There's also always this smell up at the top. there's no good circulation in the whole area which if you have respiratory problems, I would not recommend this place. When I was 12 years old, I received a flyer in the mail for a play at Theatre 360. I spent weeks…read morememorizing a monologue and took a bus all the way to Pasadena for the audition. A few seconds into my audition, one of the judges interrupted me to say I couldn't participate in the play unless I was also enrolled in two of their paid classes. I explained that I was just hoping for the chance to audition, and my parents couldn't afford the additional classes. One of the judges reacted kindly and started to explain the process to me, but another judge cut her off with a cold, curt "Thank you, that will be all," and kicked me out of the room. Kids hear no all the time, but there was something so callous about her tone that it stayed with me after all these years. I'm in my 30s now, and this memory came rushing back when I found Theatre 360 flyers in my parents' mailbox. Looking back, I realize they had created a pay-to-play setup presented as open auditions for children. It takes a lot of courage for a kid to memorize a monologue, figure out public transportation, and perform in front of strangers. To cut a child off mid-audition and dismiss them so coldly showed a lack of empathy from the adults in charge. If this is how they handled kids who were simply not aware of their prerequisites, I'd question management's motives and how much they actually care about the kids here.

When you show up to class, you don't really know what to expect. The word "class" brings many weird associations to all of us. I was never good at school, so I didn't know how this particular type of school would work out. I'm just so, so insanely grateful now. Corey has been a phenomenal teacher. He just has this ability to find the funny in you. He has this ability to help you understand comedy and see it as a craft. He's a good listener. He has little to no ego. That's one of the many things that makes him so good. You're not just there to listen and take notes. You'll be on stage early, first in front of your fellow students and then in front of up to 120 people. Being on stage like that can be a life-changing experience. Even though you're expected to joke and be funny, don't treat the class as a joke. You soon realize how much work goes into being funny, and that a five-minute set can feel like an eternity. You're forced to cut things out. You're forced to make your jokes better and more direct, sort of similar to how you're forced to keep reading this review of mine. Don't wait until you've done an open mic first. Don't wait. Don't be scared that you're not funny enough. Just show up on Sunday at the oldest comedy club in LA and do your best.

"The orange light was fleeting" as I made my way for the eight o'clock lecture by Dr. Don Pettit being held in a building that looked like "Braut Kuchen mit Mozartkugeln" German for: Bride cake with chocolate covered marzipan balls (an Austrian specialty). He stressed the varied ways one may view a "Space Photo" and showed us live examples of how linear thinking does not always apply. In space "Off the Planet" and "far out of the box" thinking as "no answers at the back of the book" and problems must be solved in real time. Dr. Don Pettit kept interest for over an hour on his adventures in space. Delightful! Funded by Keck Institute for Space Studies (KISS). The set was well made and had good props and lighting. The only thing is since there is no assigned seating, the main area gets very crowded quickly whether its the middle or even the side aisles. That leaves the 2nd floor level. It would've been wonderful if all the seats had a good vibe of the stage. But if you were unlucky enough to sit in the seats closest to the stage, you lose sight of what's going on. My recommendation is to arrive early so you can sit in the main hall. Every seat there has a great view of the stage. If you have to sit upstairs, make sure to sit where you have a direct view of the stage. If you end up sitting on the ends, you have an impaired view of the stage and you miss seeing part of what's going on because it is blocked so everyone is leaning forward to try and see what they're missing. Good theater. Nice acoustics. Parking is pretty tight but there is extra available parking at the high school and on the street.

But I wanted a jump start into it of a class in a group setting. I love love love that this place as a non-profit, offers free movement healing classes for TBI, stroke, Down syndrome, and Parkinson's. A class is $14, well worth it - seriously, take my money. A package deal is 70ish? And there's currently a Yelp $200 for $240 deal for the well committed. Their website is useful and informative as to their very accommodating schedule (another reason I decided to stop by here). You can park at a nearby garage structure for 90 minutes free and classes are an hour average so it works out perfectly. They are diagonally across from Panache Bridal next to a parking lot (not to be confused by a parking structure). I got here a bit late (15 minutes) but was welcomed warmly...some dance studios like this one in mid-Wilshire I used to go to for modern can get pretty serious about it (for a brief/awkward moment anyway). They were super chill the whole time. The instructor's energy is laid back, informative, open, encouraging and vibrant. Expressionism is healing. Give this place a shot. Will definitely make time to be back, occasionally, when the mood strikes again.

Went…read morelast year for the first time and then twice this year to see both Production A (The Unnameable, the Chimes, and Cask of Amontillado) and Production B **new** (Casting the Runes, A Ghost Story, and The Body Snatcher). I brought a bunch of people with me to see Production A this year. It was amazing as always... Note to newcomers - if you are meeting people at the event, make sure that all members of your group receive the same color sticker on their program. You want to stay together in the same group. Also note that they have coffee, hot apple juice (which they insist on calling cider), and a few candy bars. $2 each or 2 items for $3. Bring cash, a jacket as you will be outside for a time, and comfortable shoes for walking and standing for short periods. The plays are immersive as you walk following the characters and story progression through the creepy and eeriliy lit long hallways of the mausoleum... and through the cemetery across the street. Most of the acting is great. Last night was unusual because they had BOTH productions going on at the same time. I was concerned that we would be running into each other in the corridors and we would lose the integrity of the individual plays with competing noise in the background. They actually handled it really well and there was only about 5 minutes when I was distracted by noise from another play. Production B was very good for the most part. I will not forget the images from Casting the Runes and The Body Snatcher. The Ghost Story however, started out GREAT but then the second half was kind of ridiculous. What annoyed me most was the fact that because it wasn't as long as the other plays and they all had to end at the same time, the guide read us "The Raven" as we walked back. Now, I take my Poe seriously and want it done right or not at all. This guy read it from the folder, lost his place a few times, used a voice that I assume was supposed to be funny (and wasn't). It just wasn't done well. If they HAD to fill up that time, (and I hope they read this review) they should have the poem read at the original site and read seriously by someone who can do it properly... by candlelight... with some thunder, rain, and lightning in the background. I was not only disappointed, but mad that it had been done so poorly. I could have read it better (and not from a folder). All in all, it's still a Halloween favorite and the location is fantastic and used well.
