Romerberg is the historical center of Frankfurt's old town, known as Altstadt with traditional half-timbered houses & medieval Fountain of Justice in the square's center. Most buildings were destroyed in WWII, local authorities have reconstructed the main Frankfurt Square in recent decades & built new buildings in accordance with original plans.
The square is dominated by the Romer building complex (City Hall), seat of the Frankfurt city administration. In Romerberg there are many cafes, shops, craftsmen's workshops & museums. Recommended are St Nicholas Church, St Paul's Church &Historical Museum.
The square is also well known for Christmas Markets & imperial coronations. The Coronation Route, a walking tour through the colorful historic old town is recommended.
