It also has Books-A-Million, which has decent coffee and plenty of books and magazines. It's really the only place in Asheboro aside from the library with that many books. Those are about all the good things I can say about the mall these days. Randolph Mall would be a Great Place for a zombie movie, because frankly, there's nobody in it. Unfortunately, this place seems to be going out of business fast. I asked one shop owner after noticing all the closed stores and he said he was moving soon too because the mall not only refuses to lower his rent, but brings less and less clientele in every month or so. The Book Store, Department Stores, Cinema, and Chick-fil-A are really the only things Randolph Mall has anymore. I walked through it last week and it was just one big vacuity. Very depressing. The barista at the bookstore even seemed overwhelmed with 2 or 3 customers in line, so I just wondered off to scan titles. I remember when I was a kid and going to this mall was a real outing. On Halloween, the pet store, Family Pets', gave out free goldfish, and in Boy Scout's we'd race our Pinewood Derby cars in the food court. We would get phone calls weekly for the jewelry store there because it was one digit off of my parent's ground line. Now even that place is out of business. It's sad to see a dying Asheboro landmark, but I guess even the pyramids at Giza have graffiti. I hope they can get their act together and evolve with the times. Asheboro is a good-sized city, it is in a good location and you have plenty of empty stores- now the only thing you have to do is sell the retail spaces and pull people in.

Week before last they had a local elementary school in here decorating a huge tree for the holidays, Thanksgiving Day people were actually lined up around the building, and weekends are as busy as any mall I've been to. It looks like they've been renovating and some store owners mentioned upcoming re-locations so the mall can update their space also. All in all I think they are doing a fairly good job of bringing an older mall up to date. I usually park nearby, peruse the garage sale items, then go on a stroll around the whole shopping center. While I do like Whole Foods and will go there for certain specialty items, I tend to spend a little less at the gigantic Harris Teeter. There's a huge selection of clothing stores, you can get a legit (if pricey) massage at Hand and Stone, get your haircut, see a movie, and grab a great dinner from a wide range of restaurant options. This might be the most upscale shopping center in town.

It went downhill and beginning in the 2000s, we went to Friendly Center instead. This has been a general trend in America where people have shifted from going to traditional indoor malls to outdoor malls, some integrated with mixed-use developments and/or repurposed sites. Funny thing is Friendly Center has been around since 1957 and Four Seasons 1974. Both have changed over the years, for better or for worse. I came here multiple times with friends and family in 2008 and 2009. With my friends, we'd go to stores like REI, Great Outdoor Provision Co, and Barnes & Noble. It was around these years that I picked up a MacBook for my mom from the Apple Store. She returned several times for One to One trainings on how to use various Apple devices. Since 2018, I've been going to Friendly Center for Schiffman's Jewelers, for the most part. That's because I got my wife's engagement ring and wedding band from Schiffman's and have returned for inspections and cleanings. We returned just a few weeks ago to see Frances, who just celebrated 45 years at Schiffman's. Last month, I accompanied my wife and sister to Sephora and Anthropologie. Other brands that were or still are of interest to me at Friendly Center include Brooks Brothers and lululemon. There are also a Whole Foods Market and Williams-Sonoma. Friendly Center was sort of patchworked together over the years, so the design and routing aren't ideal and getting around can be confusing. It would be nice if there were maps of the property on-site, but we didn't see any during our recent visit. Also, at the time of writing this review, the map on their website is down. Pointe South Village is a perfectly adequate strip mall along US-220 (Business) in Randleman. Ther eis also a nail salon, laundrette, and a pizza place. The center is in good condition and the parking lot is smooth.
