A pre-wedding reception took place on the back patio area, with the wedding on the lawn adjacent to this. The venue set up folding chairs on the green. The green is surrounded by stone paths and gardens filled with pretty flowers- and it was so peaceful to walk around and explore. My kids ran around, finding 'secret' spots. The bride and groom love the outdoors, so this spot made so much sense. The reception afterwards was in one of the main rooms, a beautiful room, which accommodated us all comfortably. After dinner, we were asked to move to the opposite room for a dj and dancing. I wish the staff had told us that we could return to the dining room- to just leave our belongings there. Or perhaps I misunderstood this. Our host eventually shared that they had rented the entire property for the night- that we could gather anywhere that we wanted. We ended up chilling in the dining room as well as another smaller room where there was coffee (also not communicated well).

With balconies along the perimeter and short walks under foliage among well pruned botanicals to please the eye, the Meridian House is a historical and aesthetic venue that presents a tasteful backdrop for a charitable or celebratory event. The grounds have room for a lawn game of croquet beneath glorious and majestic trees. They flank the verdant lawn with vintage styled couches and armchairs to allow attendees to lounge and relax while viewing the players. The pebble carpeted area just outside the main doors to the outdoor portion is quaintly located beneath more arboreal decoration. These trees are well groomed to allow for beautiful hanging lights and the natural foliage to provide a canopy beneath the stars or daytime sky. The indoors are just as appealing, but in my opinion, much more traditional and expected with the architecture, lighting, stairs, materials and decor. Appropriately decorated for this historical venue, it also provides a charming, romantic and/or sophisticated theme to your event. Fabulous venue!

We had so much fun here at Cherry Hill Park! We stopped in on a Saturday morning just before 9am,…read moredrawn in by the farmer's market going on in the parking lots next door. And then we just kept walking into this incredible park. As we walked through the gardens, there was an explosion of baby rabbits hopping about everywhere. My kids loved it, and I admired the beautiful gardens. I don't know if this is a wedding or events venue, but it should be because it's beautiful. The house and barns look like they belong here, as though someone might be living in them, except there's no driveway, there are public benches, and a few commemorative signs nearby. But at first I questioned whether we were in a public space or someone's yard. On the negative side, there were homeless looking guys sleeping on several of the benches. They woke up and disappeared not long after we arrived. The park is great. There are logs the kids can play on, in what appears to be a colonial reenactment area. My kiddos liked walking along the logs and jumping from one to another. There's two distinct play areas but both are great for toddlers and little tikes so I wasn't able to distinguish them very easily. The swings were a hot item when we were there, but there just aren't very many of them for a Saturday morning toddler rush hour. There is also a tiny house structure but it is slightly too large to be fun and too small to be interesting, no kids played in it except to inspect it. The sand volleyball court was also popular, as our kids joined others in excavating the volleyball service area. Luckily they didn't get very far by the time volleyball players arrived, though it wasn't for lack of effort. The park also has tennis courts and a basketball court, and there's a really nice nature trail along the edge of the park nearest the houses that back up to it. We walked through these flowers and gardens to find butterflies, bees and more rabbits. Also a nice feature, although there weren't very many picnic tables, there was one barbecue pit for people to build a coal fire. There was a very small pavilion area as well. I liked this park for the "nature in the city" feel. We were only a block away from fancy pants coffee shops, but it felt secluded and beautiful as light filtered through the enormous trees adorning the property. Other park visitors kept telling us about live music and imploring we check the schedule, but we aren't interested in that. This park is great with or without those concerts for me, and would be a really awesome spot to stop by anytime. I do not know if they have restrooms around, but with the restaurants and coffeeshops nearby, you should be okay. I think we spent about 5 hours here on our first visit and we didn't even really play in most of the park, so it's good for a long or short visit.

But can you bowl a perfect game at the legislature or the judiciary? NOPE. President Truman was a visionary for having this bowling alley installed. Truly ahead of his time, making sure pins could fall while democracy stands strong. Absolutely worth getting a job in the executive branch to sign up for a chance to bowl here. Oh, and there's other stuff in the building too, but bowling in the basement is what really drives good government.

My bar staff is preoccuppied with his phone to be engaging. The lunch wait staff is older and very inclusive, not hospitable nor engaging with even simple cordiality. One of the reasons, when not a regular in DC cliques, your presumed as an outsider. Food was a salad bar, that was fresh, clean, and had a great chickpea salad w feta and pickled onion. Cheat day was dessert- mini rasbery cheescake shot and a strawberry slice of roll cheesecake. Main course was potatoe gnocchi, fresh burrata,in red sauce. The National Press Club is a venerable DC institution, rich with journalistic, DC and American…read morehistory and located at the top of Columbia Square. I could spend a couple hours looking at the all the wall artifacts which includes many autographed photos of important past visitors. I loved seeing the piano that President Harry S Truman used to play. Until today I never knew Truman tickled the ivories. An integral part of the NPC is dining at the Reliable Source. My dining experience was absolutely fabulous. Service was exceptional and I liked how the head chef came out to check on us. On this particular day (Wednesday), a salad and prime rib buffet was available, as well as a regular menu. We opted for the buffet, which also came with an absolutely delicious cream of chicken soup. I loved all the flavorful salad condiment options, including pickled onions and multiple types of nuts. The prime rib was tender and delicious. They had cheesecake as a dessert. At the end of lunch, they served a most excellent coffee. I loved how they did it the British way, pouring cream in the cup before pouring in the coffee. Coffee is provided in a li'l coffee pot for each person, with plenty of coffee for refills. On special occasions, such as Chinese (Lunar) New Year, they have more elaborate meals. Frequently, the NPC has pressers where people in the news come and talk and answer questions from the audience. The day I was here, Robert Rand, author of The Menendez Murders and Anamaria Baralt, a cousin of the Menendez brothers came and spoke about the case. He is known as the father of Black history. The park is a triangular micro park that features a bronze sculpture of Dr. Woodson seated on a circular stone memorial. The front of the sculpture reads "Carter G. Woodson" and "Father of Black History". The back of the sculpture has the inscription "Truth comes to us from the past, then like, the like gold washed down from the mountains". The sculpture is the work of Ray Kaskey. The park has a few benches and is somewhat landscaped. Because the park is off a very busy road, it is not peaceful and has many distractions. The sculpture and park itself have seen better days and could use a little TLC. The sculpture could use a power wash, and the park could use a cleanup and grass reseeding.
