We had a blast at the Deer Ranch. It's a great rainy/overcast day activity. Admission to see the deer was $6/person and I think that's a steal. You can buy treats to feed the deer (grain, apples, or carrots) for $1/cup. Also a steal. The deer are highly socialized and friendly. Even the bucks will approach you which is great to see their growing racks. The staff are great conservationists and deeply care about the deer. We got to bottle feed the fawns which they do 3x/day. There are some comments about why the fawns are kept separate. If you ask the staff, they will say it's because it's necessary to socialize the fawns early in life. read more

Overall, I'm glad we stopped. It was a great way to see the deer up close and even feed them! The babies were tiny and sweet. You need to purchase food at the front counter. The employees were friendly. You could easily give away all the food in the front sections as the deer there quickly approached the fence. Save some for the back, though. The bucks may approach too. They were more skittish, though. We had to really look for them in the tall brush. We didn't like how the young deer were separated from the rest and the habitat looked scarce. It also looked like most of them could use more entertaining areas. read more

Getting to feed the deer was a really neat experience! It was fun for the kids being able to feed the deer and then trying to spot the ones in the forest and working to get their attention. There is a little gift shop where you pay for admission and food to feed the deer if you'd like. We got carrots and corn. It was a great experience overall. My only complaint would be about the middle aged woman who seemed to have taken over for the older woman working the register. My 10 year old wanted to purchase something with his own money and as it took a bit for him/us to count the bills and coins (with a hard-to-get-into small coin pouch), she seemed annoyed. After the sale, I said, "thank you", she said nothing back and went to help the next customer. Not customer friendly and I didn't feel like she appreciated our business. My wife and I looked forward to this stop on our honeymoon up north. Inside we were excited to be greeted by a cute little fawn in the Fawn Barn. These deer were very friendly and definitely receive more than fair treatment. Was happy to support a small business that has been in operation for 70 years! They must know a thing or two about this! The gift shop was filled with cute little gifts and beautiful ornaments. We both had a very memorable time being deer lovers. Yes, go here. It doesn't matter if you have kids. My toddler loved it but so did her father and I! Admission is cheap and you can spend as much time as you want wondering around. We bought carrots for $1 to feed the older deer. We didn't need to do that b/c they weren't interested so we dumped them close to a few of them before leaving so they could nosh @ their leisure. The staff inside tells you to NOT feed the babies & there is a sign posted in their habitat BUT there were several derelicts that were still doing it . Don't be an idiot. Absolutely love this ranch!! Such a wonderful experience with these adorable and sweet deer close up! Also the owners were so kind and polite to communicate with! We lucked out and got to feed the fawns because they weren't bottle feeding anymore. But usually you cannot feed the fawns. I also got two of the bucks to walk over to me and eat some of the corn/nuts they gave. The fawns didn't like the corn/nuts but loved the carrots and apples. Highly recommend. advertising showed photos of baby fawns being bottle fed. We called the day before and we're told if we came at 2:30 the next day we could feed the fawns. When we arrived they said there was only one but she specifically said we could take turns. We paid our money and waited. A boy came and bottle fed the fawn in front of us. the bottle was almost gone and I asked if we could hve a turn. he said you don't pay to feed the fawns. My husband, two kids, and myself really enjoyed this place! It was well maintained and the deer look very well taken care of! My kids were especially fond of the fawns and the three albino deer. We took a trip to Mackinac Island a few years ago and the Deer Ranch was my favorite part of the trip! They have lots of Whitetail deer and fawns that you can take pictures of as you walk along their trails. They also have White Whitetails and some albinos. It was so neat to see the deer up close! You can purchase a stack of crackers to feed them! It's just 5 minutes from the bridge! It'd be a great place to bring kids. read more

A deer ranch? Ok! We were on a road trip and found the brochure so we thought we would check it out. Five bucks gets you in the area with the deer and for a buck you can buy carrots or saltines to feed them. Um, yes, please!! I opted for the carrots and off we went. They are all fenced in, but with areas large enough to get their heads out to get the food. That may sound sad, but the deer actually live way longer here than they would in the wild. Some seemed pretty lethargic, especially the albino ones. Yes, you read that right! It was so cool to pet the deer and have them eating right out of your hand. From the pictures on the website and the great reviews I thought this would be a few deer in spacious, grassy enclosures. No. It's tons of deer, packed into small fenced in areas with no grass - just rocks and mud. To top it off - you feed them saltines - I highly doubt saltines are part of a healthy diet for deer. I love deer. This place was pretty cool and not too bad on the price. Advertised as having trails, but it is more like large fenced off areas. There are about 4 sections, 5 including the fawn stable. Animals seemed healthy, the grounds were clean and maintained. It was really cool to be so close to so many of my favorite woodsy animal. Gift shop also had some unique and reasonably priced souvenirs. I would recommend this to anyone, families with kids especially. As a side note, I don't like the circus or those terrible Wildlife Safari things you drive through. I feel horrible for the animals. The deer ranch is not like that at all. Actually a lot of fun. Only 5 dollars but do also buy the apple or carrots to feed the deer. The deer in the front pens are fed often do not interested but if you go to the back pens they will come to eat and be petted. Pens are very wooded do not easy up see but they are there.
