I had the braised pork cheeks with chicory: it was served in its own little pot that kept it piping hot.

In perusing the menu, I saw the prices. Uuuf! A Niçoise salad was about 27 Euros. So I skipped ordering it. We started with delicious bread and butter. I ordered an artichoke that comes with a mustard dip. My friend ordered pasta puttanesca. The food took a while to arrive. The pasta is supposed to come with anchovies but the sauce is the one that had the flavor of the anchovies. That misunderstanding disappointed him. I loved the artichoke. It takes a while to eat it. We didn't order dessert.

It makes you feel well attended, to an extend that you forget how complicated running a restaurant is. It feels like natural smoothness. The space is grand and kind of a historical site. It has been serving food and spirits to the Antwerp community for a while. And that translates into a very present charm. And the food is great. All classic Belgium dishes are cooked here, and in an excellent way. As a visitor, it was a great way to be familiar to what Antwerp has been in the past, and how that keeps being part of its cultural ecosystem.

I went for the lunch menu and totally loved being able to watch all the food be made, made me very excited to eat it seeing all the care that went into each individual dish. Everything was exceptionally fresh. All of the staff was very friendly and very attentive, we never went without water or bread and had opportunities to ask questions, we were treated very well (we were wearing very casual street clothes as it was quite hot in Antwerp at the time) and exactly like everyone else (they were some pretty fancy people there :D). We thoroughly enjoyed speaking with the chefs who you could tell very much loved their work. I would totally visit again!

If you read my other reviews, you know that I like to dwell and write long reviews but for The Jane I can be short and sweet: GEWELDIG MAGNIFIQUE THE BEST FOODIE EXPERIENCE EVER!! I've been to the Upper Room Bar and the actual restaurant when I was living in Belgium and this it the total experience: from the awesome atmosphere to the great service over the amazing soap (Aesop) they provide you in the bathroom. And yes, it was consistently at that level! Oh, I almost forgot, the food is TO DIE FOR, it is a real treat! A must visit for every food lover in the universe.
