I've recently received the following phone message from my State Farm Insurance carrier, telling me…read moreState Farm was not going to renew my homeowners' policy. (Not my agent, his assistant.) "The reason for the non-renewal is just basic claim activity. I know there's two claims in 2022 neither of them out any amount, but we're looking at frequency here, so they still count as two homeowners' claims, you know within the past year or so. So, the underwriting team has decided to non-renew the homeowner's policy, you have until June 29th." I was a bit confused because this was the only two inquiries since 2017 when we started our policy coverage. I called the Washington Insurance Commission to help me understand what just happened. The representative was very helpful. She explained that when you have a question to see if something is covered, do not go to your Home Insurance first, ask the Insurance commission. Some insurance companies base renewability on activity not just claims and State Farm is one of them. The representative advised I might consider a brokerage to solve the issue I'm in right now. I went to Yelp, read the reviews and I called Westphal Insurance and I was not disappointed. Julie is great. I was so worried about not having coverage and she just started working on it immediately and I am so grateful to have found them. Julie gave me comprehensive solutions and educated us on the coverage options we do have. As scary as it got, we are all so grateful and relieved.

Two years ago a drunk driver totaled out car on the drive home from work. We have full coverage and car rental coverage so we knew we'd be fine. The other driver didn't have insurance so we had to pay a $100 deductible for that. A quick call to their 24/7 customer service that night made the process relatively easy. We got a rental and got checked out at a walk in the following morning, all covered by our insurance of course. A week later we were in a new car and just a few weeks after that, we got a check for our car totaled car. Because it was paid off, I was told the process went a lot quicker that it could have. For months, AmFam (corporate) followed up with us which I thought was nice. Do remember that in the state of WA, you don't have to close your claim until THREE years after. Just in case something comes up.

I moved back into town and added my car to her insurance policy temporarily along with a Jeep. In 2017, I myself asked for the both vehicles (Jeep & Taurus) to be removed. The Jeep was canceled, but for some reason the Taurus I owned was overlooked. Fine, they made a mistake and I verbally spoke to someone in this office to have it removed again. It was overlooked once again. In July of 2018 I donated the car. In September of 2018 I looked at my mom's policy to see that AGAIN, the Taurus was never removed. I sent Bruce a copy via email that the car was donated and released from my name and thought that would be the end of it. As of the beginning of January 2019, the Taurus was still on her policy, still charging her every month. They finally got it removed because I went into their office myself and complained again. I can understand people make mistakes, but after today with them telling me that she doesn't have any sort of credit coming back to her and them taking no recourse to rectify the situation monetarily as long as they have been charging her, I'm convinced that this is fraud on their part.
