They left the job unfinished. Never replaced the parts of my kitchen cabinets they removed. Even left the equipment. When I called them several times telling them they left their equipment. They seemed unconcerned until I told them I was going to take their equipment out to the street if they didn't get it soon. 2 months before they picked it up. read more

Terrible company.......I still haven't seen a bill, all they did was rip out my vanity and leave machines that did further damage! they were sent to our home by plumber request not mine and didn't even do a reasonably acceptable job! I wish I'd known we had mold, I would have called ServePro before DEC did anything.  Micheal H. their rep was kind however, he wasn't honest with me. He never mentioned the mold among many other issues he misled about. Read on so you don't get screwed over by this scam company. Many issues here......first and most importantly - there is still mold in our bathroom and they didn't seal the studs, no vacuum of dust at all, no plastic on doorways to prevent mold particles from escape into the house. They also burst a pipe - Micheal said they would pay - yet I had to pay for it! Their guy who removed the black drywall told me not to mention the mold to my insurance, which I did anyway and thankfully I took a picture before he ripped out the wall.  I still had to call ServePro and now must deal with ins on this issue secondary to DEC.  DEC left A HUGE MESS with dust and black flakes in it all in the bathroom. Our daughter develop a face rash one day after they left, our Maine Coon cat also developed skin issues, an asthma flare-up, and we all began coughing shortly after they left, including my 2 young children.  Days later after sealing the bathroom doors and wall ourselves and we're getting better. Secondly, their drying machine overheated our bathroom that night, which they had to come get next day due to EXTREME EXCESSIVE heat.  Our toilet bowl was still hot to the touch by that afternoon and into the night. Temperatures in that room were worse than a sauna, inducing immediate sweat when I opened the door and thus ruining $1,200+ of shampoo / conditioner products around my lovely bathtub display stand.  These were purchased in January, February and March all 2024 (I have the purchase emails); they weren't even used as I was still going thru the remainders of the slightly older, much larger bottles that were over half full. The new bottles were FULL and reached 93.5 degrees INSIDE THE BOTTLES causing separation of product ; these are Pureology and Fekkai purchased from them directly and must remain room temperatures. The next day I called Michael, sent pictures and video of temp readings and he said they would reimburse me, the office would be calling and they did come to replace the machines, but didn't finish the cleaning!!!!. Great I thought on my products!  I'll surrender these, repurchase, and be done with that part.  That's not what happened and my other concerns were simply abandoned and not addressed. A VERY RUDE woman from the office called the next day and said that if I cared so much for the products I shouldn't have left them in the bathroom, that the bottles were not in fact full (which they are as she could have seen in the video clip of the temp reading and the liquidity of the product separation) and they wouldn't reimburse me.  She also said that when WE shower it reaches well over 100 degrees in the bathroom and we ruined the products; straight up lie on her part.  WE don't use the shower and WE have two huge fans - keeping the room approx highest at 74-76 in mid AL summer - DEGREES with a hairdryer in use after bath. She didn't even ask about the lack of remediation, the lack of sealing the room off, and us coughing, rashes, and our furry family member!!!! I am unhappy on so many levels and will be filing with all the places I need to and BBB for resolution and reimbursement for my products as well as informing our insurance DEC didn't remediate the mold as expected. They should have handled this differently especially with so many complaints from me verbally and the texts to back it up.  Shame on DEC. read more

I have rated this a one only because there is no zero. Susan J's notion is a pattern. DEC's actual work, in my case, was all right. However, I ended up paying for it twice. This company came to my house uninvited. Obviously my plumber called them without my knowledge. I went from having a small leak under my kitchen sink to having my kitchen destroyed. DEC ripped out my cabinets, ripped up the floor, pulled out insulation, and anything else that they thought might be wet. As they were removing the floor they commented," oh the floor was not wet!" They destroyed 70-year-old cabinets that cannot be rebuilt. So now I'm having to have new cabinets, new countertops, and a new floor all because I had a leak under my kitchen sink. Someone named Anna continued to call me wanting their check for over $3000. When I was trying to reason with her, she hung up on me. I would not recommend this company! read more

