Warning! Stay as far away from Gerry Melton as possible. He is a smooth talking con-job…read more I'll preface this review by saying I almost never leave negative reviews, only positive ones. But hopefully this will serve as a warning for anyone Gerry attempts to swindle. There was literally not a thing that Gerry did right. The gazebo he built was way taller than we requested and looked like an RV carport and totally blocked the view of the balcony above. Several of the cedar timbers he used looked to be extras as they had large cracks. He installed a skylight per our request but installed it upside down and it leaks. He made up a lie about how he'd just found a new technique that allows him to lay shingles on the pergola even though it was almost flat. I was suspicious as I know anything less than a 3/12 pitch requires rolled roofing. We just sold the house last month and of course the roof failed inspection because his "new technique " was a bunch of BS. I reached out to him to make it right and of course he didn't respond. I paid him to prepare the ground beneath the pergola by putting down DG and pouring a footer around the pergola so I could lay pavers. The DG area was 3" below where it was supposed to be and I had to spend days chipping away 3" of footer on 8 posts to lay my pavers. Then on the outside footer, going one direction it sank in 2" in the middle over the 40' run and the other direction which was only 12' long was 8" off of center! I had to completely re-do both. Then on to the lawn. He didn't feel like removing the necessary dirt that he said he would before laying sod. Accordingly we were left with a massive unnecessary slope that he tried to spin as, "good for drainage purposes" Again, a footer that was poured that was supposed to be flush at grade over 60' sloped 6" to try to compensate for him not removing the necessary dirt. We also paid him to install sod and an irrigation system. I was out of town the day he laid the sod. I came home and what was supposed to be flat looked like a carpeted BMX track. I had to pull up every piece of sod and work through the night to remove dirt and level the ground and reinstall the sod before it died. I go to turn on the irrigation system and it turns out that he wired it wrong and it wouldn't even work. I had to hire a professional to come rewire the whole system. To add insult to injury, he didn't even cut holes in the sod for the sprinkler heads. So water was trapped and spraying under the sod. I've never seen such a series of incompetent moves. There literally was not one thing he touched that was done right. He asked to be paid in full before the work was finished so he could pay his guys. I didn't want those guys to get screwed and Gerry is very persuasive in assuring he'll take care of you, so I made the mistake of paying him. Not only was every facet of the job done wrong, but once I paid him he just quit showing up to finish the final projects we had paid for. Then he quit returning calls. By that point I was so disgusted with him and his work, I didn't even care that he still owed us over $3000 worth of projects we'd paid for. I quit trying to contact him as it was obvious he wasn't going to assume responsibility for bad work and unfulfilled work. Don't allow the good vibes, nice guy, I'll take care of you personally fool you. Until he learns to grow up and act like a responsible adult, Gerry should never be allowed to own or run a business.
