From having a 5 min healthy discussion on preferences of wing-tip sirloin and ribs of beef I was given a sneeky peep round the back. These guys provide the beef for the best steak places in Glasgow. I'd eaten at one of them earlier in the week and my eyes were bulging at the trays of chateaubriands and rib in sirloins. So, as you'd expect, their meat is very well sourced and as good as you're going to get anywhere. I took a1kg 1rib Angus and pan roasted it in butter and wilted rosemary to get a good sear, then a quick 15 mins in the oven. I had it sat on some roasted beetroot puree with a port, wine and fresh beef stock reduction and the beef was some of the best I've ever eaten. Superb quality and ageing. Week after I wanted a lamb rump as I had the hunger for some dauphinoise. They were happy just to prep some up straight away, no fuss. The lamb was delicious........as was the dauph ;) ........and the sausages. Get the Italian fennel ones and slow cook cook them in your tomato sauce for pasta. Very, very impressive. Prices are as you'd expect for meat of this quality. Look on the window for weekly £10 deals. Steak and chicken. Well worth it.

The best thing about this butchers is the value for money. Not only are you sold superior goods, but at normal prices - why would you buy meat elsewhere? As you move up the quality of the meat the price remains very good value for money as it moves up with the quality and this is what makes this place so popular. I would never have previously considered myself a huge cheesecake fan but this shop has changed all…read morethat. I think since it's opened I have had more cheesecake than I had previously had in my whole life! While it is quite a small shop in Bathgate, Artisan Cheesecake are slowly but surely building up a presence and beginning to stock local restuarants and cafes too. The shop in Bathgate has daily specials and even have a themed Tuesday (CHina Tuesday) where you can pop in and enjoy a slice and cuppa in a dainty china cup. The portion sizes are more than generous and the 'sharing cheesecakes' are genuinely in need of sharing (Unlike those 'sharing bags' of sweets you get these days!). They also offer cheesecake milkshakes where they blitz a slice of your choice into a milkshake but I am yet to venture into drinking my cheesecake (My waistline is already cursing my newfound taste for the solid ones!). The cheesecakes themselves are not cheap but you pay for what you get and these couldn't be futher removed from the foamy synthetic cheesecake you buy from supermakets or cheap cafes and the proof really is in the tasting. They are very good at their social media and post photos of their specials on Facebook and Twitter on a daily basis. They alse take orders (I know what my birthday 'cake' will be this year!).
