Hey ladies, if, like me, you find a hard time having to make a U-turn almost at the end of…read moreKatipunan Avenue just to get to Laybare for a wax, your problems have been solved! Hey Sugar! is a newly opened Waxing Salon at the ground floor of UP Town Center's mall that offers not only waxing services for both men and women, but also threading and eyelash extension. Although more expensive than the more popular waxing salon at the other side of Katipunan Avenue, the experience was definitely better. I availed of a hot waxing service for my legs because they had a 30% off on Hot Wax Services promo and I read somewhere that hot waxing is a better though more expensive option than cold waxing. I was reluctant to try hot wax at first, but my waxer was very reassuring. She even adjusted the heat level of my wax when I found it too hot at first application. After a while, I got the hang of it. My waxer was nice and courteous, and normally I don't like conversing while I'm getting waxed, but I loved speaking with her. The only regret I have was that I neglected to ask her for her name. When I go back, I'll find out for sure! As for the waxing service, you really have to set aside time when getting a wax. If you're looking for quick service, better try cold wax or cheaper waxing salons because Hey Sugar! values quality. My wax was 30 minutes long because my waxer made sure not a single strand of hair was left on my legs (I availed of the half-leg service). She even applied cold wax after the hot wax for the stubborn strands, and afterwards, a threading technique to take out the really tiny strands. I also love how it's All-Natural and All-Organic sugar wax that they use. Hooray for sustainable living!

According to my friends and all the reviews I've read about it, it will hurt. Like seriously. With that in mind, I braced myself for the worst. And here's my verdict - it. did. hurt. like. hell. But it was also worth it. And it helped a lot that Lay Bare was a place with non-intimidating vibes especially for noobs like me. It was clean and the staff were courteous. Big thumbs up also to my wax lady, Ate Jacq, as she was so chill and gentle and understanding about all the quirks I had about the whole process, it being my first time and everything. In hindsight, the experience was really good and I can't help but be grateful for that, aside from the fact that their services are affordable. Good job, Lay Bare! The only downside is that they don't have a branch in Cebu yet and I'm going home next year. Waaah! Come to Cebu already!

Getting a wax is, to me, one of the things I /need/ to feel secure about. After reading reviews online, all sources point to Lay Bare Katipunan as the most credible waxing salon. And yes, I'm here to testify that their service is fast, efficient, and clean. They also make use of cold wax so it doesn't hurt as much as hot wax does. The waxing ladies are also courteous and amiable, and they don't even initiate embarrassing conversations with you as you get your wax. Plus, there's hardly any line! So for those ladies who are absolutely terrified of haphazardly performed waxing service, or of the pain of hair removal, Lay Bare is definitely the place for you!

I love the product they used coz it smelled chocolatey but minty so it still has that spa element. Adel was so gentle with me and did a fabulous job. Nothing hurt compared to some people who have heavy hands and scrub your skin to death or nip at your toes like they mean murder. Next was the eyebrow threading and waxing (legs and lady parts) and Lynn was the girl assigned to me. I was expecting the brazilian wax to hurt, but amazingly this one didn't hurt as much coz maybe we were chatting away and she tackled big areas at a time (only two pulls inside, per side) compared to little strips I was used to at other places. It also helped that she put a hot and cold compress before and after each pull. Oh, the music they play was nice too! Overall good experience as a first time customer :)

The sugaring process wasn't only bearable; it actually felt soothing enough to lull me to sleep! But you know what the best thing about Barenaked was? I went there in the most terrible mood, and left with a dopey smile on my face; the staff are not only efficient, they are also the most charming and pleasant people I've ever met.

The staff is very friendly, and some are even fun to talk to, to avoid awkward waxing sessions every now and then. They also sell beauty products in packages (I have not tried anything yet, but their armpit soap to avoid sweating sounds great!), and they offer discount cars, so take note of that when you return for succeeding visits.

It first opened in 2012, and I've been frequenting the place at least on a monthly basis since then. What caught my eye was their "organic" theme -- from their hot and cold waxes to their Zoya nail polish -- none of these contain harmful chemicals. I liked the sound of that. This place also offers threading services. I've become friendly with the receptionist/manager (hi Jel!) and the therapists are always kind and pleasant. While those were great to use, I really didn't like how time consuming it was when I can get it done professionnally so I checked out Lay Bare. I've been frequenting their salon for the full leg waxing, underarm waxing and eyebrow threading. The whole process takes only under 30 minutes and it's virtually pain free. The salon uses sugar waxing which barely leaves any sticky residue after the procedure is over. Also, I like that it also doubles as an exfoliant so my legs are a lot smoother without the bumps. In as much as I like their services, I'll base this review on my last appointment with them which I didn't really like so much. On my previous visits, it was Pangz who worked the sugar and I'm very happy with her work. However, this time, another waxing technician did my usual waxing routine. The removal was pretty fast, although she did miss a few spots which I was not happy with. I visited around closing time as I did not have any other time to go and was leaving for a trip the day after. I even asked if I can have my eyebrows threaded, and the technician only responded with "Your eyebrows are still ok." I felt that she already wanted to wrap up the session so she could go home by telling me my eyebrows did not need any maintenance yet. It's not like the whole thing took 30 minutes, in fact, it only took 20! I would have tipped generously, but sensing how eager she was to go home, I didn't tip my usual. So ladies, if you want to try out Lay Bare, go ahead but make an appointment so you can pick your favorite wax technician. Will definitely go back, but will stick to my usual waxing lady.

