't warn you, don't wear glasses and get your reflexes up. The gym is not large, only one court, but it received an OVO facelift, thanks to Raptors and Drake! We form our own teams and adjust the skill levels in teams for better rallies. The winning team only stays on max 2 games, so no worries in one team hogging the court. Not trying to sell this too hard so this place can be our best-kept secret when it opens again. Please don't come. Just kidding... not kidding.
