Dave! 2 stars!! Customer service is going down the drain. My husband and I are regulars. (I personally have been going to your place since the early 90's) Oh, my goodness this morning the gal (glasses, long gray hair, quiet), working wouldn't turn the gas pump on for my husband. He was running late, had only had his debit card and had hoped to grab gas, then run in and pay for a fountain drink. As he only had his debit card with him. As he stood there for what seemed forever, he then paid with his card. He had to pay the new price of $1.50 for his fountain refill, using his debit card. Speaking of which, you may want to take down those $.99 signs for refills since the cost has gone up. You're still the cheapest fountain place in town and that's appreciated. read more

This review is for Dave's Auto, which is the repair side. I have had them service my vehicles for a couple years, and became increasingly hesitant. For example, the receipts that they provide are not complete. There is no vehicle description, VIN, etc., and parts and labor descriptions are extremely limited. This concerns me, as a former auto mechanic. My last service at Dave's included adjusting the parking park (done), and diagnosing two issues: a driveline vibration and an engine ticking noise. These diagnoses were actually quite easy, but they determined that the vibration was probably a cupped tire and the ticking noise was in the valve train. I readily found a bad u-joint in the rear driveshaft (vibration), and a broken bolt on the passenger side exhaust manifold (very common in 5.7 L Hemi engines, and causes the ticking noise). In fact, they had replaced that exhaust manifold 2 years ago for the same reason. These were such basic diagnoses, and coupled with the lingering concerns about documentation of service, it was time for me to find a different shop, which I did. read more

They advertise as being the best car wash in Helena,,, AND THEY ARE! Does not look very fancy, but once you drive in the bay there is a guy that does a complete job of high pressuring the heavy dirt off, and then hand washes what is left. Removing the heavy stuff ensures the hand rub will not have grit, and no scratching. But it is not over yet! Now the automated sprayer encircles your vehicle and applies a heavy coat of liquid wax and next...complete hand drying. By far the best, most complete, safest on my finish car wash I ever had anywhere, bar none. read more

Edit: 2/18/ 22 I cannot effectively express how angry and disgusting I am to the point of tears when yesterday and today my driver side cv joint started clanking again when taking left turns. I am a single mother of 3 who works 5 days a week out out of town, and I am a full time student. The cost of this repair was 2 full paychecks for me and now I have to take it to another mechanic to be repaired AGAIN just a month later. SHAME ON YOU! Also the refund issued was $164 out of the $400+ over charge. This in no way covers the overcharge assigned to me. The financial hardship this has caused will likely take months to recover from. I also know full well that I had all 4 hubcaps because I just got my snow tires put on the 2 days before I took my car to you and had checked them at that time. This is absolute garbage. Again,shame on you.. I highly recommend that anyone needing auto work go to Eagle Tire. The quotes are itemized and printed, the mechanics are thorough and honest and they are efficient in communication with customers. I will never even stop at Dave's for coffee again and it was my favorite gas station for about 10 years before this. Original review: Called to get a quote for front brakes and drivers side CV joint, was quoted 547.50 for both. Took my car in Friday morning and they told me at 3pm that my cv joint didn't show up on time and car wouldn't be ready for another day. Picked up my car on Saturday night and was charged $860. I was told to come back on Monday to speak to the owner. Went back on Monday and the owner blew me off saying that he thought I was taken care of already then sent me to the shop without listening to what happened. The shop says both my cv joints were bad so they just replaced it without asking me first and wouldn't answer why I only was given 1 break pad on my bill and sent my car home without 2 of my hubcaps. Went las week July 7 to have oil change it includes the car wash and vacuum I was hopping my vehicle is cleaned and vacuumed good when I got home I inspected my vehicle if it's vacuumed I am disappointed that my vehicle is dirty just like it wasn't vacuumed at all so decided to stop by again today to have it vacuumed I waited at the waiting area then the guy told me that it is done I gave the guy a $10 tip when I got home again I inspected my vehicle if it is clean it is the same dirty just like they did not vacuumed my vehicle too bad you just lost another customer I will not go back at here again read more

I usually only write reviews for places that I enjoyed the experience, as most of the time people only write reviews for places they had a bad time at. I have no idea what happened when the reviewer below went, but I had the exact opposite experience. I drove right into the bay, one guy began by prepping my vehicle for a vacuum and the second took down my information. I went into the waiting area and had two or three people offer me a free fountain drink while I read the paper. Within 25 minutes or so my car was ready. The guy came in and ran through everything that they did (filled the tires, topped some fluids, checked the filters, etc) this was also the first time ever in the history of me getting oil changes where the place did not try to upsell me on an air filter. He said it looked fine and didn't need to be changed. The only con of this place is that it is out of my way, but that is not really a con as I will now drive there to get my oil changed. They did awesome work and were extremely friendly. read more

While visiting from out of town I had some issues with my vehicle and unexpectedly found out at 4PM Saturday that I needed an oil change right away. Being basically the end of the business day Saturday. I was facing needing service on a Sunday. Good luck funding anything better than Jiffy Lube in a strange town right? I'm pleased to say that on the advice of a nearby tire shop, I showed up at Dave's at 10AM Sunday opening time. They got me right in, did exactly the service I asked, offered additional services and put me at ease right away that they actually knew what they were doing. I went full service with oil and lube, vacuum (I think that's included) wash, fill up the gas (non-ethanol all grades), etc. They got me in and out quickly and Dave's is on my list of places that I trust in Helena. This is not a full service garage but they are more than capable of handling the basics and a well stocked convenience store too. read more

I had meant to write this three weeks ago, but had gotten side tracked. I assume Dave's Express Oil & Lube is the same owner as Dave's Auto since there right across the street from each other. I had stopped in on my way passing through town because I had a check engine light come on I met a gentleman by the name of Butch whom was VERY helpful he sent one of his men to scan my truck for which turned out to be a fuel ratio sensor something to that effect anyway. The way he explained it to me in such a way that I completely understood him needless to say he checked all of the auto parts stores in town and there wasn't any available he wrote the part name and number down for me so that I could get it fixed when I got home his man was correct in what was wrong with my truck and my check engine light is out since the new part was replaced. Been getting my car washed here for about a year now (best car wash in town by the way!). Decided to get my oil changed since I was in a hurry and boy am I glad I tried it. Amazing service, very fast, and they do everything under the sun for you while you enjoy a free fountain soda, coffee, or slushy. The changed my oil, vacuumed my interior, topped off all fluids, fueled up my truck, and washed it all for about the same price as just an oil change at other Lube shops. When I went to pay the owner was working the till and checked to make sure I was 100% satisfied before I left. I will be recommending Daves to all my family and friends. Best Gas Station in town, not every store can say the owner works the counter visiting with customers almost everyday. Not only clean but great deals too. When you go here your not just a customer your Dave's Friend, Carwash is the best in town and Ron and Butch in the lube and repair shops make this a one stop shop with all the conveniences of home. Dave runs a clean store with friendly employees who are quick to help customers if a line builds up, and even more quick to engage in friendly conversation during a slow point in the day. I have only ever had one experience at the store, and it was an issue caused by a vendor. Not by Dave, his employees, or his methods of running the store. I was out in the valley and needed gas so I stopped at Dave's Exxon. I saw that they did oil changes so I asked them to do mine. It was the best experience! Everyone was helpful and nice! they changed my oil and washed my car while I waited. And they gave me and my girlfriend free drinks while we waited!
