Today I experienced the best of David Jones service. Peter, level 4 cards and stationary market st store, could not have been more helpful. We went in wii a specific request. We were looking for a box to put a ring in. There was nothing really that seemed to work so Peter walked us over the another area on that floor and asked other staff. Yes I am a fan. I like the range of clothes they have here and I think DJ's has some of the best sales for brand products. Numerous times I have wandered through and found something fantastic on sale at a random time, let alone their normal sale times. They generally have great customer service and I must say probably the best return policy I have ever seen. I actually saw someone return an item that was over 10 years old (with receipt) and staff graciously took it and refunded the money. Good on them. It's the normal DJ's with department store layout catering for most things you could desire. Neat and tidy. The food section is one of my favourites. Often I find some of the best deals in the sale section. My first port of call. lol read more

They are connected by a breezeway, so if the weather is bad you do not have to leave! In the middle of the two stories is a super high end section. I have been shopping at David Jones for decades, and have generally had good in-store service. But I have just spend 20 minutes on the phone trying to get through to one of their stores. There is a generic number and a digital voice who, after trying various numbers, all of which were 'busy', said it would put me through to customer service. No answer. Then I tried customer service online. Got through to a chat service which, after I typed in my question, directed me to a separate company's form! I really enjoyed this department store. It was nice to have an entire building just for men's clothing. There was a fantastic array of clothing no matter what style one was looking for. The customer service was also very friendly and attentive. This department store features a very nice gourmet food section on the "basement" level, which included everything from pastries, to chocolates, to cheeses and pastas. Love the food hall area. There is an abundance of fresh local and international ingredients that are available to devour at fairly good prices. Have enjoyed lunch at the Oyster, Espresso and Panini bars with food that I have taken away. Fresh and inviting. When you come here on a weekend, there are some yummy samples to enjoy. Love the chocolate dipped strawberries, figs and berries :) Hot tip: At the time of writing this, I have scored a couple of Christmas hampers at 75% off. A great opportunity to also buy some Byron Bay Cookies cookie boxes (Rocky Road and White Chocolate Chunk and Macadamia) for 75% off. The good: nice wares. I generally feel like I'm buying high quality products that were not made in sweatshops by toddlers. Based on the relative abundance of products made in countries with labour laws as well as those stamped with fine sort of fair trade sticker, I generally feel justified in not feeling guilty to anyone other than my future poor self. I feel like this corporation makes it easier for me to be a conscientious consumer. The bad: the attitudes of some staff. Someone needs to snap these snobs back into reality. Sadly, I will have my shiny certificate in being a Zen, emerging adult woman taken away if I inform these lasses that they are inconsequential. If, however, someone else does, I will give you a standing ovation. The ugly: the toilets. I've been on too many occasions. What. The. Deuce. I feel like there are several public toilets in the slums of Calcutta / favelas of Rio / sxsw music festival of Austin / red light district of Amsterdam that I'd prefer to use. This place is a complete mess. At one point I had over $800 worth of clothing in my hands - and all I wanted was someone to check for a size for ONE MORE SHIRT - and it was is if I was invisible. So I walked out. I was also going to buy about $250 worth of filet downstairs but opted to just blow that off. Way to lose a customer that regularly drops $1000 or more on suiting and good food. Extra star for the suit help in sizing on the 2nd floor - those guys were very helpful - too bad I dropped it back on the rack after the crap service downstairs. read more

Old style, I mean VERY old style, department store. Great selection, all upscale, with good service (now that's old style). In central Sydney there are two towers to the store. I guess you're suppose to know which tower has which departments, because the directory says nothing of it. When I got to where I wanted to be they had exactly what I wanted. Three friendly ladies at the counter helped me, and the barking dog toy went home to our grandson. Don't miss the food hall. I walked around for an hour trying to find the right product for my wardrobe malfunction in the womans section and do you think you could get anyone to help you? Oh no, they were too busy gossiping about everything else. So after an hour of trying to locate things on my own I got frustrated and left. Way to go with failing at customer service. I'm a sucker for the old department stores, they seem like a real throw back to a golden age of retail before we went online and found everything cheaper. One day we will only be able to buy things from Amazon and they'll crank the price up on us over night. So I frequent DJs and pay the often inflated prices and just enjoy the atmosphere. Double down for one of the best porkers in town get yo self to the butchers in the food hall and purchase a bag of Pork sausies those delicious snags are the cream of Australia's pork deficient sausage crop. p.s I don't acknowledge the existence of chicken sausages, I find the idea perverse. read more