We were referred to DEC, and based on the referral and the quick response time we were certain this would be a a great experience. We had water damage that resulted in mold. They quickly came out, the same day and started mold treatment. I was impressed. The second process was replacing the dry wall and replacing carpet, and lastly painting. Carpet installation was good. Now...The dry wall is patchy and uneven. The paint job is blotchy and inconsistent. The space was only a media room and a small half bath. The ceiling tile replacement was poorly done. This job should have taken a full week at most. The workers were nice and would call us down to look at work. The thing is, when paint is wet it's hard to access the work. I was almost rushed into signing the paper that stated I was satisfied with the work, though it wasn't complete. Guy came back out to replace the ceiling tile and it looks as if it was cut with house scissors. I contacted the office personnel and sent pictures of what my house looks like. I was offered to have them come back out to fix. I declined because at this point, we've lost time from work to ensure someone was in the home while they worked, and I'm not confident they will fix based on my standard. read more

I was referred by a friend and am still waiting to get the job done they tore my kitchen apart 2 weeks ago and my phone calls get ignored we called our insurance company and they said they were waiting on D E C when I called our contractor he tells me they are waiting on my insurance company so I'm being lied too by someone I would not recommend these guys too anyone. Beware of this company if they are doing any type of construction work to your home. The project manager I dealt with was non responsive and seems to tell you only what you want to hear to get you off the phone. He never followed up on any of the work being done. I had to call him to find out why things were not getting done and to complain on how the sub-contractors they use did low quality work and then he would send someone else to try and fix the problem and then the process would start over as every time a sub-contractor working for DEC came out it would cause another problem that would need to be fixed. I would not trust DEC Fire & Water Restoration to scoop my cat's litter box. read more

I had a plumber at my house on April 29th, who very quickly called DEC (as you will see others reviewers have shared a similar experience). DEC came out, and Tyler was the sales rep. Tyler was very kind, reassured me about different parts of the process, and made me feel less reluctant to go with the company my plumber so hurriedly called. While Tyler was here, he took photos of the damages so that we would have them to send to the insurance company. Between then and today (5/28/2020) the insurance company has still not received them. My case manager has reached out multiple times to inform me that they haven't received the photos, so I have called DEC several times to request the photos. Of course, with the pandemic and shutdowns, I understand that there may sometimes be delays, and I have tried to be understanding of that fact, and therefore patient with DEC; however, I had to call AGAIN today to request that the photos be sent to my insurance company. At this point, I was definitely frustrated, and undoubtedly my tone conveyed that. Anne told me that it normally takes 48 hrs for these tings to happen. I tried telling Ann that it had been well over 48 hrs, to which she told me I don't have to be Rude. I asked if I could speak to someone else and I was passed to Connie, who was kind, professional, and the only redeeming aspect of the experience thus far. Before I was passed to Connie, Anne didn't hesitate to let me know that "she was kind of [her] own boss dude, and you don't have to be so ugly." Now, unfortunately, I am having to take even more time out of my day to write this review (aside from the time already spent tracking down the photos). It is disappointing when you're going through an experience like this as a first time homebuyer, and it's more disappointing when the company you're working with doesn't treat you with professionalism and a sense of understanding. Anne called back today to let us know that she was sorry for acting out and that she wanted to start over. She has apparently been feeling a lot of pressure from having to homeschool her 12 yr old amid a pandemic, and is cared for him being a white boy in Birmingham. and when I told her that that I didn't think she understood she said "You're right, I don't understand because I'm not a homosexual." So, I responded with "Excuse me? Who brought up sexuality?" And she said "Well it's obvious from talking on the phone with you." This has, bar none, been THE biggest debacle as my time as home owner. This company seriously needs to be audited and claims need to be reviewed CAREFULLY by ALL home insurance companies, as I seriously believe this Company has FRAUD written all over them. Read the aforementioned reviews carefully before proceeding with DEC Construction. I won't go into details but everything the previous reviewers claim is 110% accurate re: attempting to get their hands on an insurance check before completing their end of the bargain; a "bargain" for which they GLADLY took on but POORLY completed. They couldn't even "hide" their coy/cutting corners means of operation; it's blatant and you, too, will see. Avoid DEC Construction at all costs and thank me later! read more

