(Double tax was her specific use of words). She also told me since I started my taxes with them I couldn't go anywhere else. Both of those statements were lies. The correct answers are: 1. The portion of tax for Maryland is calculated, say it's 7%. The D.C. tax is calculated, let's say its 10%. I would only be responsible for paying D.C. tax at a 10% rate. If Maryland was 10% and D.C. was 7%, I would owe 7% taxes to D.C. and then 3% taxes to Maryland. There is no double taxation. 2. It does not matter where or how I started my taxes. If my taxes did not get completed AND E-filed/mailed from that location, then I'm free to go elsewhere. That year and every year after I chose to go somewhere else, and if necessary, I would even go out of my way to avoid using Jackson Hewitt.

Based on the information on her own website, she does not appear to have any formal qualifications in resume writing or career coaching. Her primary credential seems to be that she personally received offers from jobs she applied to and then decided to start writing resumes for other people. The process itself was incredibly disappointing. I spent a significant amount of time filling out detailed forms describing my experience and accomplishments, only to find that much of what I wrote was copied almost verbatim into my resume. There was very little added value or strategic thinking. I could have done that myself. The LinkedIn "optimization" was equally poor. It consisted of little more than rewriting the summary section. There was no discussion of headlines, skills, services, keywords, languages, profile structure, or how recruiters actually search for candidates. It felt like there was no understanding of LinkedIn as a recruiting tool. The most frustrating part was the lack of collaboration. When I asked why certain wording had been chosen and requested a different format, instead of explaining the strategy or discussing alternatives, I was met with, "Why did you hire me then?" That response alone told me everything I needed to know about the level of professionalism I was dealing with. Charging $1,500 for this service is, in my opinion, completely unjustifiable. I expected expertise, thoughtful guidance, and a resume that reflected strategy and experience. Instead, I received a lightly edited version of my own words with little explanation and poor communication throughout the process. This was the biggest waste of money I've ever made and one of the worst service experiences I've had. I cannot recommend this service to anyone.

They were completely unprepared for two online meetings. We had to reschedule the meeting because they were not prepared for the first. They were unprepared for the second meeting as well. They utilize an online portal system that they are unable to answer questions about or provide guidance on. One of the benefits was to be able to pay taxes through that portal but on tax day they said nope can't use it, then 2 weeks after tax day they asked why we didn't use it. We were given false information about our 2026 taxes and it took over 3 weeks to sort it out despite our best attempts to have it sorted prior to tax day. I do not recommend Devine and Associates. They promise service and deliver stress.
