Saw this as my first official landmark/historical building in DC and I actually had to stop and stare at this building for a little bit since the first thought in my head was like, WOAH! That's a pretty old looking building and it's huge. Reminiscent of an old mansion you'd imagine from the colonial times; the building is still very grand and stately looking and you can tell that it's maintained and repaired very well. Everything is very reflective looking and no one is standing in front of this gated building at all. Not a lot of tourists since many people usually wander over to the White House instead.

Alright you can probably get a review of someone taking pictures of the building, but what about a review of the inside? What about the cafeteria food? Where you gonna see that review? Right here baby. Check yo self before you wreck yo self. So first question anyone is going to ask is: how the hell do you get in there? Well basically you need to know someone who works in the federal government, preferably in the Executive branch. I leave it to you to do this part. You'll need to go through security as usual. Once inside what can you do? Well there is a cafeteria there. They have the typical assortment of sandwiches, salads, burgers, etc. I ordered the Smoked Jack sandwich on whole wheat. It had bacon, avocado, cheese, and a bunch of other crap. Actually it was pretty tasty for cafeteria food. No complaints. What else can you do in this buckwild giant ass office building near the White House? Go bowling son! That's right, the White House bowling alley is located in the basement of this beast. You'll walk down a hall full of hanging exposed pipes. It's real power plant stuff down there. And then boom! You're in the Harry Truman bowling alley, baby. I hope you know how to score this mad game because it doesn't have those automatic machines. It's got two lanes and the absolutely swankiest bowling shoes you have ever seen. They are no joke. I want a pair just to wear out, they are that baller. After you're done, you can leave the compound by using the entrance that faces Lafayette Park. If there are tourists there they will be amazed at you leaving the White House! You may feel superior at this time.

Yes, Ariana Grande is a good answer, but I was looking for the Executive Office on 17th St! A long time ago, the love of my life used to say that this building was the highlight of her trips to DC, and I can see why. I remember walking with her in the pouring rain next to it, and taking pictures of her exposing herself in front of it. Times change... But this building never did. It's glorious and resplendent. It reminds me of something in France, but better kept, perhaps. It looks palatial. If the White House is a little underwhelming then this executive office is completely awe-inspiring. It's level with the Capitol as my favourite building in the DC area, and is the easiest 5-star rating I've given since my Cousin Daniel got drunk and showed me the ropes.

So we decided to take pictures in front of the Executive Office of the President where the FRONT of this architecture was much more impressive than the BACK of the White House on Pennsylvania Ave. Still a great experience to roam DC and take in the history and political side of the US. (You don't get much of that or appreciate it as much coming from the west coast. Hence, the ignorance of the FRONT vs the BACK of the WHITE HOUSE. =X)

Hey yall, Stop…read moresecurity all around the premises lol then I noticed a sign, people who have an appointment get inside the gates, yes gates surrounding the White House now from so far away! They not playing these days! Can't trust people. People ruined the experience of going up on the White House doors for everyone. Well at least that's what I assumed about the gates being there, not just from construction. I've seen some people months ago taking pics at the actual White House inside so idk maybe it's invite only, but they do have a people's White House nearby and I'm curious to check that out! Anyways lots of tourist here and tours stopping by and I felt good stopping by paying my respects and it's nice to imagine the president living here and or people staying at the top bouie hotels all around the areas! Got a feel for the area and the people which were a lot of white women today running around the areas! I was surprised at how many white people were actually in this very area! It's just a color not a race thing for me but none the less very interesting place to visit!

This is a once a year event for only two days that is free to the public that allowed us to get an up close look at the White House Gardens /grounds and the outside of the White House to include a chance to see the presidential limousine "the beast". The grounds were absolutely beautiful and it was a real treat, possibly once in a lifetime, to be so close to the White House. NICE!!! As this trip was with our grandkids it gave us a great deal of satisfaction of being able to share such a memorable and lifelong memory with them. it is truly nice to see times like this when our government offers up such unique viewing opportunities to the general public.

I finally visited with friends and kids after many years of living in DC. I got timed tickets in advance online. The National Park Service employees were friendly and helpful. People should know there are no restrooms in the monument, but supposedly there are some in the Washington Monument Lodge close by. You take the elevator to the top, see the sights, then descend one level where there are educational exhibits and the elevator back down. I was pleased that level wasn't used to try to sell merchandise or anything and just kept educational.

I found the structure itself surprisingly simple, but that simplicity is what makes it feel so massive and recognizable against the skyline. The huge open lawn surrounding it gives the area a spacious feeling, and from almost every angle I could see other major landmarks lined up around it, especially the Lincoln Memorial and the Capitol in the distance. Even with large crowds moving through the area, the space never felt too compressed because everything around the monument is so wide open. Going up inside the monument completely changed my perspective. The elevator ride was short and smooth, and once I reached the top, the observation windows gave me a panoramic view over all of Washington. Looking down at the Reflecting Pool, the National Mall, and the rows of museums made the city layout feel incredibly intentional. I visited around sunset, and the views became even more dramatic once the monuments and streets started lighting up across the city. The atmosphere around the monument constantly shifted throughout my visit. In the morning there were runners and quieter crowds walking through the grass, while later in the afternoon the area filled with tourists, school groups, and people sitting around the lawn. Even with the steady activity, the monument still managed to feel calm because of how open everything is around it. Seasonal festivals and events nearby also made the space feel active without taking attention away from the monument itself.
