This is the worst experience I've ever had with any insurance company. Prior to this, I was with another company for ten years without any issues. First, they asked us to provide the exact mileage on our vehicles. When we didn't do that, our rate went up $30 PER MONTH! I then applied for a new quote from a different company and insured our vehicles for a better rate. I called to cancel my policy through State Farm. I received an email that stated they could not cancel. I then called the agent the next day to cancel. I spoke on the phone with him directly. I told him to cancel the policy. He tried to talk me out of switching companies, tried to convince me to stay with them even though they were more expensive, and was uncooperative. I told him to cancel the policy. He asked to see the declarations page of our new policy to see if they could beat it. I did not send it. It's not a requirement. I was already insured through another company. Fast forward two weeks, State Farm debits my bank account for another months insurance premium. This created an overdraft because I wasn't expecting another payment to come out of our account. I call State Farm again. The person I talk to says he will send a note to the agent to cancel. I hear nothing. 24 hours goes by and I call again during working hours. The agent is not available and the local office is closed. The woman stops payment on any future payments (why they didn't do this from the beginning is beyond me). The woman then tells me the only person who can cancel the policy is the agent himself.... this is incredibly poor business practice. After I get off the phone I send the agent an email telling him to cancel the policy (again). I receive a response the next day and he says he must have something in writing to cancel (why this was never mentioned over the phone is beyond me)... I return the email and again tell him to cancel the policy. We are now due over $400 from this company, plus an over draft fee from the bank. It's a week before Thanksgiving and now our plans have to be cancelled. I will never consider State Farm for insurance ever again. read more
