Very disappointed in the lack of response from this company. Someone came to give an estimate on a patio project for my home 2 weeks ago, and no follow-up has occurred. I've even called the front desk several times to ask for the estimate and no success. Very unprofessional. Update: the estimator replied (conveniently after I posted this!) and said they sent an email but it must have gone to the wrong address and that they have to pass on my project because they're too busy with larger projects. Very pleased with our new balcony and staircase from Deck Masters! Our original staircase and deck was only intended for entry to the second floor ADU and was falling apart. They worked with us to design a new balcony and staircase that would maximize the space (and the sunlight!) and the end result is absolutely beautiful. The project took a little longer than expected due to several unfortunate staffing illnesses/injuries, but I was very impressed with how the project manager rolled up his sleeves, stepped in and ensured the job got done, and done right, as quickly as possible. They could have easily delayed our project, but they made it happen and we were grateful. Our new Trex deck is solid and is exactly what we had hoped for! I am so unhappy with this business and so glad I did not do business with them. June 30th I called and asked for an estimate on resurfacing my deck. I set the appointment for today July 8th at 11:30 (it was the earliest I could get one) While becoming unsettled that they hadn't arrived at 12:15 I checked and saw a text message on my phone from 9:20 AM telling me to cancel my 1:30 appointment because they wouldn't strip and resurface a deck painted with Behr (something I am unhappy with and trying to fix) My anger is that 1. They knew this 9 days ago did not tell me until 2 hrs before my appointment 2. They didn't call they texted 3. They even got the time wrong telling me to cancel a 1:30 appointment that was actually set up for 11:30. I guess I should be happy I dodged a bullet. I guess the best I can say is that the job is done and the railing is secure. However for the price I paid I expected MUCH better craftsmanship and customer service. Although, initially he did come back twice to correct his poor workmanship ie: the plastic covering the spindles on the steps was not angled so they weren't secured (on multiple rungs). His answer was "I guess I wasn't paying enough attention", which at that point sent up a red flag. He NEVER came back to replace the part of the railing where the mitre cut was so off that I could have done better and the first thing I see when I walk out on my deck . See pictures below! I also want to add, that the ONLY time the owner of the company (who was my contact person) answered his phone was when he wanted my final payment. Otherwise, I had to leave a message and and wait a minimum of 3 days for return call. When the owner came out to see the work and showed him the big chip in my newly stained steps his answer was "things happen ". Never offering to fix it. The job was started on September 6th, "completed" only a few days later. Have been waiting since the beginning of October for the rest of the issues to be resolved and now it's the beginning of November. I fOnce again....for the amount of money I paid I expected much better craftsmanship ship and customer service. read more

We recently hired Chris and his team at Deck Masters to build a 400 sf deck and a new picket fence with an arbor. We chose cedar for the fence, arbor and deck railings and Timbertech composite for the decking material. The finished product looks great and the quality of the workmanship exceeded our high expectations. We originally received three bids for this work. One, from the largest deck company in the area, was about $2K higher than the Deck Masters bid. The second bid was the same price as Deck Masters, but the guy they sent out was here for 5 minutes and didn't write anything down. Chris was very thorough and he stayed long enough to answer my questions. He was also patient enough to answer a lot of follow-up questions by email. The construction process lasted about 6 days and the crew kept the site tidy and cleaned up the yard when they were done. The deck is extremely solid and looks like it will last decades. Deck Masters took care of all the permits/city inspections. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to family and friends. read more

He was very flexible as the plan changed about whether or not to demo our neighbor's existing fence, and he left the work area clean and safe at the end of each day. We had a miscommunication about the height of the gate, and when I mentioned to him that it wasn't as I had expected, he wasn't rude or defensive--he offered to redo the gate for the cost of materials only, and was totally understanding and courteous about the whole thing. I had two really good experiences with Deck Masters this summer. First, they replaced a wobbly, poorly designed deck with one that is not only extremely functional but also really nice looking. Chris (the owner) and Matt (the project manager) worked closely with me to make sure the design worked with the yard and the house. The workers were incredibly hard working and very detail oriented. The finished result is better than I would have imagined. My only regret was that I didn't start the project earlier in the year so I could have enjoyed it more during the good weather. (There's always next year.) The second project was a replacement of a very rickety fence between my yard and one of my neighbor's yards. Again, the Deck Masters folks worked closely with me to make sure that the materials and the design matched a couple of existing sections of fence that a different neighbor had put up between his property and mine. The new fence and the existing section are virtually indistinguishable from each other. These two improvements have turned my back yard into an entirely new place. read more