As of 2015, I've scrapped my previous review since the standard of the entire store has crashed and burned. Bad stock, bad store layout, poorly trained staff and an air of superiority make up what was once a glorious store. At this point, Myer is simply a better shopping experience, and that is something I never, ever thought I would say. - DJs continues to restrict sizing in their ordering of shoes, underwear and clothing. I find it particularly unreasonable that size 41 shoes are no longer kept in stock at all. Quite frankly, the buyers are doing an appalling job - much of the designer stock is at least two seasons old, and only select designs (one baby-bag style has appeared at the half-yearly sale three years running). I get the impression they are buying the less-than-popular styles at a discount. - Stock is not treated with any respect, especially during sale times. And if you point out damage, you are treated with the height of suspicion. - I was actually sworn at by a staff member at the Chanel stand, and neither Chanel nor DJs responded in any way to my complaint. This was yelled at me, with no apology from the staff member, after I backed into her (the scene she caused was humiliating.) - The staff need pruning. So far in the last year, I've had a staff member lie to my face about the shoe size she'd brought me because she didn't have the correct size (and then harass me that I 'didn't notice' when I decided not to buy them); the jewellery department are known for taking their sweet time to serve you; having a staff member in the sunglasses department get angry when we wouldn't look at a series of alternatives to a specific item they no longer had in stock, and was repeatedly scolded by staff members when I arrived to collect something on hold, as it 'should never have been put on hold in the first place'. (45 minutes later, it was declared 'lost'.) - It's being run like a glorified discount warehouse, honestly. You're paying for premium brands and a premium experience that you simply aren't getting. The clothing floors are so crammed and crowded that it's unpleasant - some careful curation needs to happen. - The food floors are meh. The sushi train is full of fried or sauce-covered offerings, the fruit stand is out of this world expensive (1.80 for a single apple), and there's a high possibility anything purchased from the bakery will be stale. And the smoothie and yoghurt stand is just Top Juice. - The cleanliness and hygiene of the store and staff desperately needs to be addressed. - The Christmas section! Oh dear. It's been moved to the LG floor with the jewellery. Ugh. It's called a 'concept' store, but it's just racks of ornaments amongst the make up and accessories. Christmas at DJs used to be utter magic. The magic is dead. This is the same Christmas experience I would have at Kmart or Hot Dollar. TLDR: the equivalent of a flea market. Indoors. With a 100% mark-up. Please, please stop renting out floor space to companies and do it yourself. read more

Please excuse me I have lived out of the country for 20 yrs mostly in SF, LA, Vegas, NY, UK, Europe. Eek?! Wth have they done to the city store? Ground floor beauty feels sterile, unwelcoming and like walking into a beauty expo event instead of a store. The layout is ugly and confusing, great for industry insiders, but customers, no. Beauty is supposed to make women feel like they have walked into a huge warm candy store, their eyes should be wide open and amazed by the glitz and delight making them want to buy, this made me want to seek other options. The other floors are ok, a lot better than the Myer store that looks like an indoor market place.....smh....Australia's outlook on retail is confusing, but the outlook on fashion looks like someone dove into a laundry basket and jumped out with whatever. I went down to the food hall. Can you see my disappointed face? Before I left Australia, I loved going to the DJ food hall, the layout, the foods, presentation, imported chocolates, beverages and foods, I would get sucked in and almost spend my entire pay check. Now it looks like a small crowded suburban food hall with a tiny chocolate and grocery selection. When I was a kid I adored DJ's, I thought the store was magical, it inspired my retail career. The meats and seafood, although small in quantity are top quality as are the other grocery products. I've purchased a few choice cuts of meat from here and they have been fresh and A-grade. They have a take home pasta bar which has good choice for those wanting to have a decent meal at home without any of the prep work or cooking. There are a few eateries/bars which attract an upmarket clientele as it is certainly much more pricier than your average food court scenario. It does get packed down here during weekday lunch hour as well off office workers like to be seen dining here! read more

Ah DJ's, always the classier cousin of Myer. Large, split into two buildings for men and women it seems with a simply awesome internal food court. Always a pleasure and always service driven from my experience. If you need virtually anything, get it in the sales. Otherwise you're paying a little bit more than anywhere else - however, the caveat is that the sales experiences I've had there have always been rather good. So you're paying for better service - and if that matters to you (and lets face it, unless you're online, it ought to) then shop here. read more

