Get this. The YMCA is located on Cemetery Street and there is a cemetery right across the street from the Y. You can't make this stuff up. Highlights - Large wellness center (gym) with updated equipment - Lots of treadmills, ellipticals, and weights which is all I know how to use - Lots of other equipment I have no idea how to work - Indoor pool - Basketball court - Racket ball - Training room (where meat heads lift tractor tires and climb ropes) - Outdoor track and a small indoor track - Locker rooms - Variety of workout classes you can sign up for (included in your membership) - Child care and after school care - Very friendly folks working here - Your Y membership now gets you in to Ys across the country Basically the difference between the Y and gyms is you get a lot more services at the Y. read more

Family is the key word here. Everything revolves around family. Now understand that means there are kids here most of the time. That bothers some people so you just have to pick times to work out that best suit YOU. The staff is friendly and the facilities are modern and the building is clean. They have a walking track above the basketball courts so if that is your thing, you are good to go. Snack and drink machine are stocked with HEALTHY snacks and drinks. Racketball courts and a nice pool round out their facilities. They have specialty classes for exercise, yoga, or Zumba. This doesn't include everything but you get the general idea. A newly refurbished track is outside with soccer fields a plenty. Family dues are $75 per month which comes out to $2 and change a day. Still one of the best bargains going. I love the Davie Y. There is truly a family atmosphere here. Instructors are top quality, there is obviously strong leadership, and the facility is up to date and always clean. read more

Wish there were opportunities for actual "family fitness". My daughter has practiced yoga for years & she isn't allowed in classes - even though you stay on your own mat, she's not in the "way". Can't include my children in any group classes (even if we stay in the very back) There's no youth fitness options. They used to be allowed in the fitness center on machines next to me (I never took them at peak times). There's only open swim limited times. Why is this a "family gym" when there are no family options? Plus, we pay additional fees to attend any "other" child activities. read more

Then we went inside and saw Guinea pigs, rabbits, and a lizard! Phenomenal educational opportunity!! You do need a reservation for the animal tours and they have summer camp so call Ahead to make sure it's available. Parking is in the lot.

There's been a lot of talk about Trosa Thrift store around town lately. I've seen it all over…read moresocial media so a friend and I decided to check it out on a Friday afternoon. Trosa is located on Peters Creek Hwy in the Food Lion strip center at the Clemmonsville exit. It's easy to get to and there's plenty of parking which I love. Right inside the door is their whole furniture section, they have tons of tables, chairs, dressers , etc. they even have a whole section of office specific furniture. The prices are very reasonable. This would be a furniture flippers paradise. Towards the back they have shelves of everything from pillows to whole sets of dishes, sports equipment and the most medical mobility equipment I've ever seen anywhere. I'd say, if you are in need of a walker, a bath seat or portable toilet for someone look here because they probably have it at a fraction of the cost it would be to purchase new or rent. The clothing is grouped all together but they aren't keeping it organized as well as it needs to be. All different sizes were mixed in together and I quickly got frustrated and gave up. Both of us had found an item in the kitchen area we wanted so we headed to check out. The workers were very friendly as well. I'll definitely be checking out Trosa regularly in the future. Trosa supports substance abuse treatment. If you want to donate to them, they offer pick up for larger items or you can bring your items to their donation drop off around the back of the store. Just follow the signs.

I've been to a shower at the Love's Travel Stop - it's the same sort of thing here. Close and lock the door behind you and you have a private space with toilet, sink and shower. Our home was tidy, but our previous (nationally franchised) maid service seemed to be getting less thorough with each session so the deep clean gave us peace of mind and a great reset. Lucy was wonderful with scheduling us for a time that worked for my family, and we appreciated her flexibility! Yesterday was our deep clean and OH BOY did her team go above and beyond. Lucy and her associate arrived on-time, fully stocked with cleaning products, and great spirits. They spent over five hours in my home scrubbing things until they sparkled. They cleaned items never touched by my old service including ceiling fans and under the couches. Additionally, they were able to remove stains on my walls that I had given up on. The kitchen and 2 1/2 bathrooms have never looked better! Sinks and appliances look brand new despite being almost ten years old. We are very grateful for Lucy and have already set up to be recurring customers. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Give her a chance and skip the national franchises.
