When I moved back to Alaska in November last year I was looking for a doctor to treat me as a whole person not just a collection of symptoms. Dr. Barnes is amazing! He has really improved my health and quality of life and I don't think you can ask for more than that from your healthcare provider. His assistant Paula is amazing as well! They have gone out of their way to be accommodating and have even contacted me after hours to answer questions and give updates. Best doctor I have ever been to. Dr. Barnes will be my new primary for sure. He was attentive, put up with my constantly interrupting him, and didn't make me feel rushed at all like my last few doctors. He spent time on each issue individually with me and at the end of the appointment went back through and summarized everything we had talked about to make sure we were clear and hadn't missed something. At most offices you get stoneface looks from the front desk, here they made me feel comfortable and welcome. Everyone here has a sense of humor and made jokes about usual medical tropes. I have been a patient of Dr Barnes for a long time, 6+ years. But as of late I can't get any call backs at all, from the front desk or the nurse. The nurse makes you feel stupid for not knowing what's wrong with you and asking for tests to be done. I have called for my husband to get an appointment with their office and they never returned our call(even with a very detailed message), been two month or more since then. I had to figure out how to get my husband to a specialist all on my own. I call and leave messages name, DOB, phone number and a very short and to the point message(I need to see dr Barnes) but still nothing. They have had to change their messages saying don't call repeatedly, I wonder if that's because they refuse to return calls. I actually thought they refused to return our calls because we still owed money and forgot about a bill, I called the billing office and we have a zero standing balance on both my husband and my accounts. I have been waiting over a week for the last attempt for a returned call, I even went to their web site and sent them most of what I wrote here. Still nothing. I have had to go to urgent care more then once because they wouldn't return my calls. The doctor is great, his staff is to comfortable in their positions to actually do a good job. I am sure they will screen this and the doc will never see this. It's too bad, he is a great guy and doctor. Looks like I will have to take my health care elsewhere. The staff at this office is so bad that after more than 10 years of seeing Dr Barnes, I am leaving this practice. I asked for a video or phone conference and was told I would need to come into the office, they weren't doing that. I have immune issues and during a pandemic this was unreasonable. His nurse actually told me I needed to "suck it up" after I expressed doubt that I would be able to complete a test that required no liquids for more than 12 hours. They NEVER answer the phone-you always have to leave a message and though they say they check the messages often that is not true. Don't bother, find a better doctor and staff, this one isn't up to par. read more

Up until I went on Medicare the first of 2017, I would have given Dr. Barnes 5 stars from my interaction and visits to his office. I called in for an appointment this month to follow up on some blood work I had done in August and was told that I would not be seeing Dr. Barnes any longer because I am on Medicare. I would have to have my appointments with a physicians assistant. Even though I have been a patient of his for about 8 or 9 years, he didn't even give me the courtesy of a letter or phone call informing me of this change. Also, when I was in the office in an exam room, I heard him out in the hallway talking with the physicians assistant, and he did not bother to even come in for a minute to inquire how I was or to say sorry for the changes in his policy.
