She is very friendly and chatty, to say the least - and she always remembers a face, which adds an even more personal touch. :o) The food is of an excellent standard and the service is good. The staff are very efficient and helpful - and nothing is too much trouble. This is a great place for a party or celebration. There are a good selection of drinks, but they are not necessarily cheap. Toilet facilities are generally clean and well stocked. They do a take-away service too, with a discounted price - I often like to do this, as the food is of excellent quality and you feel like you are eating restaurant food, in the comfort of your own home.

Full dim sum menu, with some Sichuan and even some Macau dishes. It's attached to a large Asian food market. Very 1930's Hong Kong style. They have brisk service (authentically Cantonese) do you will need to be firm when ordering, particularly on Sundays. They have a wonderful busy, bustling atmosphere especially on weekends. I got salt and pepper squid tentacles at £7.90.. to be fair it was the only one we considered worth the money because the squid was nice and soft and you got a nice crisp from the thin coating on the outside, it tasted really nice but it was a little dry because it came with no dipping sauce or anything just to make it easier to swallow. We also ordered the ma lat beef, which tasted nice too but didn't have a kick when it said it was supposed to be spicy.. harbour king prawns which was also dry but in its defence i think it was supposed to be like that because the king prawns in it were beautifully cooked. The chicken in black bean sauce tasted nice and also the the won tons from the mixed starter to share were very good.. they did charge over £5 for a portion of bean sprouts and also the house special rice cost over £10. All in all I'd give it 3.5 stars but I though giving it three stars on here wouldn't be fair to knock their rating down. They also add on an optional 10% service charge onto your bill, so if you don't want to pay it then you have to check your bill properly, we chose to pay ours because in the end.. it was a nice evening out.

We walked up to the place, without reservations, and were seated in a lovely spot. The restaurant is instead one of the old Baths which litter the Harrogate landscape - as Harrogate is a spa town, doing brisk business during the Victorian & Edwardian era. The interior decor was an amalgam of chinese/oriental and pre-edwardian. I was so delighted to see dim sum items on the menu. I have so longed for some steamed sticky pork buns and these were among the best I've ever had. The waiters bring out a little hotplate to the table and place your food there, so you can serve yourself. The food is kept at an optimal temperature while you share your food with your dining companion. I felt like I was back at Jade Dynasty in Toronto - one of the many places where you don't see a white-face amongst all the chinese patrons. The food was so delicious, the seasoning perfect, and there was just enough to get me full without feeling like I was overly stuffed. This is not a cheap place to eat, nor is it overly expensive either. If you're looking for a good place to eat for either a special occassion or romantic date, this place is perfect. It has booths, tables and a huge central round table - a la King Arthur's Round Table.

Don't listen to the few detractors who don't seem to know the first thing about Chinese food. Red Chilli is an excellent small chain of (4) restaurants in Manchester (2), Leeds (1) and York (1). I have been to all of them during my travels in England, and the consistently high quality of real, authentic Chinese food (I should know: I've been to China and was in a relationship with a Chinese woman, who also enjoyed cooking - for a number of years) distinguishes Red Chilli restaurants from most other establishments even in the nation's small Chinatown districts. Unfortunately, the equally consistently unfriendly service in no way differentiates this chain from all the other Chinese restaurants, be it in London's tourist-y Soho, or anywhere else. If you are traveling /eating alone, like I usually do, expect to be treated like a pariah. Anyway, the food is good to great and entirely characteristic of the Szechuan cuisine especially. Those who complain about "no flavor" clearly either have their taste buds dimmed by decades of smoking e.g., or just do not know anything about *real* Chinese food. The spicier dishes here, especially my personal favorite (stir-fried pig intestines, or eel, with dry red chili), aren't for the squeamish. Expect repeated visits to the toilet later that night, with a burning anus to spare. Don't worry, it's totally worth it. Other recommendable dishes include stir-fried baby octopus with onions and preserved vegetables, deep-fried fish fillet in various forms, and pig-in-a-pot. I haven't had a bland or less-than-decent dish in ANY of the Red Chill restaurants. Highly recommended!

Located on Vicar Lane, Ho's Bar & Restaurant is open seven days a week, serving a mixture of Chinese and Szechuan cuisine. When entering the restaurant, there were a few promising signs. Firstly, most of the clientele were Chinese, the sounds of their beautiful language wafting through the air. This does prove a certain degree of faith in the quality of the cooking. The decor was inviting, the darkness of the room making the black and red tones seem sultry and rich. Through sheer laziness and after being lured by the value, we decided to go for the set dinner for two people. After ordering, we were swiftly presented with some appetising chicken and sweetcorn soup. The dish was very sweet, but not synthetically so, the freshness of the vegetable exuded natural sugars. On its completion, a plate of spring rolls and honey-glazed ribs arrived, accompanied with some seaweed. The spring rolls were unrecognisable from the greasy and innocuous abominations served at shoddy buffets across the country, the crunchiness of the vegetables provided a pleasant surprise. I often find eating ribs to be a messy process, resulting in dirty fingers and a lingering hunger. The example at Ho's was the inverse of this, with the large quantity of meat slipping off the bone. The seaweed was slightly too sugary, but this was a minor quibble. The main course comprised of sweet and sour pork, beef with green peppers in black bean sauce and some egg fried rice. Although we found the pork slightly chewy, the generous wedges of chargrilled pineapple were delicious. The beef dish was packed with flavour, the garlic perfectly complimenting the saltiness of the black beans. There was not a hint of greasiness in the rice, and the egg was light and fluffy. The monetary value of this feast was extraordinary. From a venue which I consider to be of genuine quality, as opposed to the copious amount of imposters crowding the high street with gloopy sauces and limp vegetables, the entire meal cost £15. I think if we had ordered our favourite dishes from the menu instead of being tempted by the convenience of the set menu, Ho's may have received even higher praise. This is a sterling excuse to revisit Ho's however, something I shall be doing expeditiously.

It is based on a side street on thornton road near to the old odeon and is quite hard to find. There are 2 floors so there is ample seating but it does still get very busy. The food is lovely which is why it does a roaring trade. They offer an 'all you can eat' menu for £8.50 at night and about £5 during the day - this is moresome as you can choose from loads and loads of dishes in the buffet and keep going back for more. Unfortunately the food is so filling you cant eat as much as you wish. They do a karaoke night on friday and saturday which becomes very busy as chinese are very good at karaoke and put the fun factor in it - if you have never been to a chinese karaoke session its worth going for that alone. The staff are lovely and friendly and everything is kept clean and tidy always.

Chinese buffet style eateries can be very hit and miss but this one has super fresh food that is costantly replaced and not just topped up. The cross section of starters and main meals are just fabulous, from prawn toast, satay sticks and hot and sour soup to delicate canto poached fish and my favourite, Schezaun king Prawn. The desert offerings are limited and not very cantonese based but I find this the same across all Chinese style buffet restaurants. With the Alhambra theatre just around the corner it's a great starting point for a nice night out!
