You need to stop in and have lunch! Friendly local hospitality newly renovated motel if you're looking for a place to crash for the night!!! This establishment is one of the best establishments on the mountain. The staff is very friendly and willing to talk to you about anything they'll have a conversations with you. You do have to remember you are on the mountain so don't expect it's like things in Denver. Would recommend the whiskey bacon burger! It's a burger with Swiss cheese and caramelized onions and bacon that have been mixed into a whiskey sauce! Excellent burgers. Travis and Steff have done very well with this place! read more

Newly opened, I went with my Mother in Law who was pleased to see this local lodge back opened. Our party was 3 adults and 2 children for an afternoon lunch. Service was excellent. Decor is lodge style with heavy furniture. My wife had the steak sandwich with Chimi churri sauce. Served on a soft roll with fries. The meat was a bit tough and had not been seasoned well. Pretty heavy on the grease, and light on the Chimi churri. I had the Dearhaven Burger, which was thick, and well flavored. A dijon.mayo sauce was good and not overpowering. Swiss cheese, mushrooms and onions. Very light on the mushrooms as I couldn't find them until I pulled back the cheese a bit. Kids burgers were big and good. Probably could have shared one kids burger between my 4 and 6 year old. The fries were EXCELLENT. Looks as though they are using the Chimi Churri on the fries...it worked well. Don't let the 3 stars make you discount the place. I will be back as I like local joints and the food was good for the area. I stopped in here for a beer and a lunch while bicycling from the cool Powder Pass down into the blast furnace of Ten Sleep Canyon. This was a nice departure from the catered food I was having in the evenings on my bicycle tour. I had a tasty grilled chicken sandwich and some crispy fries that really hit the spot. Everything had good flavors... along with a bottle of Moose Drool. :-) This is an off-the-beaten-path place... and you'll fly right by it going down the mountain. First, you are NOT in a big city, so lose all your expectations of "promptness," cuz you're up on the mountain, with the closest town miles away and it has 204 people. It happens when it freakin' happens man!! Good basic food. Loved their chicken sandwich and beer. Good fries and poppers. I loved chatting with the staff, so chill. The food is fine and the "climber" below doesn't get out much!! . Just be chill, you're up in the mountains of Wyoming, not in Denver. read more

Climbers beware. Got terrible service from this establishment on multiple occasions, as well as other climbers I spoke with who passed through here. It was well noted that the wait staff and cashier treated their typical customers with friendliness and responsiveness, while ignoring (and overcharging!) customers who didn't fall into that description. Stay away from here is my advice. read more

My family had a small reunion here. There were 9 adults, 4, children, and 2 dogs in our group. We spent two nights in the rustic cabins. We had a great time! The staff was wonderful, cabins were clean, and a great location for lake and creek fishing. We will be going back soon! read more

This place was unbelievably bad. The "rustic" lodge we were in didn't have a key to the door, the bed was unmade from the last "guests", there was trash in the room, and the communal bathroom was completely disgusting. Find somewhere else to stay, even if it's in a tent or on the ground. For what we paid, we were disappointed. read more

Stayed 2 nights at Deer Haven in the new hotel rooms. Very nice rooms, great food and very friendly staff that made us feel as home.

My husband and I ate at Deer Haven during hunting season. The lodge was very clean and well run. Our waitress, I think she said her name was Diane, was very helpful and explained the dinner choices. The chef, Jimmy, did an excellent job with our food. I had the pulled pork and it was wonderful. My husband had the prime rib and it was absolutely the best he has ever had!! My wiffe and I stayed for a weekend of snowmobiling. Stayed in the newly remodeled motel, we were both impressed with the quality workmanship in the remodeling, Rooms were very nice, but no tv. We enjoyed the lodge atmosphere , it is a neat old place, with a cozy woodstove in the dining room and a large old fireplace in the bar room where you can also eat. It has an oold fashned western atmosphere with some very nice taxidermy on the walls and unique tables and chairs. All of the staff includiing the owner {who is put a huge effort into the bussiness} were very friendy and helpful. The menu is a bit short, but everthing on it is homemade and quite tasty, the soups are good, ham and potato is killer. They have a fleet of late model Yamaha nitro and phazers to rent, which we did, very nice sleds, lots of trails and some nice hills to climb, once the snow firms up a bit, too keep you off the rocks. I've been to Deer Haven three times across the past five years. I've camped in the campground, eaten at their restaurant, and stayed in their cabins. Deer Haven has made constant improvements over the years. The cabins are clean with a rustic feel. The restaurant has good American style food, good beer, and a great atmosphere. The shower house for the campground could be better but considering most people are using it after a dusty day of UTV/ATVing it's hard to complain, and it's better than a USFS campground which has no shower at all. I noticed a review referencing climbers. My only experience with climbers in the campground/restaurant was an occasion where one came by, bought nothing and used the wifi for free... I'm a climber, I understand the life style. It's an almost nonexistent part of their clientele. That being said I've never seen one mistreated there, and everything has a listed price in the store, on the menu, on the drink list so if one was overcharged they are probably too poor at math to actually realize they were overcharged in the first place. read more
