I had completely forgotten about my favorite cookies/"biscuits", which are Tim Tams! They had a nice selection of flavors to choose from and considering they were at the airport, they were reasonably priced. This place was convenient and easy to shop in.

First things first: the staff was incredible. We went to order two 1.5L tubs of ice cream (max of 5 flavors each) and we tried A LOT of flavors before deciding. I'm talking give or take 20 flavor samples-- and the star m staff never batted an eye. They were courteous and generous and put up with one of our group explicitly asking for a sample large enough for the three of us to share. Now the actual gelato: we got mango, raspberry, coconut lychee, pistachio, macadamia nut crunch, pear and rhubarb. The mango and macadamia were the stars for our group by far, though honorable mentions to the pistachio and pear+rhubarb. I personally thought all of them other than the mango were excellent, with the macadamia being my favorite. It was nutty and sweet with a cookie like crunch in there somewhere. Amazing. I spent my entire last week trying to get back here for more gelato and never was able to. Do yourself a favor and go out of your way to get some Messina if you're in Sydney.

I love the fact that they sell their wraps in half measures, so you can mix and match flavours or keep it light, so you can fill up on their delicious sweet items. My son loves the cute chocolate cupcakes they sell, in fact they're the only cakes he will eat (I often wonder if he is indeed mine). They come with a variety of jelly characters on the top and my kid is a fan of the pink penguin. Apparently there are hysterical meltdowns if the favoured character is not available. Apparently. Their nuts are delicious, particularly the Macadamia Clusters and Vienna Almonds. They also sell chocolate maps of Australia which are a bit tacky, but I suppose it might make a novel gag gift. I really want to go back and get a box of Macadamia Trio, white, milk and dark chocolate. Mmmmmmm.

Walking into the mall shop you wouldn't think that they would be big enough but out the back the pastry chefs are busy working all day making the shells for the cannoli, patisserie cream and cakes for orders have never been so brisk. Moving with the times, Mezzapica makes cakes from cupcakes, all the standard cakes ie: mudcake, several different varieties of mousse cake, cheesecakes and specialty cakes eg: handbags, soccer balls and gingerbread houses. Next door a Mezzapica cafe has opened and it serves Mezzapica cakes and coffee. Try getting a seat there on the weekend, there's rarely a vacant table.