Like, it's located in the same building as Drew's, where I spent a lot of freshman school nights puking on a bucket. But I will just throw caution to the wind and declare a disclaimer that there will be possible graphic or just plain repulsive details about my body hair. Tread lightly. PROS: So, I'm a hairy person. And since the social construct that women should be hairless (from the neck down) exists - and I conform pathetically - I've been getting my legs, armpits, eyebrows, and vulva waxed/threaded for years now. It has always been here at this Lay Bare branch ever since and I have always been consistently satisfied; I like how nonchalant and professional the staff are about the whole removing hair business. No body-shaming or unsolicited comments; Before-, during-, and after-care guidelines are issued, making sure that your skin health is covered. They even offer supplementary products like soothing and exfoliating creams; They have packages and promos that could get you a few hundreds off the price of your session. CONS: The technicians are efficient in getting rid of unwanted body hair, but they can't do anything about the pain because it depends on your pain tolerance. And I think I'm on the super sensitive end of that spectrum, as I am what is called "every-session-is-a-first-time" customer as if my body never learned how to deal with the pain. It may have something to do how well-rooted my hair follicles are. Especially on my crotch, oh gosh, the pain. #tiisganda TL;DR: Not exactly painless, relaxing, or fun but if you need a decently-priced place to get the job done well, I would recommend Lay Bare. It may hurt like hell, but I love the feeling of smoothness for weeks.

For some, recognizing when a remark is sarcastic depends on how well the other person can work those brows. Brow Haus, a brow and lash grooming salon, knows this all too well, which is why they have posters showing the "before" and "after" stages of neatly trimmed eyebrows. I used to look at these posters all the time, but I never really appreciated what they were promoting until I reaped the benefits myself. After I had my eyebrows threaded at Brow Haus, most of my friends noticed the change even if they weren't quite sure what to attribute it to. Trimming my bushy eyebrows lent a more symmetric appearance to my eyes, made me look and feel more confident in the way I carried myself. Thankfully, the staff are very kind and perform their work quickly, usually 5 minutes tops whenever I request for Classic Threading (P580). Grooming eyebrows may seem like a subtle adjustment, but it goes a long way in emphasizing the eyes and approaching the specific look that I'm going for. Because I'm not fond of applying make-up in casual everyday situations, I appreciate how Brow Haus makes my eyebrows look effortlessly neat and fixed even if I just got up from bed. It's a lovely kind of magic.

All of the employees have been working here for a very long time; I literally grew up with all these sassy yet kind ladies, who are also incredibly fast, precise and amazing multi-taskers. They've primped and dolled up tons of Makati's socialites. They will do your hair, do your nails, and wax you all at the same time. And they'll do it well. You may want to bring your own nail polish there though, as their polish arsenal isn't diverse nor updated, though they've got the basics covered. While she was getting her hair done, they did her pedi (Judy) and mani (Joy)(750php) at the same time while waiting for the color to set. Many places in the PI do not have professional massage chairs for people to get a mani/pedi like in the States. I wonder why? They like to do all at once and go to where you are to get the job done quicker maybe? I had my hair treated (2800php) for long hair because my hair was getting dry due to the Philippines water. Tess massaged my head, back & shoulders, had my hair washed and curled for my hair treatment service. It turned out great. I also had them change the color of my feet and hand nails for 150 php ea pair; not bad by Beth. Thank goodness they had a big selection of good nail polishes but still limited to the colors I really wanted...but still! The nail polishes were not old! I also had an underarm wax (450php) by Eryl which she used the new gel type wax that smells like wheat. It didn't hurt at all but it takes a few times to finish vs a honey wax. I prefer the honey wax better for some reason as it also lifts the color of your underarms. All in all, if you are looking for great services and options, this is the place to go! I was then pleasantly greeted by senior stylist Roland, who sat me in the chair and started chatting with me about why I was looking for a bangs trim. He began combing through my hair with his fingers, expertly analyzing the cut and the layers. I knew right then that he was no slouch--that he could make my cut much better. And voilà! He asked if I'd consider some shaping instead, as the rate was the same. Honestly, the price was secondary to me. I was already impressed with the way Roland handled my hair while analyzing it. So the answer was "Yes." I love that there was a different person who shampooed my hair--the massage was amazing. I sadly forgot her name. She has been at this location for 10 years. I want to emphasize that her role is serving as a partner to Roland. She preps clients like me.
