She had been a parishioner at Immaculate Heart of Mary in St Paul, which merged with St Luke's and is now known as St Thomas More for close to 70 years. She attended mass every week, and even when times were incredibly tight, she gave an offering. When my family approached Father Weiss about having her funeral service there this week, we were abruptly refused. Father Weiss said they could just not accommodate us this week since some of the staff was unavailable. He was very rude and did not offer an alternative or even his sympathy. This is not how any grieving family should be treated, and especially not the family of a long time parishioner and dedicated catholic like my Gramma. We are simply disgusted.

This church/parish/school has been here for decades and anchors the neighborhood. They have a well-developed ministry to the area and broadcast everything through their parish newsletters and on their website (http://www.holy-spirit.org/church-home). Delightful mission, engaging priests, and sizable number of parishioners - this is a hit in the neighborhood and was a wonderful respite for us. Try it some weekend.

A must see for out-of-town visitors as this is the cathedral from which the city got its name; it's also the third largest Catholic cathedral in the nation. If you're an out of town tourist staying in the downtown area, the 21 bus will take you right to it. It is open to the public and the inside is beautiful and pristine. I was there late morning on May 8, 2025 and around 11:10am, ALL the church bells started chiming! It was a wonderful feeling inside listening to the beautiful bells! I later learned that it was the moment the new pope was elected. A small miracle, and a wonderful blessing, I would say. May all your wishes and prayers come true.

I went here for the first time yesterday in order to hear a discussion about agnosticism. I'd seen…read morean ad in the recent Highland Villager newspaper and was very curious since I'm exploring and examining my own views and beliefs at this time. Although I arrived a few minutes late, I was warmly greeted by someone at the door who directed me into the room where others were already gathered. I was a quiet observer to their practices. They had a most interesting and well spoken guest speaker presenting the topic who responded to some questions and comments from those in the small audience (there may have been about 20-25 people there). They offered coffee and some snacks. During the talk, people seemed quite comfortable getting up and walking to the rear of the room to refill their cup, or go to the restroom. People seemed to be attentive to and engaged with the speaker and they offered sincere and intelligent comments and questions at the end of the presentation. Seemed like these people were really paying attention. I really appreciate that. From their website I learned that they offer a guest speaker and a new topic of discussion each week. They also take a summer break from their weekly gatherings.

It is an incredibly welcoming community with a mission to provide space for free thought and exploration of spiritual ideas. The services are a perfect blend of thought provoking speakers, community discussion, meditation, and music. I was surprised and pleased by the group discussion aspect of the simple services where the audience is encouraged to talk about their thoughts and feelings with the group right after the speaker talks in the middle of the service. An unbelievable experience that was exactly what I was looking for in UU church.
