Details below First, about me: 1) My hair is straight and notably thick for fine hair. 2) This was my 1st time trying a salon that isn't like $65+/ women's cut. I have taken my probable bias into account while creating this review. I saw Niki (spelling = ?) for a women's haircut. I wanted to trim off several inches to armpit-ish length + soften the edges. Haircut was good. I must mention I witnessed the 2 present hairdressers complaining *in front of clients* about the lack of stylists in the area to hire, and they joked - for a duration that has me convinced it *totally wasn't* a joke - that they'd hire anyone who claims to be a hairstylist just as long as they knew basic color theory. Yikes. So obvs that's big turnoff to a new client + worth mentioning, but the experience was just unsatisfactory overall. Here's the deal. I've talked to so many bubbly hairdressers who are passionate about their work. And I get that a salon is like a family. That's great! But if I'm your family's dinner guest, I expect the host to introduce themself/-selves, maybe offer water/beverage, check in about water temperature, ask about myself, keep conversations with family co-hosts positive and professional, speak of your family to guests with dignity, and, idk, help me feel welcomed throughout? Cool. These expectations - though some were possibly too much - weren't met at Parkway Salon. Nor were some other basic things I'd expect- like an atmosphere where I'm comfortable speaking up or asking for clarification, for a heavy-handed hairdresser to look in my general direction while brushing, for hairdressers to be positive but maybe not carelessly dancing while snipping away, to be asked if I want a receipt, and maybe even to be asked if I want to schedule a next appointment. I could tell Niki was trying to be nice at the beginning and at the very end, though. And, again, I still like my haircut. Maybe the negative atmosphere was from the other client present, or maybe mornings are just rough here.

Joel answered the phone and told me they use Goldwell products; (one of the best but more expensive products), so I made an appointment. With thick, curly hair, Joel cut, colored, and styled my hair professionally and expertly, all for much less than I was used to paying. I've been going to Joel at Hello Gorgeous for 8 years now and hope never to have to break in another hairstylist for the rest of my life! Long live Joel!!

The chairs creak ominously, and the mirrors are cracked, as if every customer had a moment of horror so profound they shattered the glass. The smell? A pungent blend of burnt hair, stale coffee, and despair. The staff... oh, the staff. They seem to have been handpicked for their lack of barbering skills. My barber (whose name tag simply said "Oops") wielded scissors like a toddler with safety shears. They confidently started shaving the middle of my head first, muttering something about "starting with the soul patch of the scalp." Their tools are relics from another century. The clippers sparked mid-use, and the scissors were so dull they seemed to tear rather than cut. I swear I saw one barber using a butter knife to shape a beard. The results? Let's just say I left looking like an abstract art installation. My "fade" was more of a "free fall," and my sideburns were two completely different lengths--one ended at my ear, the other somewhere near my chin. To top it off, they charged me extra for the "premium experience," which I assume was the complimentary spray of expired cologne that left me smelling like a musty basement. Would I go back?