My favourite department store in Sydney!!! The David Jones city location has everything I want - I feel like a kid in a candy store! Whenever I search up something I want and think "Australia probably doesn't stock this", if Australia has it, it's in DJ's. The displays are so pretty and shopping feels so calm. I love hearing the piano on the ground floor of the women's section, the gourmet food section (one of maybe two stores that stock gourmet food in the city!), and the floral and Christmas displays. My only gripe is that they don't stock enough good stuff! There's a wider selection of each brand and so many more brands in the States or Europe, that I wish they stocked in DJ's (but it's probably a good thing, otherwise I'd go broke!). read more

David Jones online is incompetent. On the 9th of Feb I ordered two white Ted Baker shirts from David Jones online, as the online store said they were both in stock, with an estimated delivery of the 16th of February. On the 12th of Feb I received a call saying that one of the shirts I ordered was out of stock and would be refunded the money. When the order finally arrived on the 19th of Feb, I opened the neatly packed parcel to find the second shirt... WITH A BIG, DIRTY STAIN ON THE COLLAR!!! I immediately called customer service and they told me I had to take the shirt back o my nearest David Jones store for a refund. When I refunded the shirt, the girl at the counter took one look at the shirt and said, "Why did they even send this shirt out?!". So my first experience with David Jones online will also be my last, and all I have to show for it are some reversed charges on my credit card, and less fuel in my car, because, despite the fact I ordered online to avoid going into a store, I STILL HAD TO DRIVE TO A BLOODY STORE!. GET OFF THE INTERNET AND GO AND EAT THEIR WAGYU BURGER!! Their "famous" wagyu burger is made with fresh, simple flavours paired with an amazing Wagyu patty. Absolutely knock your socks off stuff. There are a number of 'bars' at work here, noodle bar, wine bar, burger bar, sushi bar. Each bar seats 7-15 people, so there isn't a great deal of room during peak periods. I heart David Jones. It is by far the best department store in Sydney. To me DJs is known for the quality of its products - you can be assured you'll find a selection of the top of the range, whatever you're shopping for. Fashion wise, I'm always attracted to DJs because they have a great selection of high-end designers like Scanlan & Theodore, Jac + Jack, Lisa Ho and Bianca Spendor through to more up and coming labels like Mink Pink, Friend of Mine and Style Stalker. A trip to the city store is like stepping back in time - I can just imagine the ladies in hats and gloves swaying through DJs back in the day. The old elevators, grand foyers and restored staircases are reminiscent of an era gone-by. The DJs city store has a killer food court also where you can grab anything from a fresh fruit salad to meat to a champagne at the oyster bar. There is a certain pomp and ceremony about a trip to the DJs city store that is just hard not to love. read more

I really like their gourmet food hall. A regular stop for me in my visits to Sydney. As much as I love it, the prices vary from fine to almost unreal. Very good meats, sushi, and sweets. Great quality fruits. Imported items like simple crackers for $14 seems a bit absurd. Whilst the store is huge, you can definitely navigate around it. Whilst everything is overpriced for what it is you can find great bargains depending when you go. You would be surprised that you can find great bargains even when there are no sales. You can easily spend a minimum 4 hours in the store. However, despite David Jones prestigious name, the staff don't live up to the same quality. Most of the staff are rude and don't actually try to help you locate something. read more

I remember when you could always buy what you wanted at David Jones, but over the last few years, their stock, and, namely, the choices available have diminished. We recently bought some dinnerware as click-and-collect from David Jones Chatswood. The staff in the store did not know where the 'customer service' area was. The man behind the 'customer service' area had no concept of service. Saying "What do you want me to do about this?" is not appropriate response when somebody is there to pick a package they have already paid for! Very disappointed. We tried to send a gift card to our daughter, for her 25th wedding anniversary, from David Jones store, but disappointed when gift did not ever get to my daughter. We received an order confirmation, with payment being taken from my credit card, on the day of ordering, but found, when enquiring, that their customer care team is nothing but a shambles. I sent a letter, to the Managing Director, at their head office in Sydney, to let him know of the treatment we had received from his staff, but true to form, never did get an answer. My wife picked up a mug online and they shipped out the wrong mug. She emailed them on Thursday night with no reply by 11am Monday. I called and waited 22 minutes in the call queue before I gave up. If David Jones wants to compete online then they need to have some level of service. Very poor effort compared to overseas online retailers.
