What a wonderful and challenging 18 hole track. As others have said don't be fooled by what seems…read moreto be by the benign appearance of some of these holes. If you are not playing with a member (course knowledge) you are scarewed (sic). The greens are pool table fast and if you are on the wrong side of the hole a 3 putt comes into play. The course was in fabulous shape when I played in late July. The rough was up so a missed fairway equaled a tough shot to fast greens. I shot above my handicap but I thoroughly enjoyed my round.

Just spent five, count 'em, consecutive five days playing in a tournament at RCC and yes, I am still very impressed. This place is in great shape, well kept and is one of those courses you can play every single day and still never be bored. Seriously. The food seems to have improved. It was pretty good before but now it is actually very good. 04/22/2010 The 18-hole "Rutland" course at the Rutland Country Club facility in Rutland, Vermont features 6,134 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 70 . The course rating is 69.7 and it has a slope rating of 125 on Bent grass. Designed by Styles & VanCleef, the Rutland golf course opened in 1901. Greg Nelson manages the course as the General Manager. Okay, enough of what you can read online. This course might seem innocent enough but don't get fooled. Much like the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog this track will do more than "nibble your bum." The greens are usually lightening fast and replete with subtle breaks that can turn what might seem like an easy par into a vicious four putt. Beware the two-tiered green of the 13th hole, a long par 5. If you leave yourself a putt from above the hole you are, as they say, screwed. Generally the course is in impeccable condition. The course pro is super-nice. Snack bar at the turn features a decent selection of refreshing beverages and sandwiches / snacks. The food in the newly revamped clubhouse is very good and the bartenders are excellent. The only downside? No driving range and the men's locker room should be gutted. But for a great time and a fantastic golf experience give it a shot. Oh yeah, while the place is semi-private the members are great. No stuffiness here. Just good people, great golf and the occasional game of wolf.

The Pro Shop has a homey, farm-esque feel to it. We checked in at 8:30 for a 9:10 tee time and were told, for the first time, that we had to be off the course at 1:00 for a shotgun start tournament. On a busy Saturday, that would be a stretch. "Driving range" was just a few grass mats where you hit balls off a cliff; interesting. Course was nice, needed a little water. And the rough was deep. I'm not sure if this on purpose or a lack of maintenance. Course had nice views. Very hilly, some blind shots, but not as many as Killington. It was very tough to figure out how to get to the next hole, we had to turn around a few times. After we finished the round, we wanted to check out the bar and maybe grab a bite to eat. However, there is no bar or restaurant. Just a snack window, though it appears the food they were producing was high quality. Overall, for $120, I'd rather go to Green Mountain. Though, Fox Run is still be best course "around" - hands down.
