Kleine komedie means in English little comedy. The theatre is not very big. It is one of the first in the Netherlands, built in the 18th century on the shore of the Amstel river. First visitors included Napoleon and kind Willem I
Today, it is a much beloved local theatre with one stage. Shows can sell out very quickly, especially the oudejaarsconferences. In the oudejaarsconferences in December and January the past year is reviewed (in Dutch) with a Dutch sense of humour. I like the music performances in the theatre as the setting is very intimate. For most shows, it is good if you understand some Dutch...but there are certainly shows where you get by without knowledge of this language.
Tip:
- There is a reason why some seats are at a much lower price. Do check out your seat views before you book, or you may get disappointed.
- On the uitmarkt (in August), Kleine komedie often sells tickets at a nice discount. It makes sense to plan well ahead.
- I booked one time for a group of 10+ friends the balcony. Was fun to have our own "skybox". To book, I called with the Kleine Komedie. read more
