We bought Dutch cheeses ( cheaper than the specialty stores either same brands) , scarves, freshly made stroopwafels, herring fish sandwiches ( not our thing), and all kinds of things. If you're planning a museum day in the Museumplein Park area where the Van Gogh, Rijks, Moco, and Stedelijk museums (and then some) are, I would recommend trying to go on a day the Museum Market is there. They're right in the center of it all, so on top of all of the museums, it's a convenient way to get a look at local artists, designers, and food vendors. It makes for very convenient souvenir shopping as they have a HUGE range of art fashion, accessories, jewelry, household stuff, toys, and miscellaneous little things that I enjoyed a bit more than what I found in the surrounding museums' souvenir shops. If you're looking for food, there are a few food vendors with small things. We were actually coming from the Van Gogh Museum and were attracted to the food carts. Besides the usual sweets and baked good stands, I finally got the chance to try bitterballens and there was this Mr. Brasa barbeque stand that we found pretty interesting. There isn't really a lot of benches/tables, but there are a few. Overall, fun addition that I definitely think you should include in your Amsterdam museum-hopping plans.

You will find chefs from neighboring restaurants and residents from the area shopping for vegetables, fruit, eggs, cheese, fish, bread, nuts, flowers, and candy. What a great market!…read more I usually go to the Albert Cuyp for normal shopping, as it is closer to my house, and bigger. But last Saturday, when I ended up there rather by coincidence, I remembered why I passed by there almost every week back when I used to live in Oud Zuid. Thus, I have decided to do my best to visit next week again. The market is small, but very 'gezellig'. It's quite cute actually. It has a lot of different things - flowers, burgers, wine, meats, vegetables, cheese. I also got a homemade spicy sun-dried tomato mayonnaise. It was a bit pricey at 6,95 euros, but it is amazing! Perfect also for summer dishes, I paired it with cod cheeks on little gem salad and onion-parsley-tomato salsa. Delicious! But indeed, the price is a little shocking, especially if 3 stalls further you can buy a bottle of rose for the same price (even a bit less, actually). Also, my friend and I got a burger and enjoyed it in the sun; I recommend :) There is not a lot of place to sit, but if you can snag a spot at the shared tables, it is really great. Anyways - loving it - and I will be back for sure.