I cannot say this has been a great experience. To start with, we were assured that not only would we have to only pay the deductible and have no other out of pocket expenses and that they would deal directly with the insurance company for us. While some things were eventually fixed, it was almost like pulling teeth to get things done and over 4 months in, we still have repairs that need to be replaced. The crew who originally worked on our roof honestly worked their tails off. However, they put the wrong shingles on and this is still an ongoing battle. Also, we were informed that no work could be done on the house with our belongings in it. They started packing our house out while we were in shock after the tornado had hit our home. We were later informed that the storage of materials was not part of the original bid and they wanted $16,000.00 to return it. They did return our belongings, but have not yet commented about the bill. read more

The Company sent out men to my home that moved a shelf away from my basement window and unlocked it so that they could crawl back through it and do God knows what to me and my family...!!!!!!!! The police were called after the landscapers found the workers cell phone on the same window. Thank goodness I found out in time and had the house locked down with more security. read more

2015 update. DEC never completed the work. The owner contacted us through a DEC employee and wanted a completion and satisfaction document signed. We refused. We are keeping the documents showing DEC was willing to "waive" monies supposedly owed, in exchange for a satisfaction document. Again, we weren't satisfied, so we refused. read more

I used DEC for mitigation and restoration for water damage on two floors in my home. The mitigation team responded quickly. Adam and Ben (with his team) arrived the night the event occurred, and Ben stayed with me until the initial drying and demolition was complete. I decided, based on how effective they were with the mitigation, to use DEC for the restoration. Long story short, Kevin (my project manager) and his team completed the work replacing my floors and wall in four business days. Earlier than their initial estimate. Ben, Adam and Kevin all responded quickly to my questions. There were several steps where Kevin and Ben went above and beyond to correct other problems that they found, and did not charge me. They worked within the budget provided by my adjustor, and got my house back together faster than I expected. I would/have recommended them to friends. read more

Long story but they were used to reclaim a room after a pipe burst. They then talked us into using them on our insurance claim. They had us sign something that let them cash the insurance check without us cosigning it. The problem came because they did move out old furniture, rip up carpet and install new flooring, they also ripped out carpet on stairs, supplied carpet and installed carpet on the stairs but we bought and supplied the flooring for the actual room. However when the check came the cashed the entire check and said they deserved it. After spending time trying to figure out what was going on and a few heated conversations, I got in touch with someone who sounded nice and acted like she wanted to help, well that took almost two weeks and I finally got them to look at the claim and see that some of that money was ours because we supplied part of the flooring. Well they said that money was supposed to go back to the insurance company. I told them I do not care where the money goes it is not theirs. So after time they said they would redo the quote. Well the quote came in it was outrageous but they beat me into submisson and I said fine. All I want is what I paid for the flooring and the rest can go back to the insurance company. They did a great job but got way to much for it. The field personnel where amazing and I hate that they work for such an underhanded company. If you have to deal with them and they send a guy who keeps saying he is the PROJECT MANAGER and he knows exactly what to do and tries to make you feel stupid do yourself a favor and just send him packing (I was going to name him but I thought better of it. if you meet him you will know what I mean.). Good workers, good job, underhanded business techniques. Find a contractor that has good workers, does a good job and is honest, you will be much better off but if you have to use them make sure not to initial the piece of paper that allows them to cash insurance checks without you co signing. (that was my fault but you live and learn)! read more

We had a pipe burst in Jan of 2014. The pipes are in our ceilings. The ceiling then caved in for about half our house. DEC was recommended to us from a plumber (who we will also never use again, Standard Heating, AC, Plumbing). DEC assured us that everything would be taken care of in a timely manner. They were supposed to do a three day dry out and then the repairs. This was an agreement discussed by DEC and our insurance agent. The three day dry out took over 2 weeks because they never showed up when they were supposed to and would never call us back. Sometimes it took 3-4 days to get them to respond. All the while, my house was looking worse and worse. My husband did some of the work, like removing some flooring that had to be replaced. We finally got them to come get their fans and equipment after calling the main office and complaining three times. They immediately asked for payment, even though they never sent us or our insurance agent a statement. We had not even gotten the insurance money yet. When they did send a statement, it was charging us for stuff they hadn't done, including the work my husband did. So we had to send it back to them telling them what needed to be deducted. They said they had had some communication issues with their workers. No one had kept logs of when they were at our house or what they had done. Luckily, we did keep records. We finally got them taken care of and found a much better company to do the repairs (DKI Disaster Restoration). Do not use DEC. They do not respect your time or home. read more
