He ended up recommending the LiftMaster 8550 with battery backup, keyless entry, and smartphone control. Turns out this is the very same garage door opener Steve has on his home--which was a good sign. We scheduled Steve to come over the next day and install my new LiftMaster. I was really happy he was available to come over so quickly. I'm used to having to schedule service calls or appointments for my home a week out. Steve showed up at the promised time the next day and got right to work. Turns out he's has been installing and repairing garage doors for over 45 years! It's rare to find people with such a wealth of expertise, but Steve's got it. I suspect he's been working on garage doors for so long that he's probably gotten more about garage doors than most other professionals ever learned. With the installation finished I helped Steve clean-up and we tested it out. My new LiftMaster 8550 looked great and functioned perfectly. I'm really happy with it because it's much, much quieter than my older chain-driven Genie, more responsive when controlled via remote, and the iPhone app is pretty cool too. It's also worth mentioning that I priced out this same LiftMaster 8550 package with another company and they $200 more expensive! After some negotiation they offered me $100 off, but that was still more than $100 more than Steve's price. I really appreciate that Steve didn't try to gouge me and quoted me a fair price. We chose Legacy because it is a local, independent business and he did a wonderful job on our first project, a storage shed for our backyard. The price he quoted was reasonable and fair. The final price was close to the original quote. However, the project took twice as long to complete. Nevertheless, as we saw the progress of the project and the high quality of work being done, we became less concerned about the timeline of completion. We are extremely pleased with the aesthetics of our new living space. More importantly, we watched the construction of Michael's work. He was cognitive of cost, yet he never compromised on the quality and workmanship. Shortly after the job was completed, we had our HVAC technician come in to clean our furnance. The firt thing he said was, "Wow, what a beautiful floor!" Everyone that walks into our basement mentions how beautiful everything turned out. The bathroom with a full size walk-in shower looks far more expensive than it actually cost. We are extremetly pleased with Legacy Doors and More and the subcontractors that Michael hired for the plumbing and electrical work.

Okko at Canyon Overhead doors was very helpful, and was able to find the color and design we wanted, at a very competitive price. We opted for a higher quality door from Martin, and they are very nice. Canyon delivered and installed the doors on schedule. The new openers from LiftMaster are really nice, much quieter than the old chain drive units we had. The wifi capability and improved lights are also a nice touch. We had a small issue with the new seal, but Mike came out the next day and had it all repaired and looking beautiful. It's great to see someone committed to getting the job done right. I expect these doors will last many years, but if we have a need for garage doors in the future, Canyon will be the first firm we call.
