"This must've originally been a Woolworth's," I said to my daughter. And I was right! Debatable as to when it dates back. One gentleman said the 1920s, with a cashier commenting about the behemoth furnace dated 1911, which long since stopped working. Fast forward to the 21st century, and the store is still stocked with five-and-ten items, surprisingly reasonably priced. (We bought an LED flashlight, cocktail napkins and thread.) Media is a lovely town with a number of cute non-chain restaurants and artsy stores. Deals Variety adds to the charm.

Today's experience deserves zero stars but I'll give it two since it's my first bad experience ever at Deals in more than 20 years. I used to love Deals, it's in my home town and since it's a small locally owned business I went out of my way to buy a padded envelope for something my elderly mother wanted to mail. I got there at opening time, and I wasn't fussed when the doors weren't yet open at 9:00 a.m. I found what I needed right away and took it to the register. The woman working there (Blonde-ish hair, 40s-60s, hard to tell with her pink floral mask on) ignored me and swept the floor for at least another 5 minutes while I waited at the register. I finally asked her if she'd ring me up and got a "I'll be there in a minute." When she did arrive at the register she acted like my dollar bill had COVID-19 and the transaction wasn't worth giving up her floor sweeping. When she didn't immediately hand me a shopping bag I asked for one and said I was headed down to the other Deals location so I needed a bag. She rudely responded "they don't sell them." Huh? They don't sell what? I explained I didn't want to be accused of shoplifting so I needed a bag. She said "They don't sell them" again, and rudely explained they other location doesn't sell envelopes. I then said "What's the matter with you, you're being miserable" to which she replied with a mocking "AWWWWWWWW!" What is the matter with this woman, why is she still working at Deals and why would I want to do business there? I'm not sure I'll ever return.

Deals is an old country store located in a city. It's stocked with items that are hard to find elsewhere. It's my go to store.

This is a cute little shop with high end cards and gift items, plus the option to design your own stationary. I definitely enjoyed the eye candy, but couldn't see myself shopping here often -- maybe more for inspiration or a special occasion, since their cards average out to ~$5 a pop. They do have a nice variety of classy and cheeky cards. If you are a letterpress nerd who loves the feel of luxury cardstock, it will be delightful. I particularly appreciate that they carry quite a lot of cards and products by Emily McDowell, a graphic designer I much admire. (PS she makes the best "get well" cards, if you haven't encountered them before.)

I was impressed by the many options they presented for the invites, but also how well they coordinated our invites with our table number displays. They are expensive, but honestly they're worth it. Such wonderful work and extremely fast turn around times!

Enjoyed that they had a variety of not just paper, journals and pens but also locally sourced items like coffee, books and stickers. The shop was pretty crowded during my visit, probably a dozen people or so in the small space. This made me happy to see so many people shopping local. Eventually, after browsing most of the store, I decided to get a coffee bean pendant for my Traveler's Notebook. I've seen this same charm online for upwards of $20. Omoi's was $18. Definitely a value there! The service was excellent. While ringing me up one of the ladies running the register grabbed the Traveler's Notebook stamp (which you have to ask for) and let me do my thing. The stamp for the Traveler's Notebook is pretty cool, it features a soft pretzel and Water Ice.

Omoi was close to where we were coming to / heading to, so I bookmarked it and we managed to stop by before they closed. It was actually really poppin when we got there, despite the fact that it was about 30 minutes to closing time. I wasn't really on the market for anything, just wanted to browse. I ended up picking up some cute notepads for a friend and some washi tape for myself. I love that they sold matchbooks here! I am an avid matchbook collector, despite not smoking a day in my life. Staff were super nice and very friendly.

I wanted to get something very elegant and fancy and in that respect, the Paperia delivered. However, even though two women were behind the counter doing naught but talking with each other, I was not greeted with so much as a "hi" "let alone a warm "hello" or "good morning." As I went around the store, no one offered any assistance or asked if they could help me find something. Then, when I approached the counter with my card (a little embellished number that cost $6.50), still the sales associate, or maybe manager, just scanned my item and told me the total, STILL without greeting me! It's not like I'm asking for a hug and a kiss when I walk into a store, but you need to acknowledge my presence, as well as the other customers. I guess I should have just gone to Walgreen's or something, where at least the crappy, apathetic service is matched by low prices and convenience.

It screams 'quaint and dignified' on the outside the way many Chestnut Hill stores do. I come here to buy greeting cards for any occasion and also for their abundant supply of thank-you-note stationery. There are plenty of handmade, artistic cards for birthdays, anniversaries, and other occasions that you don't find at other card stores. Despite the store's staid exterior, they actually *do* carry your regular humorous "ha ha, you're getting old" birthday cards along with the unique ones. They've got a decent selection of birthday and blank cards but when it comes to more 'minor' holidays like Mothers Day or Fathers Day, the selection is just so-so. The back room is devoted to custom-made and thank-you-note paper and cards, of which there are many. They're not cheap but the products are definitely high quality. The ladies who work there are usually nice and helpful, assisting you in finding something. You don't find many non-chain, local card stores these days anymore so I like to support Paperia for a cozier, more pleasant card-shopping experience than going to your run-of-the-mill Hallmark.
