Using both photos and video, he showed me the repairs I needed to my filter system, and made the repairs right away. After much testing, it later became clear that I have a small leak in the pool that occurs when the pump is running. I found Roe on Yelp when I moved into my new home and was looking for pool maintenance. Roe was very pleasant and professional to talk to on the phone and was able to fit me in right away. While he explained that he was unable to do regular weekly maintenance due to my location, he came out and did a one time cleaning for me. Can I tell you how detailed he was! I found Roe's information when one of my neighbors recommended him on the Nextdoor app. I contacted him for an estimate on pool service and he was at my house the same day. We had a broken timer and pool water that looked ok but (according to Leslie's) the chemicals were all out of whack. I explained I needed the timer repaired or replaced and an estimate on regular pool service. He took about 25 minutes to look things over and gave me three separate quotes: (1) for the initial work needed to get my pool water fixed (2) for the cost of replacing the timer & (3) for the cost of his ongoing regular service. Because the cost of that initial service was higher than the monthly maintenance (not unreasonable since I knew the water needed work) AND I needed to replace the timer, I explained I'd wait on the service agreement until I got paid again. Roe told me that he wanted my business and made arrangements for me to begin service immediately rather than waiting. That is great customer service! He also explained that my filter will need to be replaced relatively soon (showing me exactly what he meant) but didn't try to force me into spending that money yet. He has been cleaning my pool for almost two months now and is always here when he says he will be or checks with me in advance if he needs to switch service days. I have been waiting for a response before posting a review because I hoped against hope that he would be able to, at the very least, inform me of what likely happened and what I should do. I did not want to post a negative review. This is the first time I have used this service, and against my better judgment, I wasn't home when the filter was cleaned. I will never do this again, at least when it involves someone I have no experience with. On the plus side, he tried to be accommodating, actually was too busy to come for our appointment and I was out of his area, so he kept advising me to get someone else. But he was more "affordable" than all but one of the others listed except Elite, who was too unreliable to use and did not keep two of our appointments, and Davis did get such good reviews. And I was late getting the filter cleaned this year because my former pool service provider retired. Davis seemed to find something the last pool company did wrong and said he spent way more time here than he should have because of that with no extra charge. Another good thing is that the pressure was as low as it has ever been, so it seemed as though he had done a really good cleaning. He also seemed like a very nice fellow. Here's the problem: A few days later I had to let air out of the pressure gauge, and what came out was a spray of water filled with DE, not clean water at all. I've had this pool since 1984, and this has never happened to me. Either I myself or a pool company has cleaned the filter annually. So I did not know what it meant or what I should do about it. I contacted Davis through Yelp. In response, I got a long rambling defensive phone message, a lot of which I could not make out. It seemed he assumed I was accusing him of not actually cleaning the filter. He said he sent me a video or photo of what he did, but I never received it, and that wasn't the point at all. I was not accusing him of anything. I was reaching out for help. I contacted him again asking him to tell me why he thinks this happened and what can be done about it, hoping he would come back out to check on it. But he declined to answer me at all. It has been two weeks, so I must assume he has no intention of taking any sort of responsibility for something that was fine before the cleaning but malfunctioned afterwards. For all I know, this will eventually resolve on its own. I have no idea. But when I needed his advice, I got nothing. So I am disappointed, to say the least. I should at least get an explanation of some sort. I don't think that is an unreasonable expectation. Even though Yelp lists him for Houston and surrounding areas, he really only wants to serve the Katy area. So it's best to pass if you live in Houston. read more

We have a pool and I know next to nothing about how to maintain it, so I looked on Yelp and found Davis Affordable Pool Cleaning Service; I thought I'd give this company a shot based on all of the positive reviews. I contacted Mr. Davis on a Friday and he agreed to come out the following day. He and his associate, Nick, arrived promptly at the agreed upon time and showed us how to operate the pool equipment, re-calibrated the mechanical timers, and educated us about cleaning and chemically treating the pool water. Also, there was water surrounding the pump, so Mr. Davis inspected the equipment to determine the source of the leak (he said it was likely emanating from the gasket seal), but it hasn't leaked since so it's unclear to me what caused the leak. My wife and I felt like the tutorial was rushed (we were allotted 1 hour) and we felt like Mr. Davis was difficult to understand. For $211.08 I expected to learn more, and honestly, I probably would have been better off watching YouTube videos or scouring the internet. Mr. Davis told me I could contact him anytime should we have follow up questions or issues. Lastly, we installed a safety net over our pool, and Mr. Davis said that most pool companies would not service the pool for liability reasons. In short, this company may be good at cleaning and servicing pools without safety nets, but when it comes to educating clients and the DIY-set, you're probably better served looking elsewhere. read more

Roe Davis was one of a few pool people I called when moving into a new house with a pool. He was the only guy to call me back in a timely manner. I told him that I'd like him to come by and give me some pointers on pool maintenance and he told me he'd be available the next day. I booked him right then, and he charged me a reasonable price to swing by and coach me in 'pool school' as he likes to call it. He spent over an hour with me going through all the parts of my pump, filter, skimmers, etc. He also took time to check my pool chemistry and give me all the pointers for maintaining my pool correctly. He even added some chemicals to balance my water at no charge. He recommended some specific cleaning tools for me purchase online, and I did so within a couple of days. When my new tools arrived, I needed another attachment to make it work with my configuration. I went to Leslie's to no avail for the part, and decided to call Roe. He promptly told me he'd find me the part. The next morning he texted and told me he found the part. Then without asking, he said he's swing by and drop it off for me. What service!! To my surprise, he said it was a gift (even though I know the part retails for around $20). I told him I could paypal him for the cost and he said not to worry about it, I was astounded, and very happy with his politeness and service. About a week later, I had a couple of issues with my cleaner not working, and called Roe. He called me back within an hour and coached me through some of the troubleshooting things to look for and I found the problem and sorted it out with his suggestions. My pool is now in excellent shape, and water is within all perfect ranges for all chemicals. Roe WILL be the first person I call if I ever have a problem or question going forward. Mr Davis came to my home to clean my in ground spa. He acid washed the spa and worked very hard to get the plaster clean. When he finished the spa was sparkling and looked terrific. He asked me to take a water sample to the pool supply and came back the following day with the necessary chemicals to balance the water in my spa!