I was super excited to use Deck Master's. We received the quote for a deck in May this year but needed to put that project on hold. I recently called Deck Master's for a quote on fence repair. I let Deck Master's know that it did not need to be fixed right away. The fence repair could wait until October/November. However, I never received a call back or email. After 2 weeks I called again. The receptionist was somewhat nice; she had all my information from my previous call and told me they were too busy to even call me about the fence repair. I let her know that I understand the project is not big money but it could wait until they were slower. That was a week ago and still has not heard from anyone. Deck Masters came right away and gave us a bid for redoing our deck using Trex materials for the deck flooring and a new wood railing. They gave us an option to wait until winter to have the work done and receive a discount, which we took them up on. The quality of workmanship is excellent. The deck stairs are so solid that it literally feels like we are walking on a foundation of cement when we use them. The deck railing was a custom design, and they did exactly what we asked, and the quality of the wood is exceptional. The crew had very respectful behaviors, which was really nice, because sometimes that can be a problem with contractors and/or crews. We will hire Deck Masters again if we have any deck or fence needs in the future, and we will definitely recommend them to family and friends. If there was something I HAD to "complain" about, it would be that they ran a bit over on their estimated time of completion. It was supposed to have been done in a week, but went a couple days over. Chris (owner) came up with a method of replacing the large beams, without destroying all the good wood that was already working well. His crew was very hard-working and comfortable to be around. We contacted them in June about installing a new deck. We got multiple bids and while they were not the least expensive bid, nor the most expensive, the salesperson they sent out was the most knowledgeable and professional of all the bids, so we chose their services. Also, we found out that most of the contracting firms that install decks do not prestain the wood, whereas Deckmaster does. We decided to have them install an Ipe deck with aluminum railing because we didn't want to have to do any maintenance and that seemed the best option. We paid 50% down and were told the additional 50% would be due when the work was completed, which was scheduled for August 1st. FYI, if you plan to pay Deckmasters by credit card, you have to go through Pay Pal, which charges an additional 3%. . August 1st came around and we were told that there was a fire at the place that sands and stains the wood, so our project was put off for a few weeks while they made repairs, but when we complained, they did give us a small credit to make up for the wait. We had some issues come up that had to do with our property that had not been factored into the original bid, but the project manager was awesome to work with and made great suggestions as to how to build something that would work and do what we needed. During the course of construction, we found out that some of our expectations were unrealistic (for instance, they now build decks with a gap in between each board and we hadn't known that, so don't expect the deck boards to sit next to each other without a gap - they won't). Also, if you get Ipe and it is stained, the stain scrapes off easily (although the wood doesn't scratch easily, it looks scratched because the stain will scratch). If we had known that, we would have chosen a natural stain, rather than the mahogany that we chose, but it was our decision. Bottom line, these folks were very professional, they did a good job, and they were very easy to work with, handling our questions and complaints with aplomb, and making accommodations for us whenever possible. Our deck looks great, was built properly (from what we can see), and we would definitely recommend this business and use them in future, if we needed that service. read more

Chris was easy to work with, listened to what we were looking for and made great recommendations. The work was done on schedule and the cost as quoted. The estimator Nick was professional and knowledgeable. But the price was more than what I wanted to spend, even though it was in the mid range of bids I received. I picked the lowest priced contractor who came across very nice and personable. It was a big mistake! By early February, my deck wasn't even started even though it was supposed to be done. I hired Deck Masters to build a porch railing and fence/pergola for my home. All of my dealings with Chris were great and thorough--not at all my experience with contractors in the past--and the price was incredibly good. Chris predicted the job would take one to two days, but it ended up being only one. His team of 4-5 guys powered through the job, and while I was not home during most of the hours they were on site, my neighbors were, and reported that they were very impressed with how quickly, efficiently, and seamlessly the work was done. I had some repair work on my new house. These guys came out and did an estimate to see what was needed. I had a couple other estimates that told me the whole deck needed replacing. I didn't want to go that route. These guys said they'd be happy to make the repairs and not have to replace the whole thing, but warned me the problems would happen again in a few years.
