    Castle in the library

We knew this place, since COVID time needed to be vaccinated. The basketball field was used for taking vaccines. We came here for my baby's library card. Markham kid's library card is fine free for books borrowing, and there are non-books items that we can borrow, like lendery, instruments, bicycles, toys, and digital media,...my baby loves this place so much, there is a small kid's space inside the library. There is a pool in the community center, however, today it was closed for maintenance from August 26-October someday. I am going to give my baby some swimming lessons. But when we asked the information center, the staff was not really patient to answer, and asked me to scan the QR code or go online. There are some program rooms that students could borrow for projects. And there is a gym room on 2nd level. Markham community center is a great option for kids.

This is one of the locations for York Region's Covid 19 vaccine centres. You MUST make an appointment from York Region's C19 vaccination site, select a time and show up for the appointment. There is a HUGE parking lot and there is an attendant there ensuring you have an appointment and informs you which doors and what time to enter. There is a security guard at the main doors ensuring you have are there for the vaccine with a reservation. You are again passed to the first round of 4 that will check your name and the grouping you signed up for. Round 2, this is where they verify your documents ensuring you are here for the right and valid reasons. Round 3, this is pre-entering the vaccination zone. Here they verify your health card, address and email before entering the vaccination zone. Round 4 is with the vaccination technician who will again verify your health card and email. Ask a few more questions before administering the 0.3ml of the life saving liquid, many of us call " The Vaccine " Bonus round. Upon being administered the vaccine, you are required to stay for 15 minutes ensuring no adverse reactions before you are on your merry way with one last pop quiz by the exit attendant, "Did you receive the vaccine administered email". Upon a "yes" response, you are free to wait patiently for 14 days at home allowing the liquid to bloom and take effect

Beautiful community centre, and it has everything: Library, Gym, Swimming Pool, Cooking Room, Indoor playground and much more. Ample parking. Staff are friendly and nice. I love their multi-sensory room. I've signed up a class for my little one in this multi-sensory room. The room is so cleaned, and there's so many things for my little one to explore!

(Especially on days of a swim meet or tournament). Pro tip: do NOT park your car at the neighbouring seemingly empty lot- it belongs to ford, and they are NOT friendly neighbours. Your car will get towed without a warning. This community centre is spacious and clean. Everything is easy to find. The gym is gigantic and stretches far beyond my eyes. The pool is 50m, worked by beautiful and hardworking lifeguards (lol just kidding, shameless plug). Both areas have plenty of seating for viewers. The hallways are large and extensive, so don't be afraid to wander around. There's also a fitness centre overlooking the pool. It's kind of small and lame but I rarely see it packed, so I guess it'd be a good idea. It's not great for lifting, but it has a lot of equipment for such a small gym. The regulars are usually older adults, trying to get some exercise in.

The parking and accessibility of it was terrible though, since the walk from the parking lot to the building is far and I can definitely imagine that being inconvenient for some people or even just during the winter season with all the snow and slush. The inside is very airy and spacious with tons of natural light. The building is also brand new now, so all the facilities are great!

This location has a large upper gym area, a pool, and courts for different sports. They also have classes throughout the day! Not necessarily my favorite Y, but ultimately it has most things you'd expect to find in one…read more I mentioned in a review for another Y that decor doesn't really matter with gyms. I guess that's still true but I was surprised at how much the monotone grey-scale of the entire place made it feel cold in here. I guess I'll continue with a couple more critiques. One is that I don't understand why they don't simply keep towel racks in the plus change-rooms as they do at every other Y I've ever been to. It's part of what you're paying for, and though you can get them at the front desk, it just seemed odd that they just won't keep them stocked in the change-room for convenience. The change-room itself was quite small and has virtually no seats which was a bit odd too. Apart from those minor things, the workout area is well stocked and they even have a couple unique things in what is sort of a mini studio in the middle of the workout area. One thing I really appreciate this place as a runner is that their track is longer than most of the other ones as it circles the gymnasium as well. It's nice having longer straightaways so you don't feel like you're turning most of the time. If you're strictly into using weights, they do have what you need here though you can probably find other places to go to for cheaper. However, Y's (including this one) are great for having additional amenities, which includes a full-sized pool, gymnasium, running track, programming for kids and other things. There's also often more a community feel at them and often a chance to make connections too.

There is also a waterslide and small splash pad that isn't always in use/ turned on. The onsite gym isn't the largest but has decent equipment and a nice large 3 lane track (slow, medium, fast) that overlooks the gymnasium from above. It also doesn't connect to the rec centre directly during this time of construction/ sometimes the elevator is not operational which is inconvenient especially in the winter when you have to exit the parking garage only to walk a few meters to enter the rec centre.

As a parent who cares deeply about the well-being of my children and other families in the community, I feel obligated to raise these issues publicly because the current conditions may place visitors, especially children, at risk. My first concern is the parking and traffic management outside the center. During the event, there were far more visitors than available parking spaces. As a result, vehicles were parked improperly, including along main walking routes used by families and children. This created congestion and confusion. Even more concerning, several drivers were moving through the area at unsafe speeds while children were walking between the entrance and driveway. I personally witnessed situations where children appeared close to being struck by passing vehicles. There were no visible staff members outside to direct traffic, no temporary traffic control measures, and no clear signage to guide drivers. In addition, some corners of the parking area have poor visibility, making it difficult for drivers to see pedestrians approaching. Installing convex safety mirrors at blind corners would significantly improve visibility and reduce the risk of accidents. Without immediate improvements, the site appears vulnerable to a serious incident. My second concern is overcrowding inside the building. Once inside, the center was extremely crowded, with little visible organization or crowd control. There did not appear to be anyone monitoring the number of attendees or guiding visitors. This raised concerns about emergency preparedness and fire safety. In the event of an evacuation or emergency, it is unclear how people would exit quickly and safely. A busy public venue should have clear occupancy controls, proper supervision, and emergency planning procedures in place at all times. Another issue was the lack of attentiveness from staff at the information desk. I observed a young staff member focused on a cellphone while visitors around him appeared confused and in need of assistance. At a time when many guests required guidance, staff should be actively engaged, approachable, and available to help. Public-facing employees should understand that they represent the center and are often the first point of contact for visitors. Most disappointing was an interaction with a staff member identified as Eva. I politely asked for information about the event, but her response was dismissive and unfriendly. She stated that the activity was run by another group and was "not her business," then told me to ask them myself. Regardless of which organization was hosting the event, staff on duty inside the center should respond respectfully and make reasonable efforts to assist visitors. Basic courtesy, patience, and professionalism are expected in any community facility. Overall, I am disappointed that such an important community center appears to prioritize attendance numbers over safety and visitor experience. I strongly urge management to address the following issues immediately: improve parking and traffic control, install mirrors at blind corners, review occupancy and fire safety procedures, ensure staff remain attentive while on duty, and provide customer service training for employees.

Parking is along the outside perimeter of the building and fills up quickly if there's an event. I was only in the open area (room 108, which is 2,340 square feet) and the kitchen (room 109) for an event. It didn't start off well when we arrived. The tables and chairs were supposed to already be set up, but they weren't. This delayed the opening of the event. Since it's an open area, people using other parts of the centre may wander into the space. The kitchen was a big space with multiple sinks, fridges, ovens, a flattop grill, and stoves with a large island. Two things that were a bummer were that the dishwasher did not work and that there was water dripping from the ceiling vent, which worsened when it started raining outside.
