After MONTHS of not getting a call, I just showed up to book it in person. When I walked in the door there was NO ONE in the waiting room; TWO girls at the front desk and NEITHER were on a phone call. I pulled my calendar out and waited. The girl asked me if she could help me and I told her what I needed and BOOM. Just like that, I had an appointment. WHY DID I HAVE TO DRIVE 35 MINUTES ONE-WAY TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN??? The window for recovery post-stroke is 12 months max. By the time I got in I was almost at that "cut-off" point. No one ever did find me a speech therapist and this has been almost two years ago now. Let me tell you the one 'good thing' they managed to get right. They have no issue whatsoever in letting you know that you owe less than $50 total to two different offices (not THEIRS) and "did you want to pay that today or wait for the bill to come in the mail"? IF THAT'S AN OPTION THEN WHY ARE YOU PLAYING DEBT COLLECTOR??? If she had bothered to look at the dates of service I had just had those appointments and hadn't even gotten the bills in the mail yet! Not to mention screw my right to privacy because these conversations are held at the front desk where patients are coming and going or the person next to them is on the phone, or there's someone standing there waiting to check in or check out. Now let's talk about how someone with 9/11 Sickness and tells everyone that upfront so that appropriate actions can be made like, oh, I dunno, maybe NOT booking me for a 15-minute follow-up with there is no way in hell that will be enough time to go over everything AND for me to ask questions! Yonker would come in and give her schpeel and I was supposed to be okay with that as she walked backward out of the exam room while I was talking because all of the billable time had been used up for her to tell me what she thought I needed to know. If you're hard up and have nowhere else to go then by all means. Otherwise, make the drive and go somewhere else like Lewes or Cambridge. Almost every single time I have to fire a medical person 99% of the time it isn't because of them but because of their staff! Stop thinking your staff walks on water and never makes any mistakes! But in this instance, it was both! ------------------------------------------- This is the first of many first-hand experience reviews I will be posting today. I kept things to myself for years practicing grace and forgiveness. But since AGH thinks they do no wrong, admit to no failures, and never apologize let alone take corrective actions... it's time the public knows that all that glitters is not gold!

Let me just say, Dr. C is an old-fashioned kind of doctor. He didn't have a nurse to assist him, he actually comes out to the waiting room to get his own patients. He doesn't take credit cards, only cash or check. He took vital signs himself. As a nurse myself, I can assure you that this is a rare find. Really. He actually took the time to talk AND listen to me, gave me some samples of medication, and ordered a MRI. I really did get the impression that he cared about the outcome, not that I was just another insurance claim for him to file. If you need a neurologist who actually has a personality and isn't bogged down in corporate medicine, this is your guy!

In order to get an appointment, I had to send my MRI and sit through an interview, all of which would be reviewed by the doctor and he would then determine if I was a candidate for surgery. His office called and granted me this appointment. I waited, in pain, with apprehension for 6 wks. I made plans around potential surgery and manifested hope that this long journey was about to be over. On the day of the appt I arrived to find that Dr. Malik was not there and I would be seeing a PA. She asked me 3 questions regarding pain level, narcotics use and tingling fingers. She looked at my MRI, turned around and said "We recommend Physical Therapy". I explained again that I had tried everything. She said "Well, I guess on increase your narcotics". I was under the impression that the long process to get in was to weed out the people that could not be helped by neurosurgery. I believed that being granted the appointment, I had made the cut. My Nurse Practitioner is fully capable of making a referral to PT but she's fully aware of all the modalities of treatment that I have undergone. After a tearful drive home, the PA called with a message from Dr. Malik suggesting that I look into pain management and get some epidural shots "or something". I expressed my dissatisfaction loudly and clearly at that time. I had been defrauded and had my time and Resourses wasted for what I assume would be a large bill to my insurance company which they will not pay. The doctor has yet to call me to get to the bottom of my displeasure. I've not laid eyes on him or heard his voice. This afternoon I got a call from his scheduling department wanting to schedule a follow up appt. Follow up for what?? So you are suggesting that I waste another day of work and another 2 hour drive for another expensive appt to see another unqualified PA so she can say How's it going? Still hurt? Thanks for coming in. Once again, I expressed my displeasure loud and clear and was met with confusion. The scheduling person said I will pass this on to the PA. No!!!! Pass it on to the neurologist whose name will undoubtably be at the top of my bill. And while you're at send a message to accounts payable that I will not be paying for services I didn't receive. And still no call from Malik. Bottom line...No on this doctor! No! No! No!
