I found that this store has some thing for everyone. My husband found the play mat that he had been looking for for ages. And said that the price was really reasonable. I found a travel Boggle game for our daughter to play in the camper. This shop truly has something for everyone from the casual board game or like me, to the super-intense Magic the Gathering person like my husband. My husband said that the prices and selection were very good. He wants to come back sometime in the future. He also looked through their collection of individual cards, and found a few that he had been missing. They also have a nice area for people to be able to play games against one another. But for the last 11 years Steve and his motley crew have been changing that in this this brightly lit well stocked gaming shop. The selection here here is well varied and fairly priced. There is a nice selection of vintage pinball machine. One nice thing about this shop is if you are looking for a gift for someone but don't know the gaming field yourself - Steve has some very approachable and knowledgeable staff that are willing and able to help get what you need and want. Especially the main store manager who is sort of like Mel Brooks Character from Spaceballs - Yogurt, the wise and powerful keeper of the "up-side" of the Schwartz. He will guide you to the up-side and right side of whatever game you want to explore.

It doesn't particularly bother me that the store isn't in the most ideal location. I also don't care that the actual store is downstairs in a somewhat rundown building. Nor do I care that the place is dark, and a complete mess. Though, it would have been nice to know how the hell the place was actually organized. Where are the new comics? Back issues?! Are they all just thrown in together? Why can't I find anything? Also, why is the one and only employee ignoring the only customers in the store? Why is this employee so terribly lacking of any customer service skills that he won't say a word?! I'm standing at the counter, two feet away from him, and he still refuses to acknowledge me, when it's clear that I want to buy something. Really? 20 minutes go by, and the only employee in the store acts as if his only customers do not exist. How does this place stay in business?! Is this seriously the only comic book store in all of Dubuque? If the owner is "a recluse that is uncomfortable around others", then that's unfortunate. However, if you own a business, especially retail, you absolutely must do better than this. Or have someone else on staff that can actually do what's required to make some sales. There were two people in the store, trying to spend some money, but really weren't given the opportunity. We ended up just leaving, having not been treated with any respect, and without spending any money. And I don't think we'll be giving this place another chance. Extremely disappointing.

A couple of days later, the seller canceled my order and refunded my money without any notice or explanation. Their excuse was that they could not fulfill an out-of-state order because they could not charge sales tax. I paid shipping and sales tax on the order, and there was no notice of any restrictions on their website. Curiously, the book was no longer in stock after they canceled my order, and they ignored my communications to find a resolution. This strikes me as dishonest and a poor way to treat customers.

It's a warehouse -- it's one of the top businesses to order games from online -- so they have a lot for purchase that you don't see in the retail area. If you order when you arrive, you may be hanging around for a bit (45 minutes or so in our case) for it to be ready, though hanging out in the game room wasn't a bad time either. Their retail shelves contain several games to peruse as well as other fun bits. My kids liked the four-foot-tall, intricate dice tower that made fun sounds as the dice traveled down. They also had some nerdy stuffies that were neat to see too. And on one side of the showroom are several tables too where you could play a game. My husband came away impressed and with several games. This checked off a board game bucket list item for him!
