I called Dave's Mobile Marine and spoke with Dave. I had questions about buying an old boat; do, don't, what to do with old engines, if anything if I do buy. If I need to rebuild or replace engines, Dave can't help, but he was still friendly and informative after knowing I would not be a customer. I bought an older boat and was not able to "splash" or sea trial the boat before purchase. I did noticed the bellows were torn on both sterndrives (Alpha One Gen One) so I called Dave's Mobile Marine. Dave returned my calls and answered all of my questions. He quoted me 17 hours of labor at $100.00/hr and 2 days to repair the bellows. He told me it was one the most hated jobs to do on a sterndrive. I also I asked to replace the water pumps. I supplied almost all (95%) of the parts needed. I think he supplied the shift kits at $100.00 each. I also asked while doing the job and had the stern drives apart if there where any other preventative maintenance issues or items he saw fit to replace as necessary. he showed up on the first day from approx. 09:30am to 12:30 Pm. He then showed up on the second day for about the same time frame. FOR A GRAND TOTAL OF ABOUT 6 HOURS WORTH OF LABOR AFTER TELLING ME IT WOULD BE A 17HR JOB! He did replace one bearing that I supplied. He did not replace the water pumps on either of the drives. Dave told me the screws were stripped that remove the anodes and he forgot to recharge his drill battery to drill them out. What? A mobile mechanic that shows up with dead batteries for his tools. I later removed the starboard anode with no problem and the port drive anode was stripped that I drilled out. I replaced both water pumps myself. Unfortunately, I was out of town for work and my wife made the payment of $1900 dollars. $1700 for labor and $200 for parts. My wife was going to pay with a check and Dave asked if we would use a credit card because he has had issues with people paying with checks in the past. So we paid with a CC. He emailed me the invoice only to find out he charged me $49.50 to use my CC. I called him the next day and he said that his device to run a CC charged him $99.00 bucks and he split the charge with me. He did refund my 49.50. My complaint is that he said the job would take 17 hours and it took closer to 6. Charge me for 8 that's cool I get it but not 17. Be honest. I'm a former Harley Davidson mechanic that was paid on a flat rate scale and no stranger to this type of pay scale and profession. At NO time was I able to complete a job in 30% of the time I was allowed. Maybe I wasn't the best mechanic on job times but I wasn't too bad. I was going to do this work myself but I work 60hrs a week and wanted to spend the little time I have off with my family and doing other things. I live on the lake and have plenty of boating friends. I will not recommend Dave to them. He can say what he wants and he will probably respond but bottom line he ripped me off in labor charges and he knows it. read more

One thing to say is awesome. Had to replace the bellows everywhere around town captains choice, mountain top, mikes automotive all tried to tell me it was an 8.5 hour job wanting anywhere from 850-1200 dollars. Knowing that it was a 4-4.5 hour job I wasn't paying that. Dave came out and for half to less than half that he came to the house and repaired the boat. With no supervision he called me and was super honest and told me he still owed me sometime once parts got in. Came out and we reassembled everything in less than an hour. I highly recommend him as I have been to many boat shops around time for all types of work for years. If you need your boat to be worked on just call him. Wait time isn't too bad at all for him to come out at all. Just give him a call I'll definitely be calling him for any future work! read more

I recently used Dave for aligning my Mercruiser Stern Drive engine and inserting a very difficult Gimbal Bearing. He showed up on time, was very experienced and professional, and, since it only took him about 30 minutes, he used the additional time to make adjustments with my boat. Dave is awesome ! I trailered my boat of from Chicago to visit a friend. Dropped you boat in the water and it wouldn't start . Not knowing anyone around here a guy at the dock recommended Dave. So I called him he knew I was from out of town and could have taken advantage of the situation when instead did just at the opposite he found the problem and fixed it with in 2 hours.
