Located in the UNI downtown area and near-ish to Sidecar Coffee and other bars, this is the newest…read morecomic book store to come into the area. However, be aware that that's exactly what it is: a comic book store. Many times, a comic book store will also have a lot of other nerd toys like gaming supplies, figurines, playing cards, and things like that. Limited Edition Comics isn't like that. They're a comic book store through-and-through. They have a very small selection of tabletop accessories for Star Trek and Star Wars games as well as a couple of board games to choose from, but that's about it. Everything else is comic books, and they definitely have a huge selection. As I'm not a comic book fan, but instead, I enjoy the "nerd supplies" like the figurines or tabletop accessories, this was a bit of a let-down. It's a pretty small store, and as far as I can tell, the playing tables are downstairs while the upstairs is the shopping area. Also, to add to the weirdness, the upstairs also seems to include a barber shop. There were people getting their hair cut while I came in. There were also a bunch of people having friendly conversations, so it seems like there's a group of people who probably come here regularly. Since they have tables and whatnot downstairs, I'm assuming they probably host local tabletop gaming or card game tournaments. Nothing was going on at the moment as far as I could see, but it did look like they had space downstairs. From the prices of items I compared to Amazon, their pricing is usually within $2 of what Amazon wants, so very fair pricing. Definitely worth purchasing locally. Wasn't greeted or really acknowledged while in the store. It's a pretty small store, so it felt a bit awkward to not be acknowledged, but it did allow me to browse in peace. No one was outwardly rude or giving me "the outsider!" looks, though, so it's possible that greeting customers is not usually within their usual procedure. Parking here is standard parking for a downtown-ish area. There is a small free parking lot down at the base of the hill of the street, but it's a small walk to get to the store. You also could park curb-side if you wanted to, but I didn't find it a problem to walk to the store instead. Final thoughts: If you love comic book stores, you'll probably enjoy Limited Edition Comics. It's a great comic book store, but don't expect a lot of the other "nerd toys" that usually come along with comic book stores. I probably won't come back, but that's mostly out of personal preference for something other than comic books. Not a bad store, though.

Walking up stairs there is a huge Millennium Falcon ship hanging up in lobby which the owner gladly shares its backstory. Actually is a barber shop that evolved into comic store and small pop culture vibe. Heavy on comics with some light assortment of DC and Marvel statues. Clean and laid out well within the space confines. Worth checking out the place. Mostly enjoyed chatting with owner about Star Wars.

It wasn't until I hit a couple of the other Michaels' locations in the state that I realized how awesome this particular location is. The staff here has never been anything other than great. They're usually busy with stuff, so they aren't particularly amazing at *seeking* you out to ask how you're faring, but if I've ever approached one of them with questions about how to do a craft or where to find something, they seem really happy to help and usually will take me to the exact spot. Most of the employees seem super knowledgeable about various crafts too. The store itself is super clean and modern, too. It's a relatively new building, and it shows. Everything is always in its place, and while it might take a bit to find exactly where I think something should be, I always go "of course it's right there!" when I figure out what section it's in. The bathrooms are really clean, and the employees seem to do a fantastic job of cleaning up errant items. When I've occasionally put down a couple of my items to use the restroom, I'll come back to find them cleaned up already. (Which is annoying, admittedly, but still, great attention to cleanliness on the part of the staff) Check-out is the only time where you might have to wait a bit. The staff is always good about calling for back-up when the lines get long, but just due to the coupons and the usually-tiny nature of items that people pick up, it can take a little bit for each person in line to check-out. Like all hobby stores (which I still find to be an odd practice), Michaels offers 40% or 50% off various parts of the store on different weeks. You can usually wait out for particular sections to go on sale in order to take advantage of the better prices (though baking supplies seem to be very rarely discounted). Every week, they usually have a 40/50% off any regularly-priced item coupon available on their website that you can use, and on special occasions, they run one-day sales where you can get 20% off your total purchase including sale items. I'll admit Hobby Lobby is a bit bigger and has a better selection of various things due to the larger store. However, I've always found that Michael has a whole lot better selection, and it's open on Sunday. (Plus, depending on your political views, shopping at Michaels means not supporting Hobby Lobby)

It was pretty busy because it's a couple weeks before the holidays. The Christmas merchandise was pretty wiped out. There were lots of holes in and amongst The Christmas items. They had enough Christmas wreaths for the entire city of Cedar falls. They do not have a fabric department. They do have a large framing department, painting supplies, jewelry making supplies, kids craft projects, cards and wrapping paper and more fun stuff. Besides the Christmas Department being so shocked over I thought the other departments or nicely stocked. What I did notice was I didn't see any employees on the sales floor except at the registers. I didn't need any help but normally when you walk to restore your greeted by people and asked if you do need any help and I didn't see that today. They had four registers open and for employees behind the registers. There weren't any customers at the register when I approach them. They were too busy talking to one another that no one even offered to help me. I stood there for a very awkward 10 to 15 seconds until they noticed me. The cashier that did offer to help me was very friendly. She commented on the cute craft that I was buying and when she was done she told me to have a wonderful Christmas. I'm sure I'll be back. Either because I'm over by the target store or it Sunday. Otherwise I'll probably go to the other major craft store in town because they have more selection and better sales. I thought the prices on items were pretty much the same as hobby lobby. Although hobby lobby runs more 50% off are buy one get one free sales then I saw at Michael's.

The flatbread is huge--at least two meals' worth--as are the salads. Beer's available in full pours, half pours, and flights, so it's easy to sample a few in one sitting. And don't miss the specials--especially inventive soups. There's plenty of seating options, too--a nice patio, bar stools, and a couple rooms full of tables and booths. Cheers!

There is ample space inside and out, and it's all very open and clean, though the inside dining areas are separated into large rooms, which I think would help with noise control when it's busy. We visited around 7:45 on a Friday evening in August and found it remarkably not crowded, but they have another location in Cedar Falls that probably draws a larger crowd. We were at the Waterloo location, which probably caters to a lot of business people and business travelers during the week. We ordered a lot of food for two people, and it was all excellent, but I rate this cool place four stars because all the food came out of the kitchen at once and we were totally overwhelmed. If it had been paced, I think we could have pulled it off, and as travelers, we couldn't really take leftovers with us to have another day. Our server was extremely helpful and patient helping me understand their beverage selections. I enjoy a good cocktail or a glass of good wine, but my beer tastes are even more limited, but SingleSpeed offered up the perfect solution: the SingleSpeed-a-rita. This is made with their Ring Around the Gose, tequila, agave, and lime juice. That hit the spot on a hot Friday night in Iowa!
