Bottom line upfront: Dapper Barber and Shave Parlor is clean, modern, inviting and awesome! My barber, Ms. Ash, is probably the best beard fighter this side of Mars!
Long Version:
I never understood...rather, grasped the full realization of the anger, the ire, the murderous f'ing rage ladies get when a stylist messes up their hair. And the same rage boiling up every time they pass a mirror.
Grew my first beard last year. Had a good three months of growth and went to a place in Fayetteville for a TRIM. Explained to my good man through the use of words, symbols, art work and a F'ING PHOTO what beard I was growing & going for. This young man, this malcontent, this philistine, this deranged clipper wielding lunatic shaved off about TWO MONTHS of my glorious beard as if we'd never spoken and his goal in life was to provoke bearded men into murder.
I've since driven to and turned around three times from barber shops with the fear of losing my current four month dense jungle beard to the over zealous, heedless, clipper crazy barbers populating the high n' tight shops of the greater Bragg Area.
Until today...
I was given a sterling recommendation by a bearded companion that Dapper's is the place to go.
Still reeling from the last BIC (beard in contact) from a year ago, I entered Dapper's with high hopes for a positive outcome.
Dapper's (owned by the bearded and stylish Nate) welcomes you with a modern yet classic barber shop feel, warm and inviting, clean, bright and pleasant.
With PTSD triggers everywhere (the sound of clippers, hair falling in slow motion to the floor, the 'snip' of scissors), I fought and overcame my Agent Orange acting up and dove into the barber chair of the Amazing Ms. Ash. (Yes, Ms. Ash. She's a lady. So I put Ms. up there so you cavemen would know you're looking for a lady barber, ya bunch of damn dirty apes!).
I explained my horror story from the year before. She listened. We wept. She held me. I healed. (The last few parts may or may not be utter bullshit - except she did listen).
In all sincerity - I told Ash my tale and she was extremely patient and reassuring.
She listened to and HEARD my requestS, answered all my questions and even went above and beyond during different steps to explain what was happening next, etc.
She was also great for a chat, witty banter, some jokes and a good laugh.
And I have to tell you all, my hard rocking, beard sporting brethren: she nailed it. Absolutely nailed it.
The beard cut is perfect in every way.
Ash is a consummate beard fighter; likening back to the days of Grizzly Adams, ZZ Top, Yosemite Sam, Abe Lincoln and Frederick Douglas.
Entering the place I was a rugged, bearded, Viking conqueror...departing I'm a rugged, bearded, Viking executive.
Had to fight my wife off of me six times on the way home. Was pulled over by two female officers, one female UPS lady, followed by the UNC cheerleader squad...even chatted up by this very pleasant gay guy when I stopped for gas.
This beard trim is so damn fine I may have to stay inside for a week or two until this media frenzy calms down.
