Well I followed my father's recommendation and last Saturday drove down from Southern Pines along the backroad of NC 5 to downtown Aberdeen to visit an "old-school barber shop that give straight razor shaves," or so said my father. Now if any man knows where to get a good deal in the Sandhills, it's that man so how could I resist. I enjoy the pleasures of man-themed pampering as much as the next guy (I think?) so I drug my willing girlfriend down to do a little shopping along the streets and shops of downtown aberdeen - on another note, if you haven't been to Aberdeen lately, you'd be surprised to find the quality of stores down there. That is for another review I guess. So I arrived and was greeted by some good ole boys and man they have a good thing going. First off there isn't a whole lot of competition because for no good reason that I can see men haven't been allowed to enjoy the good old barber shop experience. Until now that is. The owner is a young guy who knows what he is doing and may be in the running for my first regular grooming destination since I was a small child. The haircut was professional, the atmosphere is up and coming with what I'm sure will be a few hiccups but all in all this establishment deserves five stars for originality - albeit retro -, service, price and overall customer experience.' There may be other barbers in the area but this will be my stop next Saturday to get the weekly cut. I may go for the straight razor shave again just because it's a cool experience, who really cares that a gillette in my own hand will beat it out in terms of speed and accuracy but then again that isn't the point after all anyway. read more

Byron is a great barber and a young business man trying to make downtown Aberdeen better. Bryon recently added another barber, Chris. Both Bryon and Chris know what they are doing and give excellent cuts. Do not hesitate using either one of them. The quality of the cut is very good and precise. The shop itself has gone through some changes as Bryon experiments with ways to increase foot traffic downtown but through it all Blues Crossing has remained the best place in the area to get a great cut at a decent price. read more

Moving out to San Diego from NYC and stopped in Pinehurst for some Sandhills golf. Needed a cut before my flight so I walked in - no appointment. Great cut, good conversation and the cut was just around 20 buck before tip. Great spot. It's hard to find a barber in a strange town. Trust these guys to fix you up right. read more

Great haircut, horrible shave. Barber used way too much pressure with the blade, and still somehow didn't get an especially close shave. Very uncomfortable. The worst part is he completely missed parts of my face (only did one stroke under my lip and let about a half inch strip of hair on either side). I shouldn't pay you $20 and then have to go home and finish the job myself. I would come back for a haircut, but I can get a better shave myself at home for a lot less. read more

Bryon is by far the best barber I've ever been to. For the last few years he has kept my hair looking great and off my ears enough for Army standards. He also does an awesome straight razor shave, and the atmosphere is great. This place is well worth the trip if you don't want a hack job from a chain barber or on post. I hope I can find someone half as good where I'm going next. read more
